Brooklyn Nets at Denver Nuggets odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Brooklyn Nets at Denver Nuggets odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Denver Nuggets (28-24) host the slumping Brooklyn Nets (29-23) Sunday at Ball Arena for a 3:30 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we look at the Nets vs. Nuggets odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Brooklyn has lost seven consecutive games with the most recent being a 125-102 whooping at the hands of the Utah Jazz Saturday.

The Nets have been awful since F Kevin Durant was sidelined with an injury Jan. 17. Brooklyn is 2-8 straight up (SU) and 3-6-1 against the spread (ATS) with the 25th-ranked net rating (minus-6.0) since losing their star forward.

Denver has lost three straight games at the Minnesota Timberwolves Tuesday, at the Jazz Wednesday and at home versus the New Orleans Pelicans Friday. The Nuggets are 6-4 SU but just 3-6-1 ATS in their last 10 games.

The Nuggets beat the Nets 124-118 in Brooklyn in their first meeting this season, Jan. 26, pushing as 6-point road favorites. However, the Nets were missing KD, G Kyrie Irving and G James Harden.

Nets at Nuggets odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Nuggets 119, Nets 108

Money line

PASS.

The Nets (+200) could still have two All-NBA-caliber dudes on the floor and the Nuggets (-250) just lost to a New Orleans team that’s 12 games below .500. Plus I wouldn’t bet an NBA regular-season favorite at greater than -170.

Against the spread

BET the NUGGETS -5.5 (-110) for 1 unit.

This is more a fade of a sputtering Nets squad rather than a bet on the Nuggets. The Nets have the worst defensive rating in the NBA and the fifth-worst defensive effective field goal shooting (eFG%) during their seven-game losing skid.

It’s all bad in Brooklyn; there are rumors circulating that the Nets could be moving Harden at the trade deadline, KD is battling another injury and Kyrie’s vaccination status is still hanging over the team. It’s also unclear if Harden will even suit up Sunday.

More importantly, Denver big Nikola Jokic is by far the best player on the floor and Brooklyn doesn’t have anyone that can check him. Jokic is leading the NBA in PER, Win Shares per 48 and box plus/minus.

Over/Under

PASS.

My hunch is that this total is too high but if Harden is active then it’s tough betting this Under.

The Under has cashed in three of Denver’s last five games and three of Brooklyn’s last four.

However, the Nets have the worst defensive rating over the past two weeks and the Nuggets are fifth in offensive rating over that span.

Brooklyn Nets at Utah Jazz odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Brooklyn Nets at Utah Jazz odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Brooklyn Nets (29-22) head to Salt Lake City Friday for a 9 p.m. ET tip-off with the Utah Jazz (31-21) at the Vivint Smart Home Arena. Below, we look at the Nets vs. Jazz odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Brooklyn lost its sixth consecutive game Wednesday after being upset 112-101 at the Sacramento Kings as 5-point road favorites. The Nets are just 1-4-1 against the spread (ATS) over the past six games. SG James Harden (hamstring) has been ruled out tonight.

Utah snapped its 5-game losing skid by squeaking past a Nikola Jokic-less Denver Nuggets 108-104 as 6.5-point home favorites Tuesday. Over the past two weeks, the Jazz are 2-5 straight up (SU) and 1-5-1 ATS. Clearly the loss of C Rudy Gobert (calf) has them compromised.

Nets at Jazz odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Jazz 121, Nets 119

Money line

PASS.

I only “lean” to Brooklyn plus the points and don’t like it enough to sprinkle on the Nets (+180). But if you’re feeling frisky and want to double up, the price is ripe.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to the NETS +5.5 (-108) as more of a fade against this version of the Jazz -5.5 (-112) who shouldn’t this big of a favorite over anyone.

Utah is 8-18 ATS as a home favorite with a minus-4.1 ATS margin and 2-9 ATS at home versus teams with a winning record.

On the other hand, Brooklyn is 5-4 ATS as a road underdog and 7-4 ATS in away games versus winning teams.

Kyrie Irving is averaging 28.2 PPG on 48.6% shooting (38.2% from deep) in five career meetings with SG Donovan Mitchell.

Furthermore, Utah’s defense has taken a nosedive since losing Gobert, who has missed the previous five games. Over that span, the Jazz rank 25th in defensive rating.

However, it’s only a “LEAN” to the NETS +5.5 (-108) because they have been terrible lately as well, and most of the market is betting Brooklyn.

Over/Under

BET the OVER 229.5 (-112) for 1 unit because Brooklyn’s defense has been even worse than Utah’s recently. In fact, over the past two weeks, the Nets have the third-worst adjusted defensive rating, according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG).

On top of that, both teams have a top-10 offensive FT/FGA rate, and we have a very Over-friendly officiating crew assigned to this Nets-Jazz game. All three referees officiate more to the Over, and they have a combined 62-44 O/U record.

Finally, I’m expecting bounce-back performances from both offenses, which struggled in their previous games. The Nets put up a 101-point dud versus a lowly Kings team while the Jazz get back their best offensive player.

Los Angeles Lakers at Brooklyn Nets odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Los Angeles Lakers at Brooklyn Nets odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Los Angeles Lakers (23-24) head to Barclays Center Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. ET game against the Brooklyn Nets (29-17). Below, we look at the Lakers vs. Nets odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

This is expected to be Lakers F Anthony Davis’ return to action as he’s been sidelined with a knee injury since the middle of December.

Davis returns at a perfect time for L.A. who’s alternated between winning and losing over the last five games with the latest being a 113-107 loss at the Miami Heat as a 4-point road underdog Sunday. The Lakers are 19-28 against the spread (ATS) and 26-20-1 Over/Under (O/U).

