Dear Breece Hall, The Jets rank No. 30 in rush yards per game

The New York Jets rank No. 30 in rush yards per game this season and only one player has taken the majority of the carries.

Through 65 carries, Jets running back Breece Hall has produced 197 total rush yards at a rate of three yards per carry. For contrast, his reserve Braelon Allen has a total of  143 yards on just 32 carries.

It’s very simple mathematics, yet somehow, former coordinator Nathaniel Hackett kept Allen minimalized through the first six weeks of the season.

Sure, it isn’t all Hall’s fault. Hackett’s clueless play calling had Hall plunging the a-gap, where his undersized frame yielded a disadvantage.

Hall is best when he is used in the counter game, outside zones, or as a pass catcher out of the backfield and interim coach Todd Downing needs to make the adjustment versus the Buffalo Bills.

As for Allen, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich is too prudent to ignore the signs anymore. Expect Ulbrich to get both Hall and Allen the touches they need on Monday night.

3 keys to a Jets victory vs. the Bills in Week 6

3 keys to a Jets victory vs. the Bills in Week 6

The New York Jets will hope to add a win to their record in 2024 in Week 5. The team will face the Buffalo Bills at home on “Monday Night Football.”

As usual, it will never be a walk in the park in the NFL. If the Jets (2-3) expect to beat the Bills (3-2), there will be a few key things New York will have to focus on against Buffalo.

It will have to be a full-team effort, make no mistake. But these factors could weigh heavy on whether or not New York leave with a win or loss.

Here are three keys to the Jets pulling out a victory against the Bills:

Give Aaron Time

(USAT)

This has been a rinse and repeat one each week at this rate. The Jets offensive line has to give quarterback Aaron Rodgers time to do anything. He’s been on the run too often this season, just like last week during New York’s 23-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Get Breece going

(Getty)

The offensive line has to help here, too. The Jets rushing attack has continued struggles each week. That makes things tough on the entire offense. New York becomes predictable and an opposing defense takes advantage of it… especially one like Buffalo’s and their stout secondary.

Force Josh into mistakes

(USAT)

The Bills lost to the Houston Texans last week. The one thing everyone saw quarterback Josh Allen was still capable of? Playing a lot of “hero ball.” If the Jets’ front-seven can pressure Allen, he’s going to chuck balls up for the cornerbacks Sauce Gardner and DJ Reed to take away.

Jets vs. Bills: 3 key matchups to watch in Week 6

Jets vs. Bills: 3 key matchups to watch in Week 6

The New York Jets will face the Buffalo Bills in their upcoming Week 6 matchup.

Even with it being an AFC East clash, it will still be the games, within the game, that will make all the difference.

Here are three key matchups to watch during Monday’s Jets (2-3) against the Bills (3-2) matchup:

DE Micheal Clemons vs. OL Dion Dawkins

(USAT)

Let’s be honest, this is all about off the field.

In the past, Dawkins and Clemons have had flare ups during games. It has turned into a war of words at times.

Most recently, Dawkins had a laugh on social media about the Jets firing head coach Robert Saleh this week. These two might have some fireworks between them.

CB Sauce Gardner vs. WR Keon Coleman

(Imagn)

The Jets have an excellent secondary. The Bills do not have many weapons around quarterback Josh Allen and their top target, wide receiver Khalil Shakir (ankle), might not play.

Whether it’s Gardner or DJ Reed, they should feast on Coleman. Buffalo’s second-round rookie receiver has had a few moments in his career but not many. No big breakout games.

RB Breece Hall vs. LB Terrel Bernard

(Getty)

Like the Bills offense, the Jets struggled on that side of the ball last week as well. However, New York’s issues have been going on for most of the NFL season. The reason why is easy to see.

It will be a full-defensive effort to stop a rushing attack. But Bernard leads that unit. When New York can’t run the ball, quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been forced into mistakes because their game plan becomes predictable. That will play into the Bills’ hand as their secondary is very good, too.

