Pete Carroll’s son Brennan Carroll is Arizona OC, but will not be Jedd Fisch’s replacement in Tucson

Pete Carroll’s son was a prominent name in the Arizona head coaching search, but another candidate got the job instead.

It was never likely that Pete Carroll would actually be hired by the Arizona Wildcats for their football head coach position. However, Carroll’s son, Brennan, is still the offensive coordinator in Tucson. He was being considered for the vacancy left by Jedd Fisch, who left for the University of Washington.

Brent Brennan, the head coach at San Jose State, was always a likely candidate for the Arizona job alongside Brennan Carroll. Who else might have Arizona considered? That was an open question. In the meantime, though, the Wildcats moved quickly and got a big-time hire.

Brent Brennan’s hire was reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Tuesday morning.

We will soon see if Brennan is someone who can prevent Jedd Fisch from taking U of A players with him to Seattle. Brennan will try to retain players from the roster and give the Wildcats a chance to compete with Utah for the 2024 Big 12 title.

Notre Dame football: 11 offensive coordinators candidates to replace Gerad Parker

Who do you want to be Notre Dame’s next offensive coordinator?

Paint it any way you want it, but Notre Dame football landed great news on Monday.  Offensive coordinator Gerad Parker was named Troy’s new head coach.

No, it’s not ideal that Notre Dame will now be on their third offensive play caller in the past four seasons, but its a spot the Irish coaching staff could upgrade and now they’re forced to.

Reports are out from various outlets that Marcus Freeman has his eyes on a certain external candidate.  Who exactly that is may be remains to be seen.  And just because Freeman may have his eye on someone doesn’t mean that its all a race for one guy.

So who are some names to keep an eye on in regards to Notre Dame’s next offensive coordinator?  We’ve compiled 11.

Brennan Carroll leaving for University of Arizona after season ends

Seattle Seahawks running game coordinator Brennan Carroll is heading to the University of Arizona following the culmination of the season.

Seattle Seahawks running game coordinator Brennan Carroll will be leaving the organization soon, as he has accepted the job of offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for the University of Arizona’s football program.

The son of Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, Carroll served as an offensive line coach for Seattle for five years before taking on the duties of run game coordinator for the 2020 season. Coach Carroll commented on the situation, expressing his appreciation for his son’s work in the Emerald City over the years, but that working with Arizona head coach Jedd Fisch is an opportunity Brennan simply couldn’t pass up.

“I’m real grateful – Brennan and I are both really grateful for having a chance to be that close to our family, kind of intact for a while here,” Carroll said Friday.

“We’ve cherished it and dreaded the time it was going to come. He’s had a couple chances at other times, and we were able to keep him here, but this one is just right with the right guy with Jedd Fisch and all that,” Carroll continued. “And he’s really excited about it, so we’re excited for him. But we’ve been very lucky to have this kind of connection that we’ve had, and he’s done an incredibly good job for us. I’ve loved having him here.”

Carroll will stay with the Seahawks until their season ends, which will hopefully involve the Lombardi Trophy being hoisted by the blue and green once again.

Seahawks assistant coach Steve Shimko hired by Boston College

Seattle Seahawks assistant quarterbacks coach Steve Shimko took a job coaching tight ends at Boston College on Friday.

The Seattle Seahawks coaching shakeup has already begun as we head into the 2020 season.

Steve Shimko, who was an offensive assistant in 2018 and assistant quarterbacks coach last year, has been hired by Boston College to be their tight end coach. The move was announced by Boston College on Friday.

Shimko spent two years with the Seahawks, coming over after a successful stint as the offensive coordinator at Garden City Community College.

He also has successful stints at the University of Georgia (alongside Seahawks offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer) and Western Michigan.

Shimko was a quarterback at Rutgers from 2009-2012, but his career was cut short due to injury and he began his path into coaching as a graduate assistant shortly after that.

The Seahawks may lose another coach, Brennan Carroll – Pete Carroll’s son – to Hawaii, as they look the reshape some of their ranks following an 11-5 season and a heartbreaking exit in the NFC Divisional Round of the playoffs in 2019.

Pete Carroll’s son is a candidate for Hawaii head coaching job

Brennan Carroll, a longtime Seattle Seahawks assistant and son of head coach Pete Carroll, is a candidate to be Hawaii’s next head coach.

Seattle Seahawks assistant offensive line coach Brennan Carroll, son of head coach Pete Carroll, has emerged as a candidate for Hawaii’s head coaching vacancy, according to Fox Sports reporter Bruce Feldman.

Hawaii is in need of a new head coach after Nick Rolovich replaced Mike Leach at Washington State University, after Leach left for Mississippi State.

Carroll played tight end at the University of Pittsburgh from 1999-2001 before joining USC as a Graduate Assistant in 2002, under his dad.

Carroll ended up serving a variety of different roles while at USC, including tight end coach and eventually recruiting coordinator, before he was let go by new coach Lane Kiffin, who came in to replace Pete Carroll after he went to Seattle.

Carroll then spent four seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Miami, coaching tight ends and wide receivers while also leading the recruiting charge, before he joined the Seahawks in 2015 as an assistant offensive line coach, a role he still holds today – for now.
