Broncos place practice squad OT Will Sherman on injury list

The Broncos placed OT Will Sherman (ankle) on their practice squad injury list on Tuesday.

The offensive line injuries keep coming for the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos placed backup offensive tackle Will Sherman (ankle) on the team’s practice squad injury list on Tuesday, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. The injury happened during practice last week.

Sherman (6-4, 300 pounds) joined the Broncos in 2022 after previously competing on the practice squad of the New England Patriots in 2021. He spent last season on Denver’s practice squad and is yet to make his NFL debut.

The Broncos also lost fill-in starting right tackle Alex Palczewski and starting center Luke Wattenberg to ankle injuries this week. Denver signed tackle Cam Fleming and center Dieter Eiselen to the practice squad to add more depth while Palczewski and Wattenberg are sidelined.

Broncos right tackle Mike McGlinchey (knee) will be eligible to return from injured reserve next week. In the meantime, Matt Peart (right tackle) and Alex Forsyth (center) are likely the next men up on the offensive line.

Broncos OT Alex Palczewski believed to have suffered high ankle sprain

Alex Palczewski likely has a high ankle sprain. Mike McGlinchey has to sit out one more game before being eligible to return from IR.

Denver Broncos right tackle Alex Palczewski is believed to have suffered a high ankle sprain during Sunday’s 34-18 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, according to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Palczewski (6-6, 314 pounds) will undergo more testing on Monday. If it is indeed a high ankle sprain, Palczewski could miss multiple weeks. That would be a big blow to Denver’s offensive line as ‘Palco’ has done an excellent job filling in for Mike McGlinchey, who is still on injured reserve.

“Very impressed,” Broncos offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi said when asked about Palczewski on Friday. “We talked about it last week. This guy started and I think he set a record for most games played in college. He just knows how to play the game. I think we kind of anticipated that he’d be able to hang in there and be productive.

“You don’t know for sure until you really see the live bullets and he’s kind of lived up to those expectations. It’s fun to watch when you have a guy that’s [a] late draft pick or a free agent who are able to come in and compete at that level and compete well. It’s very exciting.”

If the Broncos place Palczewski on IR, he would have to sit out at least four games. McGlinchey, meanwhile, will be eligible to return in Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints.

In the meantime, Matt Peart is presumably the next man up against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6, assuming Palczewski won’t be available.

Broncos LB Alex Singleton will undergo ACL surgery in L.A. on Oct. 15

Broncos LB Alex Singleton will undergo ACL surgery in Los Angeles on Oct. 15, according to 9News.

After tearing his ACL against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 22, Denver Broncos inside linebacker Alex Singleton will travel to California for surgery later this month, according to a report from KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

Dr. Neal ElAttrache will perform the surgery in Los Angeles on Oct. 15, according to Klis. It was a clean injury for Singleton, which is good news for the linebacker’s recovery. He should be healed in time to return ahead of the 2025 season, which will be the final year of his contract with the Broncos.

In the meantime, Denver has turned to Justin Strnad to step up at ILB.

“It hurts a lot,” defensive coordinator Vance Joseph said of Singleton’s injury last week. “Obviously, you lose one of your better players, it’s not good for you. It’s a long season, and every year something is going to happen. I didn’t know what was going to happen, but I’m not shook or surprised that we lost a good player. We have guys in that room that have been practicing and playing for us that we had picked that we have to play with.

“When you lose a player like Alex, everyone has to do more, have to be better on game day. The safeties have to be better, and Pat [Surtain] has to be better. It’s a group effort to kind of cover what he gave us.”

Singleton led the Broncos with 31 tackles before his injury.

Sean Payton provides brief injury update on Garett Bolles

“All the X-Rays were negative,” Sean Payton said of Garett Bolles. “Good news there. MRIs were negative. Obviously, there’s a contusion.”

Denver Broncos left tackle Garett Bolles left Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks with an ankle injury in the fourth quarter of a 26-20 loss.

After the game, Broncos coach Sean Payton indicated that he believed Bolles bruised his ankle and would be “fine.” During his conference call with reporters on Monday, Payton was asked for an update on the lineman.

“How about this being the first Monday morning presser where we’ll discuss an injury, but then we’re never going to discuss it again?” Payton said. “All the X-Rays were negative. Good news there. MRIs were negative. Obviously, there’s a contusion. That’s what I know, and that’s a positive.”

The “contusion” is the “bruise” that Payton referenced on Sunday night. It remains to be seen if that will cause Bolles to miss any time. Matt Peart filled in for Bolles against the Seahawks.

The Broncos will return to practice on Wednesday and an injury report will follow, so we’ll find out more about Bolles’ status mid-week.
