Oklahoma vs Missouri injury report: Key pieces ruled out on Friday injury report

Oklahoma and Missouri will be missing key players when they meet on Saturday night in Columbia.

It’s a reunion of sorts when the Oklahoma Sooners and the Missouri Tigers meet on Faurot Field on Saturday night. However, when they do, they’ll both be missing key players.

Oklahoma’s injury issues have been extensive all season long. While it looks like they’ll be getting key players like Jalil Farooq and Deion Burks back, they’ll be missing arguably their best offensive player over the last month, Jovantae Barnes.

Barnes sprained his ankle last week during his big day against Maine. The Sooners run game had been a bright spot in recent weeks. Now, Oklahoma will likely turn to true freshman Taylor Tatum to lead the way. Sam Franklin and Xavier Robinson will be a part of the running back rotation.

On Mizzou’s side, they’ll be without starting quarterback Brady Cook and will turn to Drew Pyne. Pyne is a veteran, having started a season for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish back in 2022. He’s been a backup over the last two years and in his most recent appearance, threw three interceptions against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

But there are positive developments on both sides of the matchup in the lastest injury report from the SEC.

Michael Tarquin injury update

Michael Tarquin is still questionable heading into Saturday’s showdown. If Tarquin can give it a go, that would be a huge boost for the Sooners offensive line.

Deion Burks injury update

[autotag]Deion Burks[/autotag] hasn’t played since the loss to Tennessee, but looks on track to play this week against Missouri.

Jalil Farooq injury update

[autotag]Jalil Farooq[/autotag] has missed all but the first series of the season against Temple. Like Burks, Farooq looks set to return against the Tigers.

Jovantae Barnes injury update

Jovantae Barnes has been ruled out, putting the weight of the Sooner’s running game on Oklahoma freshmen Taylor Tatum and Xavier Robinson and veteran transfer addition Sam Franklin.

Gavin Sawchuk injury update

Gavin Sawchuk is still listed as questionable on the Friday injury report. There’s a chance he could play, but if not, the Sooners will need big games from their true freshmen running backs.

Adepoju Adebawore injury update

Adepoju Adebaqwore was upgraded to probable on Friday’s injury report, giving the former five-star prospect a chance to play and bolstering the Sooners defensive end rotation.

Brady Cook injury update

Brady Cook has been ruled out and will miss the matchup with the Sooners. It’s a huge loss for Missouri, who will turn to Drew Pyne at quarterback.

Mookie Cooper injury update

After being downgraded to doubtful on Thursday, Missouri’s Mookie Cooper will be out this week. Cooper is third on the Tigers in receiving and is certainly a loss to their passing attack.

Nate Noel injury update

If you’re a Tigers fan looking for a silver lining heading into week 11, it’s that leading rusher Nate Noel has been upgraded to probable. The Tigers will need to find a way to get Noel the ball on the ground and in the passing game to have some success.

Staff Predictions for Oklahoma Sooners vs. Missouri Tigers in Week 11

Can the Oklahoma Sooners make it back-to-back wins when they go on the road to take on the Missouri Tigers?

The Oklahoma Sooners take on the Missouri Tigers for the 97th time in a history that dates back to 1902. The Sooners are 67-25-4 all-time against the Tigers, but that will have no bearing on this game.

Neither the Sooners nor the Tigers are meeting preseason expectations. Oklahoma was once a top 15 team but hasn’t been ranked in weeks. The Tigers inched inside the top 10 but are hanging onto their place in the top 25 by a thread.

Missouri is 6-2 on the season but just 2-2 in SEC play, with blowout losses to Texas A&M and Alabama. While they are two of the best teams in the conference, the Tigers’ offense struggled against two really good defenses.

Oklahoma’s offense has struggled as well, leading to a coordinator change and multiple quarterback changes throughout the season. However, after a strong first half performance against Ole Miss, an efficient performance against Maine, and the probable return of a pair of key weapons, there’s hope the Sooners are trending in a positive direction on offense. They’ve got a defense good enough to win, just need the offense to carry their weight.

Can the Oklahoma Sooners pick up their sixth win of the season and secure bowl eligibility? Let’s take a look at this week’s Sooners Wire Staff Predictions.

Sooners Wire Staff Predictions for Oklahoma at Missouri

This game comes down to the health of Missouri quarterback Brady Cook, in my opinion. If he’s good to go, the Tigers have enough offense and overall talent to put too many points on the board for Oklahoma to keep up. But if he’s can’t go, or is severely limited, Mizzou’s offense may look closer to what it did against Alabama.

I’ll go with the latter. OU will be without their top two offensive tackles again this week, but the running game does just enough against a struggling Missouri defense. The defense will have to be opportunistic and win the key moments.

