Georgia governor praises UGA’s Sedrick Van Pran

Praise rolled in for Georgia Bulldogs star center Sedrick Van Pran after his declaration for the 2024 NFL draft.

The kind sentiments weren’t limited to Dawg Nation, however, and even warranted a message from Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp.

“A class act and a DGD!,” Kemp wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Van Pran anchored Georgia’s offensive line over the last three seasons, starting all 44 games over that span.

The New Orleans native was named AP and Coaches first-team All-SEC, ESPN first-team All-American and earned the SEC Jacobs Blocking Trophy for his efforts in 2023.

Van Pran’s message to Georgia faithful exemplifies why he is so beloved by the UGA fanbase.

“To the University of Georgia, Thank you,” Van Pran wrote in an Instagram post. “You have given a kid from New Orleans a chance to live his dreams. I can not tell you how much this university will forever mean to me. My brothers who I have played with, we have been through so much! Thank you all for always having my back and being family. To my coaches I thank you for allowing me the opportunity to grow, I was never perfect but I was given the room to become a better man and person! To my family and friends, thank you for the love and amazing support. There have been many days that you all have helped me get through. Finally, to God… you are the reason I am here. I owe you everything! Through the ups and downs you have been there and pushed me to become better. I am so grateful for you! I can’t wait to see what your next steps for me are! #Willock77″

Van Pran will be one of the first centers taken off the board at the 2024 NFL draft, which will take place from April 25-27 in Detroit.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp on college football: “I want to see it played”

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp took to Twitter to give his statement on the current college football situation. Read his quotes here

With the Big Ten and Pac-12 electing to postpone their respective seasons to the spring of 2021, the SEC, ACC and Big 12 conferences are still scrambling to find a way to play football this fall.

A day after President Donald Trump said it would be a “tragic mistake” not to play football this fall, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp took to Twitter on Wednesday afternoon to give his statement on the prospect of college football in Georgia.

Kemp wrote:

“Across the South, college football is a sacred tradition, and I want to see it played this year if we can ensure the safety of players, coaches and staff.”

Kemp retweeted SEC commissioner Greg Sankey’s Tuesday tweet that came after the Big 10 and Pac-12’s postponement decision. Sankey said he “remains comfortable”, with the SEC’s approach to playing football during  the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although the league continues to deliberate how the season can go on, SEC practices are scheduled to begin Monday and, as of now, kickoff is slated for Sept. 26.
