Brennan Rigsby enters the transfer portal, leaving Oregon basketball

Brenna Rigsby is the first Duck to enter the transfer portal this offseason.

Brennan Rigsby, a junior guard for the Oregon Ducks men’s basketball team, has entered the transfer portal after two seasons as a Duck. Rigsby previously played a season at North Florida State College, so he has a year of eligibility remaining.

In his two seasons in Eugene, Rigsby played in 57 games, averaging 5.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and an assist per game, while shooting 40.6% from the field. His numbers improved from year one to year two as well, averaging 6.1 points per game in the 2023-24 season.

Where Rigsby struggled was on the defensive end. His defense improved throughout the past season, but he still showed inconsistencies when stopping opposing guards at the point of attack and closing out shooters.

A week and a half ago, after the Ducks’ loss to Creighton in the round of 32 of the NCAA tournament, Rigsby spoke to Oregonian reporter James Crepea about his future and said he wanted to stay at Oregon in 2024.

“Oregon is definitely a place I want to be.”

But in the modern landscape of college athletics, players don’t always have full autonomy in the transfer process, and they can sometimes be forced into the portal. It’s unclear whether that happened with Rigsby, but in the context of his comments at the end of the season, it’s a possibility.

Next season, the Ducks’ backcourt will look much different than it did this season, and as it stands, Oregon doesn’t have much guard depth. Jermaine Couisnard is out of eligibility, the Ducks lost incoming 4-star recruit Vyctorius Miller, and now Rigsby is on the way out.

We’ll still Jackson Shelstad will still be bringing the ball up next year, and Keeshawn Barthelemy has announced that he’ll be back in the fall, but other than that, Oregon doesn’t have many options. Dana Altman will surely explore options in the transfer portal, where he can hopefully find suitable replacements.

Report: Brennan Rigsby, Jadrian Tracey open up about futures in Oregon

Guard Brennan Rigsby and small forward Jadrian Tracey are set to play in Eugene for the 2024-25 season.

The Oregon Ducks men’s basketball season ended with a second-round loss to Creighton in double overtime and the off-season has officially begun.

Players are going to start to announce their future plans and the first Ducks to announce their intentions is guard Brennan Rigsby and Jadrian Tracey. According to James Crepea of The Oregonian, both players plan to stick around for one more season.

“Oregon is definitely a place I want to be,” Rigsby said.

Tracey repeated Rigsby sentiment as he said he wants to return to Eugene for the 2024-25 season. Both players will be seniors.

Head coach Dana Altman has repeatedly said that he wants players who want to be at Oregon and earn their degrees. It looks like Rigsby and Tracey are two of those types of players.

For the 2023-24 season, Rigsby, a De Beque, Colo. native played in all 36 games, starting 13 and averaged six points per contest. Rigsby also shot 35 percent from the field.

Tracey came to Oregon via SouthWestern Community College in Florida. He played in all 36 games, started 22 contests where Tracey averaged 7.6 points a game, and shot 36 percent from the three-point line.

MBB Recap: Oregon shoots its way past Washington State

MBB Recap: Oregon shoots its way past Washington State 89-84 in Pullman.

No one is going to mistake this game for a defensive clinic.

Not by a long shot.

But it was long shots that propelled the Oregon Ducks men’s basketball team to an 89-84 win at Washington State Saturday night. The Ducks are now 12-3 overall and 4-0 in league action after this road sweep of the Washington schools.

The Ducks shot an amazing 58 percent from the field (32-of-55) and 14-of-24 from three-point land (58 percent).

Oregon held the lead throughout the game and whenever the Cougars attempted to make a run, the Ducks would nail a three-pointer to end the momentum for the home team.

Jadrian Tracey’s three with less than a minute left gave the Ducks an 87-82 lead with 40 seconds left. While there was still plenty of time for WSU, that three as the shot clock was running down turned out to be the nail in the Cougars’ coffin.

Brennan Rigsby led the way with 18 points in just 20 minutes time on the floor. He was 4-of-5 from long distance.

