Nets’ Cam Thomas reacts to achieving new scoring milestone

Cam Thomas reacts to being the youngest player in NBA history to score at least 40 points in three straight games.

Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas has shown what he is capable of when given the time essentially ever since Kyrie Irving wanted out of Brooklyn. Irving’s trade request became public on Friday and starting with the Nets’ game Saturday against the Washington Wizards, Thomas has scored at least 43 points in every contest.

Along with that, with Tuesday’s performance of scoring 43 points in the 116-112 loss to the Phoenix Suns, he became the youngest player in NBA history to score at least 40 points in three straight games. It cannot be overstated how great Thomas has been lately.

Thomas’ performance over the last three games isn’t solely because of Kyrie Irving leaving. While Irving was on the roster, Thomas has had a few great games, such as when he scored 33 points against the Indiana Pacers on Dec. 10. Thomas maintains that he has always been the bucket-getter that he looks like right now, he just needed the playing time to show that. Thomas gave his reaction to his new scoring milestone after the game:

“Yeah, it’s real surreal. I’m just glad to have my name in history books being as young. Obviously, I’d rather have the win because it sounds better when you have these 40 point games with the two wins that we lost. But it’s just good. Have my name in history. I’m still going to embrace it. Me being young, you still want to embrace your accolades. And, just be proud of yourself to be proud of all the hard work you put in. So, that’s really the main thing.”

Nets’ Joe Harris says ‘rebounding’ was main reason for loss to the Suns

Joe Harris says Brooklyn’s lack of rebounding cost them the game on Tuesday against the Phoenix Suns.

Brooklyn Nets guard Joe Harris is one of the veterans on the team who has seen what good basketball looks like. He has also seen what bad basketball looks like or what factors play into a team winning/losing a game.

In Tuesday’s 116-112 loss to the Phoenix Suns, Harris had eight points and two assists in the losing effort. However, Harris was one of the players that was steady all the way through the game, including the end when the Nets were trying their hardest to come back from 13 points down to win the game.

One of the reasons that the Nets were unable to get over the hump was because of rebounding. Brooklyn finished the game losing the battle of the boards to Phoenix 48-36. In addition to the wide disparity in the rebounding department, the Nets allowed the Suns to grab 16 offensive rebounds. Harris spoke after the game about how Brooklyn not doing a better job on the boards cost them the chance to complete the comeback bid:

“Rebounding, I mean, it’s been probably our Achilles heel for most of the season. Just limiting second chance opportunities. There was a number of possessions there, especially late in the game where, two, three opportunities and especially a good team like Phoenix, you just can’t afford those opportunities. You gotta get the 50/50 balls and you got to make sure that you close out a defensive possession with the rebound.”

NBA Twitter reacts to Nets’ hard-fought 116-112 loss to the Suns

Here’s how NBA Twitter reacted to the Nets’ loss to the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday.

The Brooklyn Nets hosted the Phoenix Suns at Barclays Center on Tuesday and lost 116-112. Phoenix has swept the regular-season series against Brooklyn 2-0.

For the Nets, Cam Thomas had 43 points and five rebounds while Nic Claxton had 17 points and 13 rebounds. TJ Warren had 17 points and Joe Harris had 8 points.

For the Suns, Deandre Ayton had 35 points and 15 rebounds while Mikal Bridges had 21 points and two assists. Devin Booker had 19 points and Cameron Johnson had 14 points.

In the first half, Brooklyn and Phoenix played to a standstill until the final minutes of the half. The Nets stayed close because of their ability to score in transition while also limiting the Suns scoring opportunities in the fastbreak.

In the second half, the Nets fought until the very end, but were unable to make any dents in terms of gaining a lead. As has been a common theme for the Nets this season, the Suns dominated in points in the paint 64-52.

Kyrie Irving “happy” to be someplace where he feels wanted

Kyrie Irving’s tenure with the Brooklyn Nets has finally come to an end with his trade to the Dallas Mavericks. This move coming almost immediately after he requested for a trade from the organization.

Kyrie Irving’s time with the Brooklyn Nets has finally come to an end with his trade to the Dallas Mavericks. This move coming almost immediately after he requested for a trade from the organization.

In his first press conference as a Maverick, he was asked about his time in Brooklyn and if he is happy to be in Dallas. Irving went on to say (h/t to ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk) that “I just want to be someplace where I am celebrated and not just tolerated.”

He continued that, “There were times throughout this process when I was in Brooklyn where I felt very disrespected.” When asked what he felt like the Nets did that he considered disrespectful, he pushed off for another day and mentioned that “he wasn’t the type to go behind people’s backs about things to the media.”