If the Sooners get a solid outing from Jackson Arnold, don’t give up the big plays defensively, and win the turnover battle, they’ll get to bowl eligibility.

Jacob Sexton injury update

Jacob Sexton went down in the second half of the Ole Miss game, suffering multiple lower body injuries. There’s not a timeline for his return at this point.

Michael Tarquin injury update

Michael Tarquin missed the Sooners win over Maine due to an ankle injury, leaving Spencer Brown to get the start at right tackle. Isaiah Autry-Dent received a lot of playing time in the contest as well. The Sooners are hopeful Tarquin can return this week. He’s been Oklahoma’s most consistent offensive lineman in 2024.

Deion Burks injury update

All eyes are on Deion Burks this week as he’ll try to return for the first time since suffering a soft tissue injury in the week 4 loss to Tennessee. Brent Venables and Jackson Arnold are optimistic that he’ll be available.

Jalil Farooq injury update

Like Burks, there’s optimism that Jalil Farooq can return from injury this week after being sidelined with a broken foot in the season opener. He’s been practicing and with three games remaining has a chance to make an impact on the Sooners season.

Jovantae Barnes injury update

Jovantae Barnes is a surprise inclusion on this week’s injury report. He seemed to come out of the Maine game healthy, so he’ll be a name to monitor this week.

Gavin Sawchuk injury update

Gavin Sawchuk hasn’t had the season many expected after the way he finished 2023, but with the offensive line issues OU’s dealt with, it’s not all that surprising. Sawchuk’s missed the last couple of games for the Sooners but had been playing sparingly prior to getting dinged up.

Adepoju Adebawore injury update

Oklahoma’s former five-star defensive end Adepoju Adebawore was injured in the win over Maine, suffering a lower-body injury. He’s appeared in eight games this season, but has only played 104 snaps due to Oklahoma’s depth along the defensive line.

Ethan Downs injury update

One of Oklahoma’s leaders on defense, Ethan Downs, has been pivotal to the Sooner’s success on the defensive side of the ball. Downs dressed and warmed up with the team in the win over Maine but sat out due to back spasms.

Brady Cook injury update

Missouri quarterback Brady Cook is the name to watch this week for the Missouri Tigers. He suffered an ankle injury against Auburn and then missed most of the loss to Alabama with an injured hand. Though listed as questionable, it’s expected that Cook will miss this week and Drew Pyne will get the start.

Nate Noel injury update

Another notable injury is that of leading rusher Nate Noel. He missed the Alabama game with a foot injury and is likely to miss this week as well. In his absence, the Tigers turned to Marcus Carroll, who carried the ball 17 times for 80 yards against the Crimson Tide.

Mookie Cooper injury update

The Tigers will likely be without Mookie Cooper, who is listed as doubtful for this week. He’s third on the team in receiving yards behind Theo Wease and Luther Burden.

Missouri’s Eli Drinkwitz seemingly screamed expletives at Alabama’s defense after a bad hit on Brady Cook

Eli Drinkwitz was livid after this hit on injured QB Brady Cook.

Missouri football coach Eli Drinkwitz was heated on Saturday during the Tigers’ road game against Alabama on Saturday, and not in a good way.

The No. 21 Tigers went to Tuscaloosa and got shut out by No. 15 Alabama in a 34-0 loss, and they played with quarterback Brady Cook, who was injured in last week’s comeback win against Auburn. Cook was reportedly extremely limited in practice this week because of a sprained ankle and was considered doubtful to take on the Crimson Tide.

But he was out there anyway Saturday — even if he maybe shouldn’t have been — and got fairly beat up while sharing time with backup passer Drew Pyne.

And after a hard hit on Cook early in the game, cameras captured Drinkwitz seemingly yelling expletives toward the Alabama defense on the field, as AL.com reported:

Alabama’s LT Overton was called for a personal foul for hitting on Missouri quarterback Brady Cook on a third-and-12 play on the Missouri 17. There was confusion on the play, however, as Cook appeared to believe the play was dead, but no whistle could be heard.

Drinkwitz looked livid on the sidelines after this, and that’s when he appeared to yell, “[Expletive] you!” multiple times.

If Drinkwitz was with Cook in believing the play was dead, he’s right to be angry. Any unnecessarily rough and violent plays are not OK. But maybe the injured quarterback — who later left the game with an apparent hand injury — shouldn’t have been out there in the first place.

Will Brady Cook play for Missouri against Alabama in Week 9?

Brady Cook’s heroics saved Missouri against Auburn. But will he play against Alabama?

Missouri’s Brady Cook had a wild Week 8 Saturday that ended in an unbelievable comeback — both from the Tigers and their quarterback.