MBB Recap: Jackson Shelstad walks off the win for Oregon against Michigan

My instant reactions to the Oregon Ducks’ down-to-the-wire win over the Michigan Wolverines

On Saturday afternoon, The Oregon Ducks men’s basketball team hosted the Michigan Wolverines for what would become a classic game. The game was tight all the way through, and it took an overtime buzzer-beater for Oregon to leave with the win

Near the end of regulation, Oregon was down. But after Michigan went 1 of 2 from the free throw line, Kario Oquendo drew a foul and made some clutch free throws to tie the game with 15 seconds to go. After Michigan inbounded the ball, Jadrian Tracey forced Michigan guard Dug McDaniel to the sideline and knocked the ball out of bounds off of McDaniel. Oregon couldn’t convert on their chance to win in regulation and the game went to overtime.

Overtime was just as close. With 39 seconds left, Michigan was down two points but nailed a shot to tie the game. With 22 seconds left, the Ducks didn’t move the ball well, but with the clock running out true freshman Jackson Shelstad splashed a three from way downtown to walk off for the win.

Below, check out all my instant reactions to the Ducks win over Michigan.

Oregon MBB Recap: Ducks pick up convincing win over WSU to open up Pac-12 play

The Ducks got a convincing win over Washington State to open up Pac-12 play on Thursday night, led by a career-high 22 points from N’Faly Dante.

After a gritty performance at the Phil Knight Invitational tournament in Portland last week, where the Oregon Ducks were undermanned and often over-matched, they got back into a semblance of a rhythm to start Pac-12 play on Thursday night at Matthew Knight Arena.

It resulted in a 74-60 win over the Washington State Cougars.

What was a back-and-forth game for the first 30 minutes of game-time quickly turned into a comfortable win for the Ducks. It was N’Faly Dante who led the way for Oregon, scoring a career-high 22 points while pulling down 7rebounds. Players like Will Richardson and Quincy Guerrier were also key offensive contributors, while Rivaldo Soares dominated on the glass, and JUCO transfer Brennan Rigsby made his Oregon debut with a much-needed burst of energy that seemed to like the Ducks.

While the start of the season has been a slog for Oregon, battling numerous injuries and struggling to find any sort of consistency on the court, it feels like Thursday night was a much-needed positive start to conference play.

Here are some of the biggest things you need to know about the game:

‘We’re gonna do great things;’ 5-star Oregon signee Kel’el Ware preview time with Ducks

Kel’el Ware seems confident that lining him up next to Dior Johnson, Tyrone Williams, and Brennan Rigsby is going to be successful in Eugene.

On Tuesday night, the McDonald’s All-American game tips off, giving some of the best men’s and women’s basketball players in the nation a chance to showcase their talents and give a preview for what is to come when they hit the floor at the next level.

For fans of the Oregon Ducks, 2022 signee Kel’el Ware was named to the team, as were both Change Gray and Grace VanSlooten. Ware was asked on Tuesday to preview his time at Oregon and quickly discuss what he and the other members of the class — Dior Johnson, Tyrone Williams, and Brennan Rigsby — are going to bring to the table for the Ducks next season.

“We’re going to to great things,” Ware said. “Just with me, Dior, you’ve got T-Will coming in, and then you’ve got Brennan — I feel like with him being able to shoot, and then T-Will being able to slash, and he’s got a shot on him too as well. Dior being a floor general, and then me at the big, it’s just, I feel like we’re going to be able to do great things.”

Johnson is a fellow 5-star recruit who is ranked as the No. 4 point guard in the nation, and No. 23 player overall. Williams is ranked as the No. 2 JUCO transfer this season, and Rigsby is coming off of a JUCO national championship where he led his team in scoring with 24 points in the final game.

The current roster at Oregon is in a bit of a flux with some unknowns about whether players are staying or leaving, but it’s clear through all of it that the incoming talent is going to be special in Eugene.

Oregon Ducks land commitment from JUCO transfer Brennan Rigsby

The Ducks landed a JUCO transfer on Wednesday, with Brennan Rigsby announcing his commitment to Oregon.

The Oregon Ducks basketball team was able to add a piece to their future roster on Wednesday, with 6-foot-3 guard Brennan Rigsby announcing his transfer to the Ducks.

Rigsby will be coming from Northwest Florida State College where he has played for the past season, averaging 11 points per game. Rigsby will have three years of eligibility remaining.

After his year at NWFS, Rigsby got offers from Oklahoma, Wichita State, Georgia, and Oregon to transfer. He ended up choosing the Ducks, where he will join 5-star PG Dior Johnson and 5-star C Kel’el Ware in the 2022 class.

Rigsby will be taking a visit to Eugene later this month to see the campus and meet the coaching staff, according to On3 Sports.