Either way you look at it it’s probably best for both teams going forward. The question is though what did the Nets do that he deemed disrespectful. On the surface it appeared as though they catered to his every wish and did everything they could to keep him content while also acting in their best interest.

This ends a tumultuous tenure with the Brooklyn and the question that is on every single Net’s fans mind is whether or not Irving is the only Net’s star to be traded before the deadline.

Woj: Nets’ Kessler Edwards has agreed to be traded to the Kings along with cash

Kessler Edwards has agreed to be traded to the Sacramento Kings, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Brooklyn Nets forward Kessler Edwards has agreed to be traded, along with cash, to the Sacramento Kings, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. According to Wojnarowski, The Nets save a total of $8M in salary and luxury tax and open up a roster spot. Edwards still has to approve trade because he has a “one-year Bird Rights restriction” in his deal.

Despite there being reports that the Nets remain active and determined to add a star player to pair with Kevin Durant, it looks like this Edwards trade is one of the least-impactful trades done near the deadline thus far. Edwards, who is in his second season with the Nets, has not played much for the team outside of the G-League.

Wojnarowski also reports that Sacramento plans to use Edwards for their G-League affiliate, the Stockton Kings, but that his status is fluid with the deadline still two days away. Edwards was not helping Brooklyn contend for a title this season anyway and trading him gives Brooklyn an extra roster spot to potentially make a bigger move before the deadline passes.

Nets vs. Suns game preview: How to watch, TV channel, start time

Here’s the preview of Nets-Suns on Tuesday.

The Brooklyn Nets (32-21, fifth in the Eastern Conference) welcome the Phoenix Suns (29-26, sixth in the Western Conference) to Barclays Center for the second and final matchup between the teams this season. Phoenix leads the regular-season series 1-0.

In the first game, a Suns 117-112 win on Jan. 19, Mikal Bridges scored 28 points to lead Phoenix to the victory. Brooklyn came back from being down as many 24 points to make the game interesting in the fourth quarter thanks to Kyrie Irving (now a Dallas Maverick) scoring 21 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter.

The Nets come into this game having won five of its last 13 games (length of time Kevin Durant has missed due to his sprained right MCL) and will be more short-handed in this game with five players listed as out. The Suns come into this matchup having won just 10 of its last 21 games (length of time Devin Booker has missed with his groin issue), but have gone 8-2 over its past 10 games. Phoenix should also have their normal starting five now that Booker is listed as probable to go along with Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton.

Here’s when and where you can tune in to see the matchup:

PHOTOS: Cam Thomas’ hot-streak continues as he drops 47 on Clippers, joins LeBron in exclusive club

Thomas is the second-youngest player to score at least 44 points in consecutive games after LeBron.

[autotag]Cam Thomas[/autotag] scored a career-high 44 points to lift the Brooklyn Nets over the Washington Wizards on Saturday. Surely, he wouldn’t top that mark any time soon. Right?

Wrong.

Thomas reset his career-best mark two days later when he scored 47 in a losing effort against the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night. He’s one of only eight players to score 40 points in back-to-back games this season, and at 21, he’s the second-youngest player to score at least 44 points in consecutive games, behind only Lebron James.

After recently trading Kyrie Irving, Thomas — who has spent most of his two seasons in a rotational role after he was taken with the 27th overall pick by Brooklyn back in 2021 — could be set to see a stark uptick in playing time.

He’s certainly making the most of his minutes right now, and we’ll have to see if he can continue this magical stretch when the Nets return to the court on Tuesday night to host the Phoenix Suns.

Here were the best photos from Thomas’ career game on Monday.

See Cam Thomas’ interesting response to LeBron comparison after back-to-back 40-point games

“I would have been a little bit more excited if it was Kobe,” Thomas joked after becoming the youngest player to score 44 in consecutive games after LeBron.

[autotag]Cam Thomas[/autotag] continued to take the NBA by storm on Monday night, pouring in 47 more points against the Los Angeles Clippers.

It’s his second-straight 40+ point game after he dropped 44 on the Lakers over the weekend. Thomas became the second-youngest player to hit the 40 mark in back-to-back games, joining the company of LeBron James.

Thomas was asked about that after the game and had an interesting response. Thomas acknowledged the achievement but said he would have been “a little bit more excited” if it was Kobe Bryant.

Thomas’ respect for Bryant comes as no surprise. Thomas wore 24 at LSU and continues to wear it with the Nets.

A former five-star from Virginia, Thomas has now attracted a national spotlight with the Nets. He’s a known commodity now, and his performance over the next few weeks will be interesting.

This could just be a flash in the pan, or Thomas could become the NBA’s next elite scorer. With the Nets’ recent trade of Kyrie Irving, there’s an opportunity for Thomas to make his mark.