Early in Missouri’s 21-17 win over Auburn, Cook suffered an ankle injury and went to the hospital for an MRI. It was fair to think he’d be done for the day, but Cook returned to the game in the third quarter and lead his team to a come-from-behind win.

But how’s his ankle? And will he be able to play in No. 21 Missouri’s Week 9 game against No. 15 Alabama?

Cook is still recovering from a sprained ankle and is considered doubtful for Saturday’s game, as ESPN reported this week:

He has been “extremely limited” in practice so far this week, sources told ESPN. He still might try to ramp up later in the week to attempt to play, but the outlook is pessimistic.

Missouri takes on Alabama in Tuscaloosa on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.

Missouri’s Brady Cook returns from hospital to lead comeback win over Auburn

After a trip to the hospital, Brady Cook led a Missouri comeback

Brady Cook was hobbled. So bad, that the Missouri quarterback had to go to the hospital for an MRI during Saturday’s game with Auburn.

Cook left after the first series with an injured ankle and didn’t return until the third quarter of Missouri’s 21-17 win over Auburn in a battle of teams nicknamed the Tigers.

Cook said he got to the hospital and back in a truck with a trainer, driving through tailgates.

“It was a long hour-and-a-half for sure. I did not think I was going to come back to play in the game. My stuff was off, my pads were off,” Cook said later. “Ultimately, I realized I had 2 1/2 games left to play in Faurot Field. We were going to find a way.”

Auburn led 17-6 in the final quarter before Cook led a 15-0 run by the Missouri Tigers, who are 6-1.

Cook had 194 passing yards in less than two quarters of play. He had no idea what was going on in the game because cellphones were not permitted in the area of the hospital he was being tested.

The game-winning touchdown came with 46 seconds left on a four-yard run by Jamal Roberts. It completed a 17-play. 95 yard drive.

“There’s a lot of toughness in that team. A lot of young guys in that team that have never won like that before,” Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz said. “There’s a lot of fight in that team. And to figure it out like that bodes well for the rest of the year.”

Texas A&M perfectly trolled Missouri QB Brady Cook’s pregame noise comments after two false starts

It was a little louder at Kyle Field than at Missouri practice this week

Brady Cook, the starting quarterback for the No. 9 Missouri Tigers, thought for sure he was ready for a raucous environment at Kyle Field.

Yes, the Texas A&M stadium boasts a tremendous turnout every Saturday. Yes, the Aggies fans there refer to themselves as the 12th Man. Yes, Cook is a senior who has been in his fair share of loud stadiums.

But he really, truly believed it wouldn’t get to him and the Tigers.

In preparing for the Week 6 matchup, Cook was asked about the Kyle Field advantage and nonchalantly brushed it off:

“The noise at practice is actually louder” Cook stated. “They put these two speakers pretty much two feet right behind me, and, I mean, you can’t hear anything, it’s loud. In stadiums, it’s loud, but it’s like a surrounding kind of distant loud, so it’s a little different. I think it’s just as loud or louder and tougher to communicate.”

Cut to Saturday, where just about everything that could do wrong for Missouri did. Texas A&M took a 24-0 lead into halftime and kept pouring gasoline on the fire to the tune of a 41-10 win.

Along the way, Cook’s Missouri offense picked up back-to-back false start penalties on third down in the fourth quarter. And the video board operator knew exactly what to flash on the screen.

Next time, the correct answer from Cook is to say absolutely nothing.

3 Missouri players to watch ahead of Texas A&M’s Week 6 matchup

Here are three Missouri players to watch ahead of Texas A&M’s Week 6 matchup

Texas A&M (4-1, 2-0 SEC) will return to Kyle Field for the fourth time this season. On Saturday afternoon, the Aggies will host the undefeated Missouri Tigers (4-0, 1-0 SEC) as both teams look to earn their first significant wins this season.

Missouri’s roster, filled with veteran talent at nearly every position, is anchored by a passing game led by senior quarterback Brady Cook and star wide receiver Luther Burden. The two have connected for all four passing touchdowns this season.

Coming off a bye week, the Tigers should be well-rested and ready to face an Aggie team playing with confidence after defeating Arkansas 21-17, but Texas A&M’s inconsistent offensive attack is still an issue, as redshirt freshman quarterback Marcel Reed has dealt with accuracy issues.

However, if the Aggies can control the line of scrimmage, run the ball effectively, and Reed hit his targets, this should be a close contest that could go either way. Here are three Missouri players to watch on Saturday ahead of the game.

WR Theo Wease Jr.

While many of you likely thought I would list wide receiver Luther Burden, remember that Elko and defensive coordinator Jay Bateman will likely bracket the junior, leaving Theo Wease Jr. as another target for QB Brady Cook to gain chunk yards in the passing game.

