Commanders final Week 7 injury report: Several Panthers ruled out

Dorance Armstrong is out for the Commanders in Week 7.

The Washington Commanders wrapped up practice on Friday in preparation for Sunday’s Week 7 game against the Carolina Panthers. Head coach Dan Quinn announced the Commanders would be without two players, including starting defensive end Dorance Armstrong. Rookie safety Tyler Owens will also miss another game.

“Dorance will not make it up for this game and worked hard to get there, but just not quite to the spot that we need him to be to let him play in his own style,” Quinn said. “So, we’ll see what next week looks like, but he had a good week but not there yet then. And same with Tyler Owens.”

They were the only players listed as out for Washington. However, three were listed as questionable, including running back Brian Robinson Jr.

Meanwhile, Carolina will be without six players on Sunday. The Panthers also listed six players as questionable and three as doubtful.

Commanders vs. Panthers Thursday injury report: Big list of players out

A lengthy injury report on Thursday.

The Washington Commanders continued their preparation for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday. They were back on the practice field, but starting defensive end Dorance Armstrong remained out with a knee injury.

Armstrong injured a rib in Sunday’s loss at Baltimore. He left the game in the first half and did not return. Head coach Dan Quinn didn’t believe it would be a long-term issue for Armstrong. The good news for the Commanders is that Clelin Ferrell returned last week after missing three games.

Here’s the full injury report for the Commanders:

Did not participate: LB Bobby Wagner (NIR, rest), DE Dorance Armstrong (rib), LB Frankie Luvu (toe/NIR)

Limited participants: RB Brian Robinson Jr. (knee), G Nick Allegretti (ankle),  DE Clelin Ferrell (knee), S Quan Martin (neck), S Tyler Owens (shin), C Tyler Biadasz (thumb)

Full participants: CB Emmanuel Forbes (thumb), LB Jordan Magee (knee), WR Noah Brown (groin), S Percy Butler (groin), DT Daron Payne (knee)

Carolina’s injury report is lengthy. Eight players, including edge Jadeveon Clowney and wide receiver Diontae Johnson, missed practice Thursday for the Panthers.

Johnson is Carolina’s top receiver.

Commanders injury report: No Dorance Armstrong, but Brian Robinson returns

No Dorance Armstrong, but good news concerning Brian Robinson Jr.

The Washington Commanders began preparing for their Week 7 game against the Carolina Panthers by making some roster moves due to injuries. Washington placed starting defensive tackle Jonathan Allen on the reserve/injured list. Allen will miss the remainder of the season with a torn pec.

The Commanders also placed rookie backup defensive Javontae Jean-Baptiste on IR, but he was designated to return, meaning he’ll miss at least four games. The Commanders signed DT Sheldon Day from the practice squad and also added veteran DE Jalyn Holmes.

Washington opened practice Wednesday without three players. Tight end Zach Ertz received his customary veteran rest day, while rookie safety Tyler Owens (shin) remains sidelined. Also out on Wednesday was starting defensive end Dorance Armstrong, who injured his rib in Sunday’s loss at Baltimore.

In some good news, starting running back Brian Robinson Jr. returned on a limited basis.

Here’s the Commanders’ full injury report from Wednesday:

Did not participate: TE Zach Ertz (NIR, rest), S Tyler Owens (shin), DE Dorance Armstrong (rib).

Limited participants: RB Brian Robinson Jr. (knee), G Nick Allegretti (ankle), WR Noah Brown (groin), S Percy Butler (groin), DE Clelin Ferrell (knee), LB Frankie Luvu (toe), S Quan Martin (neck), WR Terry McLaurin (NIR/rest), DT Daron Payne (knee)

Commanders’ Week 6 inactive list vs. Ravens

Running back Brian Robinson Jr. headlines Commanders’ Week 6 inactives.

The Washington Commanders revealed their Week 6 inactive list ahead of the big showdown against the Baltimore Ravens. Starting running back Brian Robinson Jr. headlines the list. The Commanders ruled Robinson out on Saturday with a knee injury. Robinson leads Washington with 325 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

Austin Ekeler will receive more touches in the running game, while Jeremy McNichols will also see an increased usage. The Commanders signed second-year running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. from the practice squad.

Here is Washington’s complete inactive list vs. Baltimore:

  • RB Brian Robinson Jr.
  • G Chris Paul
  • CB Emmanuel Forbes
  • LB Dominique Hampton
  • DE Jamin Davis
  • S Tyler Owens
  • QB Jeff Driskel

With Forbes out, Washington is going light on cornerbacks, which likely means less Nickel and more traditional seven and eight-man fronts against Baltimore’s potent rushing offense and running back Derrick Henry.

