It might only be April—and October might as well be lightyears away at this point—but when it comes to placing futures on baseball, there’s hardly ever a bad time to look ahead.

With most of the dust settled from an excruciating 99-day lockout, as well as the furious free agent frenzy that followed (you good, Michael Conforto?), it’s time to once again gaze ahead and pick some winners.

Below you’ll find our best bets for World Series champion as well as MVP, Cy Young and Rookie of the Year in each league and a few fun props we couldn’t stay away from.

Zack Godley released by Milwaukee

Former Tennessee pitcher Zack Godley released by Milwaukee Brewers.

Former University of Tennessee baseball player Zack Godley has been released by the Milwaukee Brewers.

Godley, a right-handed pitcher, signed a minor league contract by the team prior to the 2021 season.

He was assigned to Class AAA Nashville on June 24 after making one appearance for the Brewers.

The former Vol refused to report to the Sounds, opting for free agency on June 25.

Godley pitched in two games for the Brewers this season. He was promoted early in the season and pitched for Milwaukee on April 28.

Godley pitched three innings against the Marlins and surrendered four runs and one hit. He was then designated for assignment. After clearing waivers, he was outrighted to the Nashville Sounds.

The former Vol was recalled and pitched for Milwaukee in Colorado on June 20.

He lasted 0.1 innings, while giving up three runs and three hits against the Rockies. Godley was 0-1 with a 16.20 ERA, posting five strikeouts during his time with the Brewers.

Godley, who pitched for the Volunteers in 2013, has pitched for Arizona, Boston and Toronto before being picked up by the Milwaukee organization.

Milwaukee Brewers at Pittsburgh Pirates odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s Milwaukee Brewers at Pittsburgh Pirates sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Milwaukee Brewers (2-2) rallied from a 5-1 deficit against the Pittsburgh Pirates (1-3) on Monday, and will look to make it two in a row when the NL Central rivals square off at PNC Park in Pittsburgh at 7:05 p.m. ET Tuesday. We analyze the Brewers-Pirates betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

Brewers at Pirates: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Josh Lindblom vs. LHP Derek Holland

Lindblom was a mediocre pitcher in the majors from 2011-14, and again briefly in 2017. Overall, he owns a 4.10 ERA, and after spending most of the past five seasons in Korea, he’s back to make his seventh career MLB start.

  • Lindblom was a dominant starter in the KBO (Korean Baseball Organization) the past two seasons. He was so good that he took home MVP honors last year after going 20-3 with a 2.50 ERA across 30 starts.
  • His 8.7 K/9 ratio from 2019 (and 8.4 in 2018) may not jump off the page, but his 189 K’s led the KBO last year and he was third among all starters (minimum 10 starts) in K/9.

Derek Holland will be making his Pittsburgh debut. The lefty looks to rebound from a disappointing 2019 season – pitching for the Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants – in which he recorded a 6.08 ERA in 84 1/3 innings.

  • Even in a down year, Holland was effective against LHB, holding them to a .528 OPS in 114 plate appearances. However, RHB were a different story, as they knocked him around to the tune of a .997 OPS.
  • Holland is 1-0 with a 1.74 ERA (4 ER, 20 2/3 IP) in 11 career appearances, including two starts vs. Milwaukee. He has made three appearances at PNC Park in his career, allowing just three earned runs in 12 innings, while striking out 14.

Prediction

Brewers 8, Pirates 4

Moneyline (ML)

The Brewer offense had been very quiet until the very end of Monday’s game. Milwaukee shouldn’t have much trouble putting runs on the board against Holland in this one.

Lindblom is a bit of a question mark, but he has put up excellent numbers in each of the last two seasons, albeit against lesser competition in the KBO. He gets a pretty good matchup in this one, so take the BREWERS (-176).

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Brewers at -176 would net a profit of $5.68 – or every $1.76 wagered will profit $1 if they win.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The Brewers are -1.5 (-125), and considering how poorly Holland pitched throughout 2019, they should be able to win by at least two runs. Take the BREWERS (-125).

Over/Under (O/U)

Lindblom is likely to be a decent pitcher in his return to the majors, but won’t come anywhere close to the numbers he posted while in Korea. The Pirates probably won’t get completely shut down, and as noted above, the Milwaukee offense could erupt for a big game. A small bet on the OVER 10 (-110) looks like the smart play here.

Saturday: The Brewers won 8-3 to even the series after getting 3-hit by Kyle Hendricks in Friday’s 3-0 loss.

Brewers at Cubs: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Freddy Peralta vs. RHP Tyler Chatwood

Peralta in 2019: 7-3, 5.29 ERA in 39 games (8 starts)

  • 2019 starts: 2-2, 7.07 (28 ER, 35 2/3 IP)

Prediction

Cubs 9, Brewers 6

Moneyline (ML)

The CUBS (-115) are the STRONGEST PLAY vs. the Brewers (+105). Peralta struggled in his lone career appearance at Wrigley Field, giving up 2 ER in 2/3 innings of relief last August. Of the 7 batters he faced, Peralta walked 3 and allowed 2 singles. Look for the 24-year-old Dominican to suffer the same fate.

New to sports betting? A winning $10 bet on Chicago will return a profit of $8.70 – or every $1.15 bet on Chicago will profit $1 if it wins.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Place a small bet on the CUBS (-1.5, +155) on the alternate run line. The first two games were won by 3 and 5 runs, respectively. I like the chances of the finale going the same route – avoiding a one-run game.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET OVER 12 (-110). Expect a fun one at the “Friendly Confines,” where neither starting pitcher makes it through 5 innings.

Milwaukee Brewers at Chicago Cubs odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Milwaukee Brewers at Chicago Cubs sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Milwaukee Brewers (0-1) visit the Chicago Cubs (1-0) in a Saturday matinee at Wrigley Field with first pitch coming at 1:05 p.m. ET. We analyze the Brewers-Cubs MLB betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks and best bets around the matchup.

Brewers at Cubs: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Corbin Burnes vs. RHP Yu Darvish

Burnes: 8.82 ERA in 32 games (4 starts) in 2019

  • Burnes has a wicked, swing-and-miss slider and is an interesting strikeout candidate, if nothing else, in 2020.
  • The right-hander yields a bit too much hard contact; today’s weather calls for a light breeze blowing out to left field. Not a good mix.

Darvish: 3.98 ERA, 11.5 strikeouts per nine innings over 31 starts in 2019

  • Darvish faced Milwaukee twice last season, pounding the strike zone and allowing just one run over 10 innings.
  • Current Brewers bats own a strikeout-heavy .599 OPS against the 33-year-old right-hander.

Moneyline (ML)

Chicago figures to be a more dangerous offense against right-handers, and they were sharp in home games a year ago. The price on the Cubs – the favorite here – has matured to a -143 and has bounced around even higher. But CHICAGO (-143) is still the lean.

Consider grabbing them with a partial-unit play and waiting out a possible price drop as first pitch approaches. Then, ideally, finish off the bet with a lower-priced play.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

A CHICAGO -1.5 (+135) bet is worthy of being one of your lesser plays on the day.

Over/Under (O/U)

Games at Wrigley Field are often totaled closer to first pitch, as oddsmakers assess weather Windy City breezes of the day are those favoring batters or pitchers. Today’s game looks to be tagged a bit low at the outset. GET IN ON THE OVER 9.5 (-110) if you can get the straight -110 price.

2020 MLB Futures Odds: How many games will the Milwaukee Brewers win?

Looking at 2020 MLB futures odds for how many games the Milwaukee Brewers will win in the 60-game MLB season.

How many games will the Milwaukee Brewers win in the 60-game 2020 MLB season? We look at the Brewers MLB futures odds, including their projected 2020 win total and Over/Under odds at BetMGM, and make our best bet.

Milwaukee Brewers’ 2019 recap

Behind yet another MVP-caliber season by OF Christian Yelich, the Brewers put together a nice campaign in 2019 by going 89-73 and making the playoffs as a wild-card team. They lost to the eventual World Series champion Washington Nationals in the wild-card round, but Milwaukee still had an encouraging season.

The Brewers finished 45-31 in the NL Central, but they weren’t very good against the spread (81-81 ATS).

Milwaukee Brewers’ offseason

The Brewers’ biggest signing was OF Avasail Garcia. They also brought in 1B Justin Smoak and utility player Brock Holt, and acquired C Omar Navaez from the Mariners.

They lost SPs Chase Anderson and Zach Davies in trades, however, as well as C Yasmani Grandal and 3B Mike Moustakas to free agency.

Milwaukee Brewers’ 2020 schedule

The Brewers’ 60-game schedule will consist of 40 games against the National League Central and 20 against the American League Central. The season will begin July 24 and conclude Sept. 27.

Their stiffest competition will be the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals in the division, and they’ll have tough matchups with the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Indians in the AL.

How many games will the Milwaukee Brewers win in 2020?

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Tuesday, July 7 at noon ET.

The Brewers are projected to finish right around .500, according to BetMGM, with their Over/Under line set at 30.5 wins. This is a team with a ton of potential, but also plenty of question marks, particularly in the rotation.

Yelich won’t be able to carry this team on his own, and with the players they saw depart this offseason, it’ll be hard for them to make the playoffs. I’d take the UNDER (-110).

Milwaukee Brewers’ World Series odds

The Brewers’ odds to win the World Series sit at +4000, which is in the bottom half of the league. They’re simply not deep enough or talented enough to contend for a championship this year, so I’d pass.

Milwaukee Brewers’ playoff odds

The Brewers have the fourth-best odds to win the NL Central at +300. It’s a fairly tightly contested division, but even still, the Brewers are going to have a hard time reaching the playoffs by way of a division title. The Cubs or Cardinals at +240 are a better bet in the NL Central.

How many games will the Milwaukee Brewers win in 2020?

Analyzing the Milwaukee Brewers’ projected win total for the 2020 MLB season, along with their odds to win the NL Central and World Series.

The Milwaukee Brewers will take aim at a third straight trip to the postseason in 2020. A return to health for OF Christian Yelich will be the biggest key after he missed the final part of the 2019 campaign, including the National League Wild Card Game against the Washington Nationals. Today, we focus on the Brewers’ 2020 regular-season win total and World Series odds. Do the Brewers have what it takes? Let’s analyze:

Milwaukee Brewers 2019 wins

The Brewers finished 2019 at 89-73 and second in the NL Central behind the St. Louis Cardinals. They lost 4-3 to the eventual World Series champion Nationals in the single-game wild-card matchup in Washington.

Milwaukee finished the regular season with a plus-3 run differential, a home record of 49-32 and a 40-41 mark on the road.

Milwaukee Brewers offseason

The Brewers’ main offseason move was the trade acquisition of 2B Luis Urias from the San Diego Padres in exchange for OF Trent Grisham. They signed free agents Eric SogardJustin Smoak and Avisail Garcia. The starting rotation was largely untouched and will be the biggest question heading into the season.

Milwaukee Brewers odds to win NL West division

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Lines last updated Friday at 1 p.m. ET.

The Brewers head into the season with the third-best odds to win the NL Central at +260. The St. Louis Cardinals (+210) remain the favorites, while the Chicago Cubs (+250) are expected to be back in the mix after a disappointing 2019 campaign. The upstart Cincinnati Reds are in the running at +380, but the Pittsburgh Pirates are heavy longshots at +6500.

The Brewers last won the division in 2018 and are a good bet in 2020 at nearly a 3-1 return on the investment after finishing just two games back of the Cards last season.

Milwaukee Brewers World Series odds

The Brewers have the second-longest odds to win the 2020 World Series among last season’s playoff teams at +2200. Only the Oakland Athletics, +2500, are viewed as bigger longshots to win it all.

It makes the Brewers a reasonable value, as teams like the Philadelphia Phillies (+1800) and New York Mets (+2000) have better odds after failing to qualify for the National League playoffs last year.

How many games will the Brewers win in 2020?

Take the OVER 83.5 (+110) at plus-money. The 2020 projection is 5.5 wins below the Brewers’ 2019 total, and they’re just two years removed from a 96-win 2018 campaign, which saw them capture the NL Central title.

Manager Craig Counsell proved to be one of the best in the game at handling pitching usage last year. Look for it to be another strength of the Brewers in 2020.
