Browns Studs and Duds: Who shined brightest in the win against the Jaguars?

The Cleveland Browns found help among their reinforcements to defeat the Jaguars, led by David Njoku and Martin Emerson Jr.

The Cleveland Browns beat the Jacksonville Jaguars in a messy fistfight. Neither team could hold onto the ball. However, the Browns fought through their mistakes as they clinched a gritty win as they were led by tight end David Njoku and cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. The Browns game felt more like an execution as they lost multiple starters. Credit to the team: the backups filled their roles without losing a beat.

Defensive backs Ronnie Hickman, Cameron Mitchell, and D’Anthony Bell did a great job of filling in for Juan Thornhill, Grant Delpit, and Denzel Ward. Starting fullback Nick Harris did an outstanding job stepping in for Ethan Pocic. Harris looked better as a pulling lineman than as a fullback. The Browns have suffered various injuries this season, but the replacements have been ready to play. Sunday showed that struggle happened once again.

The Browns starters had great games with uncharacteristic mistakes. Amari Cooper fumbled the ball after a heroic effort by a defender. Joe Flacco threw a horrible interception that killed a Browns’ drive. Both players were able to steady their performance and help the team secure the win.

Here are the Studs and Duds in the Browns’ victory against the Jaguars.

Browns Studs and Duds: Who showed up and disappeared in loss vs. Rams?

A look at the five most impactful people in the Cleveland Browns loss to the Los Angeles Rams in week 13 of the NFL season.

The Cleveland Browns return to the city without a win from their two weeks out west, wrapping up the trip against the Los Angeles Rams. The team comes back injured and badly bruised. The injuries became insurmountable as they finished the remaining Browns’ stars: Myles Garrett, Denzel Ward, and Amari Cooper. The team returns home to lick their wounds as they prepare for the Jaguars and a battle for wildcard positioning. Wide receiver Elijah Moore had his best game as a Brown, and guard Wyatt Teller continues to stack weeks.

The Browns were competitive against a well-coached Rams team for the first three quarters. The Browns stuck to their roots and showed an effective play-action passing attack off the backs of an inefficient run game. The Browns were unable to generate much offense outside of those staple concepts.

Joe Flacco did an admirable job quarterbacking the Browns after signing with the team’s practice squad just weeks ago. However, the unfamiliarity between the quarterback and offense hamstrung the Browns in obvious passing situations. The Browns will need to spend the week deciding if they want to start Flacco or Dorian Thompson-Robinson on Sunday. Flacco played well enough to beg the question as the Browns are desperate for any offense.

In this week’s studs and duds, we look at five difference-makers in the loss against the Rams.

Browns studs and duds: Top 5 players from win over Cardinals

The five best players from the Cleveland Browns victory over the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cleveland Browns shut down the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, dominating with a 27-0 victory. The team’s stars showed out in the shutout against the Cardinals, proving why they are among the very elite of the NFL.

Deshaun Watson looked extremely sharp in his return from the rotator cuff injury that made it nearly impossible for him to throw the ball, as demonstrated against the Colts a fortnight ago. On Sunday, Watson looked fully healthy and back to his normal self, seeking out contact. Wide receiver Amari Cooper jokingly told Watson, “Slide more” in their post-game press conference. The Browns’ defense once again regained their No. 1 ranking in most models after slipping against the Seahawks. It seemed like every defensive starter had a sack or tackle for loss as the Browns held the Cardinals to 58 yards in over 60 minutes.

Here are the five studs that advanced the Browns to victory. There are no duds in 27-point wins.

Browns Studs and Duds: Which players had the largest impact in vs. Seahawks?

Amari Cooper, David Njoku and Kareem Hunt were the most impactful players in the game against the Seahawks.

Every Sunday, the Cleveland Browns find novel ways to lose football games. It was no different against the Seattle Seahawks, as the Seahawks intercepted a pass deflected off a helmet. I know soccer is a growing sport in America, but I never expected to see a header in the real version of football. It’s truly incredible how the Browns manage to fail spectacularly in the most pain-inducing way possible.