Here are the Ravens’ list of inactives:

  • LB Malik Harrison
  • LB Adisa Isaac
  • C Nick Samac
  • G Sala Aumavae-Laulu
  • WR Devontez Walker
  • DE Broderick Washington

Commanders rule RB Brian Robinson Jr. out vs. Ravens

Robinson is out for Sunday, but the Commanders do get some DL help back vs. Ravens.

The Washington Commanders will be without one of their top offensive players in Sunday’s showdown with the Baltimore Ravens. Running back Brian Robinson Jr. was ruled out on Saturday afternoon.

Robinson, who is dealing with a knee injury, missed practice all week. Last week, Robinson missed practice but played in Sunday’s win over the Browns. While he only carried the ball seven times in that game, he did score two touchdowns. Robinson leads the Commanders with 325 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

Robinson’s absence means more carries for Austin Ekeler, who has been the 1b to Robinson’s 1a this season. Veteran Jeremy McNichols will continue to see an increased role. McNichols emerged in Ekeler’s absence two weeks ago, rushing for 68 yards and two touchdowns. He scored again in last week’s win over Cleveland.

As is customary before every game, the Commanders made some roster moves. Washington downgraded Robinson and rookie linebacker Jordan Magee from questionable to out. The Commanders activated defensive lineman Efe Obada from the reserve/PUP list and signed running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. and cornerback Kevon Seymour from the practice squad. This will be Rodriguez’s first game of the season. Washington elevated Seymour last week.

Commanders receive some good injury news ahead of Week 6 vs. Ravens

Brian Robinson Jr. is a game-time decision, but the Commanders get two key players back.

The Washington Commanders released their final injury report, and only one player was ruled out: Rookie safety Tyler Owens will miss the game with a shin injury. Owens has played exclusively on special teams this season and doesn’t impact Washington’s defensive depth chart.

The Commanders’ biggest injury news concerns running back Brian Robinson Jr. Washington listed the third-year running back as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Robinson didn’t practice this week with a knee injury. Robinson didn’t practice last week either, but still played in the Week 5 win over the Browns, scoring two touchdowns on just seven carries.

What did head coach Dan Quinn say about Robinson’s status?

“We’ll take another look where he is at tomorrow to see if it’s just turning for the best and see where we go,” Quinn said. “And we’ll take it all the way up through the game or up to the game with B-Rob.”

Is Quinn worried this is a long-term issue for Robinson?

“It feels more short, but anytime you’re dealing with an injury you want to make sure, is there any longevity to that? We wouldn’t put him out there if that was the case.”

Outside of Robinson, Quinn delivered good news on a pair of key contributors. Defensive end Clelin Ferrell and wide receiver Noah Brown will play on Sunday. Ferrell missed the past three games with a knee injury, while Brown missed last week. Ferrell had sacks in Washington’s first two games, while Brown was a critical piece to the Commanders’ offense.

“Yep. So, Cle was able to get some work today, so that was good,” Quinn said. “So, getting work yesterday and again today, and Noah had a really good session; we thought yesterday and did some stuff to the side today. So, both of them had good weeks.”

Robinson is a game-time decision, but if we learned anything from last week, he’ll be ready to go on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

Commanders final injury report for Week 6 vs. Ravens

Who is in and who is out for Sunday’s game between the Ravens and Commanders? Final injury report is here.

The Washington Commanders completed practice on Friday ahead of their huge Week 6 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens and ruled only one player for Sunday’s showdown.

Rookie safety Tyler Owens will miss the game with a shin injury. Owens has contributed only on special teams thus far this season.

Washington listed three players as questionable, including starting running back Brian Robinson Jr. Starting defensive end Clelin Ferrell was limited Friday but has no status for Sunday’s game, meaning he will play for the first time since Week 2. Ferrell had one sack in each of Washington’s first two games.

The Ravens listed three players as out for Friday, but in some good news for their struggling pass defense, standout cornerback Marlon Humphrey is questionable. It didn’t look good on Wednesday for Humphrey, but he has been limited over the last two days.

Here’s Sunday’s final injury report for the Ravens and Commanders:

Out: S Tyler Owens (shin)

Questionable: RB Brian Robinson Jr. (knee), LB Jordan Magee (knee), DE Efe Obada (tibia, fibula)

Baltimore Ravens

Out: LB Malik Harrison (groin),  CB Arthur Maulet (knee, hamstring),  DT Broderick Washington (knee)

Questionable: CB Marlon Humphrey (ankle), OT Ronnie Stanley (toe), WR Deonte Hardy (knee), RB Rasheen Ali (neck), G Sala Aumavae–Laulu

Commanders have one of the NFL’s top rushing duos

The Commanders rank second in the NFL in rushing offense.

Maurice Jones-Drew played in the NFL for nine years, rushing for over 8,000 yards and 68 touchdowns. He once led the league in rushing and was a two-time All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowler.

These days, Jones-Drew is an analyst on the NFL Network and, each week, ranks NFL running backs in his “RB Index.”