Salutations to Saleh but Jets’ interim HC Jeff Ulbrich is an upgrade

Salutations to Saleh but Jets’ interim HC Jeff Ulbrich is an upgrade

Goodbye Robert Saleh, and hello to the man that should be credited with maintaining team chemistry in the New York Jets locker room.

Interim HC Jeff Ulbrich has instilled a military mindset into a Jets’ defense that ranks No. 3 in opponent touchdowns allowed per game. The pre-game gatherings of defensive back Sauce Gardner and company stems from the ferocious leadership of Ulbrich who has helped ignite the potential of many, including D.J Reed and defensive end Will McDonald.

Unlike Saleh, Ulbrich won’t allow for offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett to ruin momentum with mundane play-calling. Sure, Hackett may have survived this round of bingo, but with Ulbrich in charge Jets’ fans will see an increased amount of scrutiny applied to Hackett. Therein lies the underlying disdain of Saleh amongst Jets’ fans, his unwillingness to correct the offensive approach.

Ulbrich led as defensive coordinator with real humility, being sure to refrain from meddling with the offensive personnel and forbidding from stepping on Hackett’s toes. During Sunday’s loss, NFL Network reporters conveyed that there had been a quiet aura on the Jets’ sideline and this may suggest that a growing division may have been emerging.

Ultimately, Ulbrich is an upgrade and if he can help change the offensive strategy, the Jets still have a chance in 2024.

Jets’ running game ‘clearly not good enough’ in loss to Vikings

Jets’ running game ‘clearly not good enough’ in loss to Vikings

It was another poor effort on the ground for the New York Jets offense against the Minnesota Vikings.

Out in London during their Week 5 matchup, the Jets only mustered up 36 rushing yards in the 23-17 loss.

Head coach Robert Saleh was direct about the struggles.

“The run game is clearly not good enough,” Saleh said.

Top running back Breece Hall led New York with 23 yards on the ground on nine carries. That was good for a 2.6 yards per carry average.

“I mean, it is what it is. At the end of the day, I just want to win,” Hall said via video conference. “If you don’t run for 100 yards, people will think you suck or whatever.”‘

That poor display running the ball came after the Jets had only 64 in Week 4 in a loss to the Denver Broncos. Hall had 10 carries for four yards in that one.

For more from Saleh on the running woes, see the attached clip below:

The New York Jets should modify their usage of HB Breece Hall

The New York Jets should modify their usage of HB Breece Hall

New York Jets running back Breece Hall averaged a horrid 0.4 yards per carry versus the stingy Denver Broncos defense in week 4.

As previously stated, Hall might not be the best running back on the Jets’ depth chart, especially when the team needs those tough yards on early downs, and inside the hashes in the a red-zone. Rookie Braelon Allen however, who finished the game with a 4.2 yards per carry average, has merited more reps.

With a chance to ignite the home fans at Met life Stadium in the first half, offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett watched Hall get stuffed on two consecutive red-zone plays, stalling out a drive that started in plus territory.

Hall’s dynamics are above exceptional, but work ideally on outside zone run plays, screens, and finesse like concepts. Contrarily, Allen is the tougher and more physical back and should be the primary in games where tougher defenses are the opponent.

Hackett needs to adjust his usage of Hall to best fit the team. Changes won’t make Hall any less of a player, but instead make his reps more impactful and efficient.

3 keys to a Jets victory vs. the Broncos in Week 4

The New York Jets will hope to add a win to their 2024 record in Week 4. The team will host the Denver Broncos at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

As usual, it will never be a walk in the park in the NFL. If the Jets (2-1) expect to beat the Broncos (1-2), there will be a few key things New York will have to focus on against Denver.

It will have to be a full-team effort, make no mistake. But these factors could weigh heavy on whether or not New York grab a win or loss at home.