In his final season, Wease leads the Tigers with 287 receiving yards, including 149 yards in the win against Buffalo in early September. Watch for Wease and wide receiver Mookie Cooper to be heavily targeted if Burden fails to get going.

DT Chris McClellan

Missouri’s safety group leads the team in most statistical categories on defense. Still, junior defensive tackle Chris McClellan, who stands at 6-3 and 320 pounds, recorded seven tackles in the Tigers’ win over Vanderbilt. He possesses the strength and functional athleticism to stop the run and potentially get in the backfield against the Aggie interior; however, who he will line up against matters, as sophomore left guard Chase Bisontis has been playing his best football lately.

QB Brady Cook

This is an easy one. Cook’s performance will likely determine the game, as Texas A&M’s run defense looks to limit the Tigers’ running game early. In the first four games, Cook has been efficient, completing 68% of his passes while facing below-average secondaries, but still very impressive.

While Cook isn’t the athlete that Arkansas QB Taylen Green is, he has run for four touchdowns this season. This means Texas A&M’s defense needs to apply pressure from every angle, similar to the Arkansas defensive game plan. Preventing Cook from getting into a passing rhythm is key, but this young man is tough and tested, so it will take one heck of an effort to get him off-kilter

Texas A&M will host Missouri on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 11:00 a.m. CT. The game will air on ABC and will be available for streaming on ESPN+.

‘The noise at practice is actually louder’ Missouri QB Brady Cook is unfazed by Kyle Field

Apparently, according to QB Brady Cook, Missouri’s practices are louder than Kyle Filed on game day

25th-ranked Texas A&M (4-1, 2-0 SEC) will host the undefeated 9th-ranked Missouri Tigers (4-10, 1-0 SEC) on Saturday afternoon. The Aggies return to Kyle Field for what looks like the toughest matchup thus far, while the Tigers are coming off a bye week.

Over the past three days, head coaches and player representatives have spoken to the media, including Missouri’s starting quarterback, Brady Cook, who provided the quote of the week when discussing how the Tigers will prepare for the noise Kyle Field will undoubtedly provide ahead of the early kickoff.

However, instead of the usual humdrum answer, Cook discredited Kyle Fields’s impact, comparing the Stadium noise to what the Tigers have experienced in practice this week.

“The noise at practice is actually louder” Cook stated. “They put these two speakers pretty much two feet right behind me, and, I mean, you can’t hear anything, it’s loud. In Stadiums, it’s loud, but it’s like a surrounding kind of distant loud, so it’s alittle different. I think it’s just as loud or louder and tougher to communicate.”

If Aggie fans and alumni needed any extra motivation to show up on Saturday afternoon, It’s pretty clear that Cook has just thrown a fat pitch down the middle of the plate.

Texas A&M will host Missouri on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 11:00 a.m. CT. The game will air on ABC and will be available for streaming on ESPN+.

‘Luther Burden is elite’ Texas A&M HC Mike Elko praises Missouri’s offense

How will Texas A&M’s secondary keep Missouri WR Luther Burden at bay?

Texas A&M (4-1, 2-0 SEC) will head back to Kyle Field for a Saturday afternoon showdown against Missouri (4-0, 1-0 SEC) a week after defeating Arkansas 21-17 in a game that could have gone either way after being tied 14-14 for most of the afternoon.

A win is a win, and the Aggies now have a chance to start 3-0 in the SEC for the first time in more than a decade. However, as head coach Mike Elko noted on Wednesday during his SEC Teleconference appearance, the Tigers’ offense, especially the passing game, will present a significant challenge for the Aggies’ secondary.

Starting with Missouri quarterback Brady Cook, who has thrown for 946 yards and four touchdowns in four games, star wide receiver Luther Burden, who is regarded as one of the top five prospects ahead of next year’s 2025 NFL draft, has hauled in every one of Cook’s touchdown passes coupled with 257 receiving yards.

Knowing his talent level and impact on the game plan, Elko praised Burden’s skillset while noting that A&M’s defense will have its hands full. However, wide receivers Theo Wease (287 yards) and Mookie Cooper (130 yards) can also break the game wide-open.

“It’s hands-down the most impressive group we’ve seen this year. … Luther Burden is elite.”

“If you shift any type of coverage to Burden, Theo (Wease) can have a field day on you. … They’re gifted. We’ll have to be on our game to slow them down.”

Texas A&M’s cornerback rotation showed much improvement against Arkasnas’s equally talented wide receiver rotation, led by junior cornerback Will Lee III, who recorded four pass deflections in Saturday’s win and will likely be responsible following Burden stride for stride.

Another Aggie cornerback to watch on Saturday is former Alabama CB Dezz Ricks, who recorded five tackles, a pass deflection, and an interception during his first start with the program.

Texas A&M will host Missouri on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 11:00 a.m. CT. The game will air on ABC and will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
