Ben Simmons leads team to win in SLAM’s Call of Duty 6 vs. 6 tourney

Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons is skilled on the sticks in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Ben Simmons is a two-time All-Star for the Philadelphia 76ers, and while his on-court skill set is multidimensional, his skills on the sticks are just as nice.

Simmons staked his claim as arguably the best NBA player at Call of Duty on Saturday night. He participated in SLAM’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare tourney, which was live streamed on the media outlet’s Twitch account.

The series went to seven games, and Simmons and his team won the tourney 4-3. The series-clincher came on the map Shipment, with the game mode set on hardpoint. Hardpoint consists of having to hold different spots on a map for a certain amount of time. As the respective teams fight over the designated spot, whichever team that holds the area has its point total go up with each second.

Simmons’ team consisted of fellow basketball players such as Utah Jazz wing Royce O’Neale, New Orleans Pelicans guard Josh Hart and Kentucky commit Terrence Clarke.

The opposing team had NBA players such as Miami Heat big man Meyers Leonard, Jazz star Donovan Mitchell, Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine and Portland Trail Blazers wing Mario Hezonja. Sierra Canyon freshman Bronny James also hopped on the team.

Simmons’ team was up 3-0 to begin the tourney, but then players like James and Hezonja started to show their skills in modes like Capture the Flag, a mode that Simmons and his squad lost in twice during the tourney.

A quality gamer, Simmons showed how skilled he is at using rifles throughout the tourney, but that strength was especially displayed during the last game. He frequently downed players with one shot as he led his team to victory.

With the NBA currently on hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, events like these can be a way for players and fans to have a positive attitude, relax and have fun.