What makes the situation more pathetic is that the Browns looked like the talented team fans expected after trailing 14-0 to start the game. The defense locked down the Seahawks during the second and third quarters. The offense clawed and fought their way back from the deficit. The team relied on its star players and offensive leaders.

For most of the game, it looked like the Browns could compete with any team in the NFL. It’s important to remember the Seahawks are one of the most talented teams in the NFC and a frontrunner to win the NFC West. Overall, the Browns leave the Emerald City with a loss, falling further behind in the race for the AFC North. Here are the studs and duds in the humiliating defeat in Seattle.

Browns Studs and Duds: Which players helped secure an ugly win vs. Colts?

The Browns’ stars shine bright as Myles Garrett, Denzel Ward and David Njoku help the Browns win against the Indianapolis Colts.

The Cleveland Browns narrowly escaped from Indianapolis with a victory over the Colts. The Browns extended their record to 4-2 with a second straight win this month. The game was chaotic from the very start to the last play of the game. P.J. Walker led the Browns to victory with the help of the Browns’ run game. Kareem Hunt scored two touchdowns, including the game-winning touchdown, while Jerome Ford had one touchdown on a 69-yard run during the first quarter. It was refreshing to watch the Browns rely on a strong run game to will the team to victory.

The Browns’ run game wasn’t the only unit that won the game for the team. The defense played extremely well against the Colts. They forced Gardner Minshew into multiple turnovers, including a costly fumble in the endzone that the Browns recovered for a touchdown. The victory over the Colts took the entire team. It was ugly, it was dirty, some may say it was undeserved, but a win is a win and I’ll take it any way I can.

Let’s shine a light on the studs and duds in the Browns’ messy victory over the Colts.

Browns Studs and Duds: Who dominated and disappointed in win over 49ers?

Highlighting the studs and duds in the Cleveland Browns’ upset victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

The Cleveland Browns upset the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. It was the biggest upset win for the Browns since the team defeated the New Orleans Saints in 2010. The win helped galvanize a downtrodden team, suffering from injuries to offensive leaders. From Amari Cooper to Wyatt Teller, we break down the Browns’ studs and duds from this game.

The Browns started the game fighting, quite literally during an exchange between 49ers’ wide receiver Deebo Samuel and Browns’ safety Juan Thornhill. It’s unsure what was said, but the pregame festivities set the intensity for the game. The game was a hard-hitting, action-packed mud fight. Even the refs were frazzled at times.

The Browns’ defense led the effort against the 49ers. The number one-ranked Browns’ defense knew this was a title fight for the best defense in football. They came out victorious, shutting down a top-3 49ers offense and reigniting a debate around their franchise quarterback. If only every win could inspire an opponent to have an identity crisis. I thought Brock Purdy did a good job of getting rid of the ball quickly.

He avoided Myles Garrett and Dalvin Tomlinson who lived in the backfield all day. The box scores won’t represent that fact. But 49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams called Myles Garrett a future Hall of Famer. That’s high praise coming from the best left tackle since Joe Thomas retired. This week’s Studs and Duds showcases the box score stuffers, in both the good and the bad ways.

Browns Studs and Duds: Who stood out for various reasons in loss to the Ravens?

Who were the studs and duds in the Cleveland Browns loss to the Baltimore Ravens?

The Cleveland Browns suffered another humiliating loss against their division rivals, this time falling to the Baltimore Ravens. The Browns couldn’t get anything going on offense, ending the game with more turnovers than points. The Browns’ offense looked lifeless under the helm of rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson, a late replacement for the injured Deshaun Watson. At least Myles Garrett played well once again.

It showed as the offense struggled to find consistency with the rookie quarterback. The line had difficulty adjusting to Thompson-Robinson’s drop depth, and the receivers were unaccustomed to the timing of his throws. The run game looked okay, but the Browns dug themselves into a hole and couldn’t rely on the run to score points.