Ahead of Week 6, Jones-Drew ranked the top five NFL rushing duos. MJD didn’t necessarily mean a team’s top two running backs, but it could also be the quarterback and top running back.

No surprise, Jones-Drew ranked Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry at No. 1. The Ravens have the NFL’s No. 1 rushing offense, averaging over 200 yards rushing per game.

Jayden Daniels and Brian Robinson Jr. of the Washington Commanders were also ranked in the top five, at No. 4.

Like Jackson and Henry in Baltimore, Daniels and Robinson make up a devastating lightning-and-thunder duo, with the young quarterback shiftily weaving his way through open space and the 6-foot-1, 228-pound back punishing defenders when running between the tackles and at the second level. Thanks to this pair, along with contributions from Austin Ekeler and Jeremy McNichols, the Commanders boast the league’s second-best rushing offense (178.4 yards per game) and have scored the most rushing touchdowns (13, four more than any other team) through five weeks. Daniels and Robinson have combined for nine of those scores. This team has rushed for more than 200 yards in three games, though Washington faces its biggest test yet this Sunday at Baltimore, which boasts the league’s best run defense (60.4 yards per game).

Daniels has been the key to this entire operation. We knew the reigning Heisman Trophy winner had that dual-threat ability coming into the league, but I don’t think anyone expected to see him absolutely torching defenses with his arm (ranking top five in several throwing categories) and legs this early in his career. Daniels is simply electric, and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury knows it. The rookie has executed the third-most designed runs (20) among quarterbacks this season, behind only Jackson (30) and Pittsburgh’s Justin Fields (22), per Next Gen Stats. He has been OK on those plays, but he’s most efficient in scramble situations, amassing a league-high 244 yards and a touchdown on 32 attempts (7.6 yards per carry). That ability to evade pressure in the pocket and pick up big gains on the ground is what has taken this rushing attack to the next level. Daniels’ 300 rushing yards is the most by a quarterback in his first five games since 1950 — breaking the record set by former Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III (241) in 2012.

The Commanders face MJD’s top duo on Sunday. Currently, Baltimore ranks No. 1 in rushing offense, with Washington right behind at No. 2. Can the Commanders slow down Jackson and Henry enough to allow Daniels and Robinson to put up big numbers on the ground?

Commanders RB Brian Robinson Jr. will not back down from Myles Garrett

Commanders RB Brian Robinson Jr. embraces challenge of facing Browns DE Myles Garrett.

On Thursday, it looked questionable that Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. would play in Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns. He had missed two consecutive practices with a knee injury.

However, head coach Dan Quinn said Friday that Robinson was “trending” in a positive direction, something Robinson alluded to on his personal X account.

If Robinson plays, there’s a good chance he’ll go head-to-head with Browns star edge rusher Myles Garrett at some point on Sunday. Robinson takes pride in pass protection, so he will not back down if he meets Garrett.

” I attack, it really don’t matter,” Robinson said. “I don’t see names, I don’t see colors. I just see jersey numbers and I just attack. When I see him in a hole, it’s me and him. May the best man win on that rep…..it may be him, it may be me. And we may meet several times and it’s going to be the same every time.”

Some may look at this as Robinson taking a shot or challenging Garrett, which he’s clearly not doing. He was asked a question, which he answered. What did you expect him to say? Robinson is known for his physical style of play, and win or lose; he’ll give Garrett or any pass rusher his best shot if he comes after Jayden Daniels.

Commanders will be without two key players in Week 5

The Commanders received good news about their RBs, but two key players are out.

During his Friday press conference, head coach Dan Quinn revealed some positive news about the Washington Commanders’ injury situation. Running back Austin Ekeler had cleared concussion protocol and would return for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.

Also, starting running back Brian Robinson Jr. was “trending in the right way” for Week 5 after missing two days of practice with a knee injury.

Unfortunately, the Commanders will be without two key contributors.

Starting defensive end Clelin Ferrell will miss a third consecutive game with a knee injury. Ferrell had a sack in each of Washington’s first two games.

Ferrell appears close to a return and Quinn doesn’t believe he’ll need a stint on the reserve/injured list.

“There’s none, and he’s doing well man, and just the fact we’re always going to just do the best we can for these guys, and then they can absolutely do their thing at full speed,” Quinn said. “It was awesome to have him back here at practice and, so he is definitely trending in the right space, but just not quite there just yet. But he really had a good week.”

Wide receiver Noah Brown, who signed late in the summer, will also be out for Sunday. Brown has been excellent for the Commanders, catching nine passes for 111 yards in his three games and been outstanding as a blocker.

“Yeah, and we’re bummed that Noah won’t make it in for this week because he’s added a lot to our team,” Quinn said of Brown. “We’ll miss Noah for sure, man. He not only is on the pass game, but the run game, the size, he’s really made his impact so far.”

Brown’s absence could mean more opportunities for Dyami Brown and Luke McCaffrey.
