Browns cut 4 players including starters T.J. Carrie and Demetrius Harris

3 of the 4 were John Dorsey signees last summer

The Cleveland Browns have severed ties with four players from the 2019 team, including three of the most prominent free-agent acquisitions from last offseason under then-GM John Dorsey.

New GM Andrew Berry and the Browns announced the release of CB T.J. Carrie, TE Demetrius Harris, OL Eric Kush and LB Adarius Taylor. All but Carrie were brought to the team by Dorsey and his staff in 2019. Harris and Kush were former Kansas City Chiefs who Dorsey had experience with in his own time with that franchise.

Carrie has been a starter for the Browns for his two seasons in Cleveland, playing both outside and in the slot. He had two years left on his contract.

Harris emerged as a primary short-yardage target but struggled overall in his one year in Cleveland. Kush started seven games at right guard and played in all 16 games. Taylor played almost exclusively on special teams after signing as a free agent.

Browns promote Brandin Bryant, Porter Gustin from the practice squad

Browns promote Brandin Bryant, Porter Gustin from the practice squad in the wake of injuries and suspensions

Desperate for healthy and available bodies along the defensive line for Week 12, the Cleveland Browns promoted two defenders from the practice squad on Friday. Tackle Brandin Bryant and EDGE Porter Gustin are now on the active 53-man roster.

They fill roster spots vacant due to the suspensions of Myles Garrett and Larry Ogunjobi. With EDGE Olivier Vernon also ruled out with his ongoing knee injury, the Browns are missing three of the four regular starters on the defensive line.

Bryant has been with the practice squad all season. He has previous experience with a handful of NFL teams as well as in the CFL. Gustin was signed to the practice squad following the trade of Genard Avery to the Philadelphia Eagles. He’s an undrafted rookie from USC who has primarily played outside linebacker in his career.

The Cleveland Browns have signed free agent edge rusher Bryan Cox to the 53-man roster. Cox was added Wednesday morning after the team’s waiving of linebacker Malik Jefferson was made official.

Cox has been in the NFL since 2017 after being undrafted out of Florida. He is the son of former Dolphins linebacker Bryan Cox. The younger Cox is bigger (6-3, 270 pounds) than his father and has played both defensive end and outside linebacker for the Carolina Panthers since entering the league. He made his 2019 debut in Week 9, recording one tackle in the Panthers’ win over Tennessee.

He was a rookie for the Panthers when current Browns defensive coordinator held that role in Carolina.