The Browns’ defense did an admirable job despite bad field positions and little rest throughout the day. That’s not to say they were without fault; the defense struggled on third down. The defensive line couldn’t get close to Lamar Jackson, allowing him ample time to find open receivers downfield. The Browns gave up multiple second and third downs because they couldn’t get to Jackson. While Jackson is a top-5 quarterback in the NFL, that’s no excuse for what happened.

The Browns simply could not execute when it mattered most. Thankfully, the team will have a week off to regroup. Here are the Studs and Duds from this week’s loss.

Studs and Duds: Stars shine brightly in Browns win over Titans

The Cleveland Browns stars shined bright in this installment of studs and duds.

The Cleveland Browns showed their resilience as the defense, led by defensive end Myles Garrett, dominated the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Last week, the Browns’ season seemed lost after the Nick Chubb injury, but today the team is riding high off a 27-3 win. The offense had a hard time getting started but found its footing in the second quarter.

Deshaun Watson looked accurate and in rhythm for the first time in a Browns uniform. He had the offense humming both through the air and on the ground. In some respects, he finally looked like the player the Browns sacrificed so much for. The Browns will need to keep Watson confident to build upon the recent success. Watson still has streaks of reckless plays when trying to play hero ball.

His attempt to avoid a sack by throwing a backward pass to Elijah Moore was one of the dumbest things I’ve seen a Browns quarterback do during a game. The Browns cannot have their quarterback lose composure like that again.

On defense, the Browns continued to lock down opposing offenses. The Titans scored 3 points but had the most sustained success of any of the Browns’ opponents. The Titans were able to get into the red zone multiple times on Sunday. The Browns had not given up a red zone possession before the game. So while the Titans left the field with only three points, that’s more points than the Bengals or Steelers got from the red zone. The Browns’ defense has been outstanding to start the season.

Every week they make up the majority of the stud list, and this week is no different. The stars on this team are playing like stars.

Studs and Duds is all studs in the Browns win over the Titans

Not everyone had great games but the team is 9-3 and sometimes it’s best to just enjoy the happy moments

The Cleveland Browns just finished putting the Tennessee Titans away to an impressive tune of 41-35 and are now 9-3 for the first time since 1994. Everyone should be stoked and for that reason in this week’s stud and duds, we will only be exploring the studs baby!

Baker Mayfield

It is still shocking that people question Baker Mayfield and his ability, but maybe after orchestrating another phenomenal game against a good opponent the critics will shut up. Mayfield threw four touchdowns, all in the first half, and finished the game with 334 passing yards. Maybe no pass was prettier than the 75-yard touchdown pass to Donovan Peoples-Jones.

Myles Garrett

Garrett is a mainstay on this list, except for when he is dealing with COVID. He had another fantastic game with two tackles and a sack that showed just how elite and explosive he is off the edge. Garrett is the first player in franchise history to earn 10 or more sacks in three straight seasons. The only thing that would make his game even better would be the refs calling a hold every once in a while.

Donovan Peoples-Jones

“DPJ” didn’t have the perfect game as illustrated by his atrocious drop, but the late-round rookie did finish as the second leading receiver with two receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown. We spoke of the glory of his 75-yard touchdown in which he worked the defensive back like a rodeo clown and hopefully we can expect more of this moving forward.

Rashard Higgins

Higgins was the actual leading receiver for the Browns with six receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown. It almost makes you forget that he was in the coaching doghouse for some unknown reason last season…almost. Benching Higgins may have been the biggest mistake of the John Dorsey tenure.

Sheldon Richardson

Richardson may be the real MVP of the game as he was the focal point of stopping the Derrick Henry rushing attack, which was the main reason Tennessee was favored by a touchdown to begin with. Richardson not only stopped Henry early and often but also forced a fumble on Henry.

Not everyone had great games but the team is 9-3 and sometimes it’s best to just enjoy the happy moments.

The Browns moved to 8-3 with a 27-25 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. It wasn’t a great game for the Browns in eking past the one-win Jaguars, but the team accomplished coach Kevin Stefanski’s mantra of going 1-0 each week.

There were some very strong performances by several Browns players. Others had games they will not necessarily enjoy in the film room review.

Here are the studs and duds from the Browns win over the Jaguars in Week 12.