Here are three keys to the Jets pulling out a victory against the Broncos:

Attack a rookie QB

While Bo Nix has made strides each week in his young NFL career, he’s still a rookie.

And if the Jets are the top-tier defense they claim to be, they should chomping at the bit to get after Nix. With 14 sacks so far on the year, New York’s defense needs to add to that in Week 4 by pressing Nix into mistakes. This falls on the play calling as well.

The Broncos enter Week 4 with the second-best pass defense in the NFL. Denver has allowed only 133.3 yards per game in the air so far this season.

Not only because of that, but because of the successes the Jets have had in the ground game on offense, running backs Breece Hall and fourth-round rookie Braelon Allen should get the ball plenty.

Protect Aaron

Yes, the Broncos have one of the best secondaries in the NFL. But Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is pretty good, too.

Rodgers and New York’s offense has to simply keep the Denver defense honest. Use the rushing attack, but use the passing game to set it up. Rodgers showed last week against the New England Patriots that he is more than capable of finding big plays.

Breece Hall & Jets’ rookie Braelon Allen are a dynamic duo

Breece Hall & Jets’ rookie Braelon Allen are a dynamic duo

New York Jets running back Breece Hall has greatly benefited from the emergence of rookie Braelon Allen. Hall’s quickness and versatility, is now being preserved, allowing him fresher legs and an opportunity to exhaust opponents later in games.

Jets’ fans recoiled at the proposed idea of Hall sharing reps in week 1, but now understand how dynamic the team’s rushing attack is. Jets’ rookie Isaiah Davis even saw snaps versus the Patriots but it is Hall and Allen who are priority.

Hall is still only averaging around 3.7 yards per carry and that’s why Allen’s physicality works better on earlier downs. Allen contrarily is averaging 5.1 yards per carry, which implies that their tandem is interchangeable.

Whether rushing or receiving, Hall has now scored a touchdown in all three Jets’ games. The sky is really the limit for the Jets who finished off the Patriots decisively in week 3. They’ll now have a 10 day rest before facing the Denver Broncos on Sept. 29.

Jets vs. Patriots: Players excited for home opener at ‘JetLife’ stadium

Jets vs. Patriots: Players excited for home opener at ‘JetLife’ stadium

After two long weeks in a row on the road, the New York Jets will finally play a game at MetLife Stadium.

Unless you’re Aaron Rodgers, then it’s “JetLife” Stadium.

After starting the first two games of the year on the road against the San Francisco 49ers and Tennessee Titans, respectively, New York (1-1) will finally play in front of their own fans against the New England Patriots (1-1) on “Thursday Night Football” in Week 3.

Players are ready for it.

The likes of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, wide receiver Garrett Wilson and running back Braelon Allen all expressed excitement for finally playing at home. That’s how Rodgers’ nickname for home field came about.

“I feel good about it. It’s been a long time since I’ve took the field at JetLife,” Rodgers said.

Check out the roundup of clips below from Rodgers, Wilson and Allen below for their reaction to playing in the home opener:

Garrett Wilson & Jets’ QB Aaron Rodgers are starting to sync

Garrett Wilson & Jets’ QB Aaron Rodgers are starting to sync

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is beginning to function well with wide receiver Garrett Wilson.

The quick passing game seems to be working in the Jets offense with Wilson and running back Breece Hall working as primary targets. The accurate quick-throws made by Rodgers are impeccable and nearly unstoppable at times.

Rodgers likes to get Wilson the football in space where his agility and speed will allow for yards after the catch. Both players spent countless hours working through training camp to build timing and rapport and while things are still a work in progress, Wilson produced four catches on just five targets, finishing with 57 receiving yards in week 2.

As long as offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett commits to a healthy balance of both run and pass plays, Rodgers can target Wilson at fairer volumes.Wilson gives his team an advantage in 1-on-1 situations, and it’s definitely because he has one of the most accurate quarterbacks in NFL history to throw him the ball.
