Bronny James threw down the iconic Kobe Bryant reverse dunk after LeBron’s tribute

Awesome.

LeBron James paid an incredible — and unplanned — tribute to Kobe Bryant last week when he threw down a fastbreak dunk against the Rockets with the exact reverse dunk Kobe Bryant broke out 19 years ago. The dunk produced one of the most iconic LeBron photos of his career, and it was such a special moment that LeBron was still discussing the dunk days later.

But it wasn’t just LeBron who channeled Kobe with the reverse jam — LeBron’s son, Bronny James, did so as well.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday night, LeBron discussed the eery similarities between his reverse dunk and the original Kobe Dunk from 2001. Both dunks were on the same basket, at the same arena and off steals. While LeBron’s dunk took place during a game, Bronny broke the reverse dunk out during warmups of Sierra Canyon’s game.

LeBron said of the moment:

“I was watching social media today, and my son did the same thing in his warmup. He didn’t do it in a game, but he kind of did the same dunk in his warmups today. So, Kobe — he’s in all of us right now.”

LeBron added that he didn’t plan that dunk in the moment as a nod to Kobe, but he loved that the similarities were so striking.

Bronny throws down amazing alley-oop as Sierra Canyon honors Kobe, Gigi

With LeBron James in attendance, Bronny Jr. and Zaire Wade honored the memory of Kobe and Gigi Bryant in the season’s final home game.

The Los Angeles Lakers are still in the process of grieving the tragic loss of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gigi, and seven others in a helicopter crash on Sunday, with Tuesday’s scheduled game against the L.A. Clippers being postponed for a later date. But the cancellation gave LeBron James a special opportunity to watch his son Bronny and his Sierra Canyon teammates play their final regular season home game of the season, where they honored the memory of Kobe and Gigi.

Bronny wore a pair of Kobe’s last night with messages written on them to both Kobe and “Lil’ Sis” Gigi. And with his father watching courtside, Bronny threw down the best dunk of his young career.

Members of Sierra Canyon and Campbell Hall both took special 24-second and 8-second violations to honor Kobe’s memory. Also, the entire Sierra Canyon squad wore Kobe for the in-game tributes to him prior to moving to their regular uniforms for the rest of the game.

Sierra Canyon honors Kobe Bryant with LeBron James in attendance

Players took the floor wearing Kobe Bryant shirts while Sierra Canyon and Campbell Hall each took clock violations to begin the game.

As Campbell Hall and Sierra Canyon took the floor on Tuesday night, the two high school basketball teams honored the late Kobe Bryant by taking two clock violations.

The gesture was prearranged by the two teams ahead of the contest as the game officials set the shot clock to 24 seconds in this instance, versus the standard 35 seconds in California. Campbell Hall took a 24-second violation while Sierra Canyon took an eight-second violation.

LeBron James, the father of Sierra Canyon’s Bronny James, attended the matchup as the two teams paid tribute to Bryant, his daughter, Gigi, and the seven others that perished in a helicopter crash just outside of Los Angeles on Sunday morning.

Following the death of Bryant, the NBA postponed Tuesday night’s game between the Clippers and Lakers as several players and those within the organization continue to mourn the loss of Bryant. Teams across the NBA have also honored Bryant by taking clock violations with each arena holding a moment of silence.

LeBron brushes off question about whether son gets drafted by Knicks

“He’s in ninth grade,” Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James replied to a question about his son potentially being drafted by the Knicks.

Even now as LeBron James is in his career twilight, living his new life with his family in Los Angeles, the dream of seeing him play on a nightly basis at Madison Square Garden as a member of the New York Knicks still lives on. So much so that James was asked about potentially playing for the Knicks, in the event that his 14-year old son Bronny Jr. gets drafted by them.

The premise of the question, about LeBron’s son being drafted in some far-off future where LeBron is still in the league, as he hopes to be, was brushed off because LeBron just wants Bronny to worry about being in ninth grade.

Although Bronny and the Sierra Canyon team he is on already have a following that was bigger than anything we saw during LeBron’s high school career, he’s still in high school. LeBron and the family have also made sure to not let Bronny do any interviews with media outlets until he graduates.

After LeBron’s high school experience was anything but normal, LeBron is trying to make sure his kids have a little bit more normalcy in their school experiences.

WATCH: LeBron James calls out fan who threw trash at son, Bronny, ‘disrespectful’

LeBron James and the lakers fell 139-107 versus the Celtics in Boston on Monday, but LBJ is making headlines responding postgame to something that happened on a different basketball court.

LeBron James and the lakers fell 139-107 versus the Celtics in Boston on Monday, but LBJ is making headlines responding postgame to something that happened on a different basketball court.

James’ teenaged son, Bronny, was playing in a game of his own on MLK Day when someone threw something at the younger James’ back while he was inbounding the ball.

“I mean it’s just disrespectful, and it was a little kid I don’t know how old that little kid was,” LeBron said. “I don’t know if he learned that on his own or he learned that at home or whatever the case may be, but it’s disrespectful. I wonder how old that kid is if he was around Bronny’s age or Bryce’s age.”

James explained that he was at his son’s game and saw the official stop the game, but that he did not realize why that happened until he saw the video after arriving at TD Garden for his own game.

Bronny’s teammate, Zaire Williams, told reporters after the HoopHall Classic, which wrapped up in Springfield, Massachusetts Monday, “You’d be surprised by all the stuff Bronny has to go through. It’s not fair, but he doesn’t let it phase him at all. I’m learning how to be more like that from him and he’s younger than me.”

LeBron agreed that his 14-year-old is level headed, saying he’s calmer than both of his parents, adding, “I guess he’s taken that from me too. I let a lot of (expletive) go. (…) But that (expletive) made me mad when I saw it.”

The 90-minute ride in a vehicle (which USA Today Sports confirmed as the means of transportation) to Springfield from Boston is something James said he doesn’t mind, calling it “special,” that he and his son have games that close to one another so far from their California home.

“The only bad thing about today is I took two Ls,” LeBron said. “The James gang took two Ls today. There’s always better days.”

Lakers coach Frank Vogel disappointed with Lakers lack of physicality

Los Angeles Lakers head coach Frank Vogel wasn’t happy with his team’s energy and effort against the Boston Celtics on Monday.

The Los Angeles Lakers were barely in the game during Monday night’s loss to the Boston Celtics. The 32-point loss was the biggest margin of defeat the Lakers saw this season and although there was plenty of talk about LeBron James breaking from his routine to see his son Bronny play in nearby Springfield, head coach Frank Vogel had some more basic gripes with his teams play.

Vogel has preached all season about the Lakers being a physical team that plays with contact and during last night’s game, he didn’t see that. He went off about it to reporters after the game.

(Hat-Tip SB Nation’s Christian Rivas)

“That’s one of the most disappointing things for me because I feel like that’s a controllable thing: Boxing out and hitting people, and we didn’t really do it all in the first half. So, I’m very disappointed in that, but really from the total performance.”

The Lakers have used their size to great advantage for most of the season. However, last night they were pummeled on the glass, giving up a 12-rebound advantage to the Celtics in the loss.

LeBron acknowledges his routine was broken by going to watch Bronny play before Celtics loss

LeBron acknowledges that his game day routine was broken by going to watch Bronny play in Springfield before Celtics loss.

LeBron James traveled to Springfield, Massachusetts to watch his son Bronny play on Monday at 1pm ET at the Basketball Hall of Fame. After the game, he then traveled back to the TD Garden to meet the Boston Celtics at 7:30pm. Despite throwing off his pregame routine with the game day travel, LeBron told Bill Oram of The Athletic that he’d do the same thing all over again.

While attending Bronny’s game, LeBron witnessed the unfortunate incident of a fan in the stands throwing candy or popcorn at his son while he inbounded the basketball in the 3rd quarter. Then, Lebron and his Lakers got rolled by Kemba Walker and the Celtics by a score of 139-107. But LeBron did not have any regrets following the blowout loss.

“This right here is all secondary when it comes to my family,” LeBron said.

LeBron struggled from the field against Boston, shooting just 5-of-12 on the night an missing both of the 3-pointers he attempted. He also turned the ball over four times despite finishing with 15 points, 13 assists and seven rebounds. Not helping matters was Anthony Davis who also finished far from his statistical averages with nine points and four boards.

Next up for LeBron and the Lakers are the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET as they look to bounce back from a 32-point drubbing.