Brooklyn had its two-game win streak snapped Sunday after getting routed by the Minnesota Timberwolves 136-125 as a 3-point road underdog. The Nets are 19-27 ATS and 22-24 O/U.

The Nets beat the Lakers 122-115 as 2.5-point underdogs in their first meeting this season on Christmas night. Brooklyn All-Star G James Harden put up a 36-10-10 triple-double and L.A.’s F LeBron James scored a game-high 39 points.

Lakers at Nets odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Lakers 115, Nets 109

Money line

PASS since I like L.A. to win this game outright but the Lakers (-150) is a little out of my price range.

Against the spread

BET the LAKERS -2.5 (-120) for 1 unit because this is a better spot for L.A. and the main reason why the Nets won their first meeting with the Lakers is because Brooklyn guard Patty Mills went ballistic from 3-point range.

Mills scored a season-high 34 points on 64.7% shooting and sunk 8 of 13 from behind the arc and I’m willing to bet that doesn’t happen again.

AD’s return to the lineup should also improve L.A.’s defense on every level. The Lakers should be able to extend their perimeter defense knowing they have one of the league’s elite rim protectors on the floor.

Furthermore, the Nets are an NBA-worst 5-17-1 ATS at home with a minus-7.0 ATS margin while the Lakers are 6-5 ATS as a road underdog. Brooklyn is 6-11 ATS in non-conference games and L.A. is 10-8 ATS in those spots.

Plus both teams have played terrible defense in Jan. and both perform well against teams in the bottom 10 of adjusted defensive rating.

Each is 13-4 straight-up (SU) versus bottom-10 defenses but the Lakers have a positive ATS margin in those games and Brooklyn has a negative ATS margin, according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG).

BET the LAKERS -2.5 (-120).

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the UNDER 225.5 (-107) for a quarter-unit mostly as a fade against a majority of the market that’s betting the Over.

The return of AD should benefit L.A.’s defense more so than its offense and it could take AD a few games to find his groove offensively.

AD coming back also means the Lakers now have three ball-stopping isolation players in their starting 5 (LeBron, AD and G Russell Westbrook). We could see a lot of long possessions of iso-ball.

However, I only “LEAN” to the UNDER 225.5 (-108) because Brooklyn is 27th in adjusted defensive rating over the past two weeks and L.A. is 23rd, per CTG.

Brooklyn Nets at San Antonio Spurs odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Brooklyn Nets at San Antonio Spurs odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The San Antonio Spurs (17-28) host the Brooklyn Nets (28-16) Friday at the AT&T Center for an 8:30 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we look at the Nets vs. Spurs odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Brooklyn has alternated between winning and losing over the past 10 games with the latest being a 119-118 victory versus the Washington Wizards Wednesday. The Nets are 18-26 against the spread (ATS) and 21-23 Over/Under (O/U).

San Antonio crushed the Oklahoma City Thunder 118-96 Wednesday, but the Spurs are just 2-5 overall in the last seven games. The Spurs are 24-21 ATS and 22-21-2 O/U.

The Nets (-9.5) eked past the Spurs 121-119 in overtime Jan. 9, but Brooklyn has won four straight versus San Antonio (3-1 ATS).

Nets at Spurs odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Spurs 118, Nets 116

Money line

BET the SPURS (-110) for 1 unit for a variety of reasons. First of all, the Spurs are better than their record indicates.

For example, San Antonio has the second-worst win differential based on adjusted net rating at a minus-4.1 but is fifth in ATS margin at plus-2.0, according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG). Essentially the Spurs have four fewer wins than they should.

Second, San Antonio gets a lot of easy buckets whereas Brooklyn gives up easy scores. The Spurs are 12th in points off of turnovers per game, fourth in second-chance points per game (PPG), ninth in fast-break PPG and second in paint PPG.

Whereas the Nets’ defense is 26th in points off of turnovers per game, 22nd in second-chance PPG, 27th in fast-break PPG and 17th in paint PPG allowed.

Also, San Antonio does a good job keeping foes off the free throw line, which is massively important when facing James Harden. In fact, the Nets are fourth in adjusted offensive free-throw rate and the Spurs are fourth in adjusted defensive free-throw rate, per CTG.

Furthermore, San Antonio is seventh in adjusted offensive rating at home, and Brooklyn struggles against good offenses (CTG). The Nets are 5-9 straight-up (SU) with a minus-3.8 adjusted net rating and the worst ATS margin at minus-6.8, per CTG.

Moreover, San Antonio is 6-1 ATS in its last seven games versus teams with a 60.0% winning percentage or better and 6-4 ATS at home versus teams with a winning record. These ATS trends are applicable since this game is priced as a coin-flip.

Finally, all the money is coming in on Brooklyn in this spot but the look-ahead line has dropped from the Nets -145 to the current price (according to Pregame.com). It feels like the sportsbooks are laying a trap with Brooklyn.

BET the SPURS (-110).

Against the spread

PASS since the Spurs +1.5 (-102) doesn’t provide much insurance for San Antonio’s money line (ML). However, if the Spurs’ spread goes north of +2.5 then I’d sprinkle on San Antonio’s ML and take the points with the Spurs.

Over/Under

Slight “LEAN” to the OVER 232.5 (-110) for a small wager, if at all, because I much prefer the San Antonio side more than the total.

That said, there are many Over-friendly trends in this game. The Spurs score a lot more points in San Antonio where they are 15-6-1 O/U. Brooklyn is 12-9 O/U on the road, and the Over is 5-0 in the last five Nets-Spurs meetings.
