Five-star PG Kylan Boswell reclassifies, will join Arizona this season

The Arizona men’s basketball team will get the services of five-star point guard Kylan Boswell a year earlier than expected.

After losing three players to the NBA draft, the University of Arizona Wildcats were staring down the barrel of a retooling. Their 2022 class had three high school players ranked highly by 247Sports, but it could still use some more bite to compete with some of the schools who recruited the top-ranked players.

On Wednesday, the Wildcats got that bite. Five-star point guard Kylan Boswell, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound player at Compass Prep (Chandler, Ariz.) announced that he has reclassified from the class of 2023 to the class of 2022.

He will be eligible to play for Arizona this coming season.

His father, Brandon Boswell, told 247Sports that the guard will play as a backup and get acclimated to college.

“We think that for his development we want to get him into that environment now and do what he needs to do to be able to help there and get ready for what is potentially a professional career,” the dad said to the recruiting outlet.

Arizona’s class now consists of Dylan Anderson, a 7-foot-tall, four-star local Arizona high school player; Serbian wing Filip Borovicanin, a Serbian who is ranked as a four-star player on 247Sports but not ranked on the site’s composite; and center Henri Veesaar, ranked 247Sports’ No. 35 player in the class but is unranked on the composite.

The Wildcats also have two transfer players in Courtney Ramey (Texas) and Cedric Henderson Jr. (Campbell).

Boswell is ranked as the No. 24 player in the class of 2022 by 247Sports.

Rob Gronkowski catches world-record pass dropped from helicopter

How did Rob Gronkowski set a world record at the Arizona spring game?

Rob Gronkowski was back his old college stomping grounds at the University of Arizona on Saturday.

The all-word NFL tight end added another chapter to his marvelous resume.

How about one catch for 200 yards and no touchdown but a world record?

Yep, on the day of the Wildcats’ spring game, Gronkowski and former New England Patriots’  teammate Tedy Bruschi were the honorary head coaches.

And Gronk was called upon to make the longest grab of his football life. He even came out in pads and the No. 48 jersey Gronk wore while playing in college as a Wildcat.

There was a helicopter hovering 600 feet over the field — give or take 40 feet if you listen to the voice from the chopper — and a football was thrown to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ tight end.

With those great hands, what else would he do other than catch it and set a world record?

Brennan Carroll leaving for University of Arizona after season ends

Seattle Seahawks running game coordinator Brennan Carroll is heading to the University of Arizona following the culmination of the season.

Seattle Seahawks running game coordinator Brennan Carroll will be leaving the organization soon, as he has accepted the job of offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for the University of Arizona’s football program.

The son of Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, Carroll served as an offensive line coach for Seattle for five years before taking on the duties of run game coordinator for the 2020 season. Coach Carroll commented on the situation, expressing his appreciation for his son’s work in the Emerald City over the years, but that working with Arizona head coach Jedd Fisch is an opportunity Brennan simply couldn’t pass up.

“I’m real grateful – Brennan and I are both really grateful for having a chance to be that close to our family, kind of intact for a while here,” Carroll said Friday.

“We’ve cherished it and dreaded the time it was going to come. He’s had a couple chances at other times, and we were able to keep him here, but this one is just right with the right guy with Jedd Fisch and all that,” Carroll continued. “And he’s really excited about it, so we’re excited for him. But we’ve been very lucky to have this kind of connection that we’ve had, and he’s done an incredibly good job for us. I’ve loved having him here.”

Carroll will stay with the Seahawks until their season ends, which will hopefully involve the Lombardi Trophy being hoisted by the blue and green once again.

Watch: University of Arizona hires Patriots’ QB coach Jedd Fisch

The University of Arizona has hired a New England Patriots assistant Jedd Fisch as its head football coach

The University of Arizona has reached into the pro ranks — and Bill Belichick coaching tree — to replace the fired Kevin Sumlin.

New England Patriots quarterbacks coach Jedd Fisch as named as coach of the Wildcats on Wednesday.

“We are tremendously excited to have Jedd Fisch come to Tucson to reinvigorate our football program and lead us to championships,” Arizona athletic director Dave Heeke said in a statement. “Jedd has a unique ability to teach the game of football effectively to his players and to inspire them with his passion. We conducted a comprehensive national search with an impressive array of candidates but in the end, Jedd is exactly what our program needs right now and I cannot wait to partner with him to move us forward.”

The 44-year-old Fisch has been a part of championship seasons throughout his career, including with the Los Angeles Rams as a member of head coach Sean McVay’s staff as the Rams won the NFC championship and appeared in Super Bowl LIII. Fisch’s coaching pedigree also includes working under future NFL Hall of Famers Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll, as well as college football Hall of Fame member Steve Spurrier and Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh.

“I am honored and humbled to lead the University of Arizona football program,” said Fisch. “I am 100% committed to building a program that all Wildcat fans will be proud to support. We will study hard, compete hard, recruit hard and be relentless in all aspects of our program.”

Arizona went 9-20 — 6-17 in the Pac-12 — with no bowl appearances under Sumlin and lost all three games to Arizona State.

University of Arizona president on college football this fall: ‘I just don’t see that happening’

The college football season is set to start about four months from now. But, even if students are on campus this fall, one power five program still may not take the field.

Latest mock draft has OKC taking Arizona’s Josh Green in first round

In his latest mock NBA Draft, Sam Vecenie of The Athletic has the Thunder taking Arizona freshman Josh Green with the No. 25 overall pick.

With the 2019-20 season on indefinite hiatus, now is as good a time as any to take a look ahead to 2020-21 and the players that could be added to the Oklahoma City roster via the NBA Draft.

As of now, the draft is still scheduled for June 25, although a report from CBS Sports indicates that many believe it will be pushed back.

Uncertainty is the only thing that is certain regarding the NBA right now, something that Sam Vecenie of The Athletic pointed out when putting together in his latest mock NBA Draft.

One of the things that Vecenie said is that he expects more underclassman to return to school than to declare this year given the circumstances, however despite that statement, Vecenie still has the Thunder taking Josh Green, a 6-foot-6 freshman out of Arizona with the No. 25 overall pick.

He averaged 12 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists, and does play very tough, physical on-ball defense. But I’m a little worried about the offensive side of the floor. He hit 36.1 percent of his 3-point attempts, but I’m pretty skeptical of the jump shooting mechanics. He has an exaggerated elbow bend that he’ll need to fix to get a consistent release. The good news is that he hit 78 percent of his free throws, so if he can iron the mechanics out, he does have the requisite touch.

Vecenie also noted that while Green has had some struggles in a halfcourt set, taking on a player who excels defensively while needing a little help on offense is somewhat of an “Oklahoma City special”.

The Thunder tends to love these wings who can’t shoot and do all of the little things while providing a lot of defensive value. Green is also Australian, and tends to play with the same kind of fiery intensity as many players from Down Under, so that would also be appealing to Sam Presti, who tends to value athletic, frame and mentality traits above all.

Green, a 5-star recruit out of IMG Academy, was a 2019 McDonald’s All-American and consensus top 15 prospect out of high school before enrolling at Arizona.

Check out some of his highlights:
