Report: Tom Brady wanted Bill O’Brien to replace Belichick as head coach

Tom Brady had a Bill Belichick successor in mind

Tom Brady announced his return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. Could Brady’s return mean a coaching change in Tampa Bay?

MMQB’s Albert Breer weighed in on this possibility this week. He does not expect a coaching change in Tampa Bay. In speaking on NBC Sports Boston Tuesday, Breer talked about how Brady wanted Bill O’Brien in New England in 2017. With a power struggle going on between the quarterback and the coach, Brady wanted O’Brien as Belichick’s successor.

Brady and Belichick would go on to appear in two more Super Bowls together. The quarterback left New England at the end of the 2022 season.

“(Bill O’Brien) was who was going to be the head coach,” Breer said during an appearance on NBC Sports Boston. “That’s who Tom Brady helped line up as the head coach, if he had won the power struggle with Bill Belichick in in 2017. If Belichick is outta here, after everything that happened in’ 17, I’m telling you Bill O’Brien would be the head guy.”

O’Brien served as the head coach of the Houston Texans from 2014 to 2020. He compiled a 52-48 regular-season record and a 2-4 playoff record. One has to wonder what Patriots history might have looked like if Bill O’Brien assumed the head coaching position.

Anatomy of a Super Bowl Berth: How Brady and the Bucs can attack Green Bay’s Cover-3

Tom Brady has thrown against every pass coverage, including Cover-3. This video breakdown shows why that might be important Sunday.

Football fans have longed for a moment like this. Tom Brady on one sideline, Aaron Rodgers on the other, in a monumental game. It might not be in the Super Bowl, but those two venerable quarterbacks will clash this weekend with a Super Bowl berth at stake.

Of course, lost in that storyline is the fact that Brady will be squaring off with Darnell Savage and the Packers defense, while Rodgers will be staring down Devin White and the Buccaneers defense. Still, there are no shortage of storylines when examining those matchups.

In thinking about a potential game script for Brady working against this Green Bay defensive unit, my mind was quickly taken to attacking Cover-3. Why? Because after charting out the Packers’ defensive performance this season one thing was illuminated: Of the 41 passing plays against the Packers this season that gained more than 20 yards, 18 of those came with Green Bay in that coverage. So attacking that scheme would be where I would start.

Thankfully for Bruce Arians and Byron Leftwich, they have some things to work with. This video breakdown will highlight some route concepts that have worked against the Packers this year, and conclude with a moment from a few years ago that could be replicated this Sunday:

Tom Brady narrates hype video for Lipscomb Academy high school

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady narrated a hype video for a Tennessee high school team before the state championship game.

As we are seeing on social media this week, it is championship season for high school football teams. We have already seen an incredible ending to the Alabama Class 7A Championship Game, and in Tennessee the Lipscomb Academy Mustangs – coached by former Super Bowl winner Trent Dilfer – are set to take on the Christ Presbyterian Academy Lions in the state’s Division II-AA BlueCross Bowl.

The Mustangs turned to another Super Bowl winner to narrate a hype video before Thursday’s game.

None other than six-time champion Tom Brady:

Might be hard for other teams to top this, but you can be sure they’ll try.

Tom Brady: Michigan man but Notre Dame fan?

Is Tom Brady about to start rooting for a different mid-west team with Michigan not playing football this year?

Here we are just a day away from college football starting for the majority of FBS teams as the unofficial first Saturday of the fall is upon us.

Notre Dame starts the season Saturday as they welcome Duke to South Bend, Indiana.  Notre Dame will be representing the mid-west this fall as the Big Ten and MAC have both cancelled their seasons and despite rumors to the contrary, don’t appear very close to having that change.

I’ve found myself wondering if fans of other mid-west programs will take up Notre Dame for 2020 as a result and cheer for the region.  Personally I wouldn’t be one who is overly quick to root for Michigan or Ohio State all year long but if they were playing an entirely non-regional schedule that may change things a little bit.

One football fan having troubles with his team not playing this fall is perhaps the most successful quarterback in the history of the NFL.

Former Michigan quarterback Tom Brady took to Instagram to share his thoughts on who he might be rooting for if the Big Ten is in fact not going to play this fall.

On this post from Michigan football’s official Instagram account, Brady commented the following:

tombrady —I hope we play football this year I would hate to have to root for Notre Dame 😖
Notre Dame might not have had his talents in college, not that they needed them against Michigan in 1998, but maybe just maybe they’ll at least get his fandom for 2020.

Lazy Sunday means watching golf for Tom Brady

Bucs QB Tom Brady is watching a little golf on Sunday as he prepares for his own charity match.

There’s not much else to do these days than watch TV, and given that it’s Sunday, we could all use a little time to kick up our feet and just hang out.

While sports games might be hard to come by, there is golf for those interested. TaylorMade Driving Relief, at Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Florida, is a charity skins match featuring Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson against Rickie Fowler and Matthew Wolff.

Bucs QB Tom Brady seems to be deep into the golf match today, posting the below photos on his Instagram story.

Brady is probably preparing for his own charity event next Sunday, The Match: Champions for Charity, which will have Brady and Phil Mickelson teaming up against Peyton Manning and Tiger Woods. As expected with a group like this, there’s been plenty of friendly trash talk from both sides.

Twitter wishes Rob Gronkowski a happy birthday

See what people on Twitter had to say to Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Rob Gronkowski on his birthday.

It’s Rob Gronkowski’s birthday!

Despite being away from the game for a year, the tight end is only 31 today, and will hopefully be a major contributor to the Bucs in 2020, especially since he’ll be reunited with his best buddy Tom Brady.

See how Twitter wished the future Hall of Famer a happy birthday.

Tom Brady and Jameis Winston’s seasons both had eerily similar endings

Both Tom Brady and Jameis Winston’s 2019 seasons ended on a sour note.

Jameis Winston had a season for the ages in 2019, both good and bad. While the former Heisman Trophy winner became just the eighth quarterback in league history to throw for 5,000 yards in a season, he also became the first player ever to throw for at least 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in a season.

Winston’s 30th pick may have been the worst of all, and not just because it pulled him to the infamous 30-INT mark. It came in overtime of the Bucs’ Week 17 game against the Atlanta Falcons, on the very first play, and was taken to the house for the game-winning score by linebacker Deion Jones. It would be Winston’s last pass attempt as the Bucs quarterback. The team went out and signed Tom Brady and Winston eventually landed with the New Orleans Saints.

But Winston wasn’t the only one whose season ended because of a pick-six. Brady, himself, saw his final throw as a Patriot get picked and taken back for a touchdown in New England’s wild-card loss to the Tennessee Titans. It’s funny how things work out.

Take a look now at those final plays below.

Peyton Manning roasts Tom Brady in hilarious fashion

While on a video call promoting “The Match: Champions for Charity,” Peyton Manning had some fun at Tom Brady’s expense, all in good fun.

Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods will soon tee up in The Match: Champions for Charity, with all donations and fundraising going to COVID-19 relief.

Today, the four superstars jumped on a video conference call to promote the event, and Manning took the chance to have a little fun at Brady’s expense, highlighting Tom’s recent mishap where he walked into the wrong home.

Take a look at the clip below. Manning is pure comedic gold.

Don’t worry, though, Brady has done his fair share of friendly trash talking towards Manning and Woods, too. This event is for a great cause and it should be fun to watch these guys get competitive on the golf course.

Tom Brady celebrates the return of Gronk on Twitter

Bucs QB Tom Brady took to Twitter today to tell his old friend Gronk it’s “time to run it back.”

First Tom Brady, and now Rob Gronkowski.

It seems the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are becoming the Patriots of the NFC South after acquiring the star tight end from New England yesterday. Gronk will end his one-year retirement to join Brady and the loaded Bucs in 2020.

Brady and Gronk have dominated on the field together, and nobody seems happier about his return than Brady himself. The six-time Super Bowl champion took to Twitter this morning to celebrate the return of his friend.

Take a look.

Twitter reacts to Tom Brady’s new trademarks and the responses are fantastic

Now that Bucs QB Tom Brady has filed trademarks for “Tompa Bay” and “Tampa Brady,” see how Twitter reacted to the news.

Bucs QB Tom Brady is a father to three wonderful kids, so it’s only natural that he tells some dad jokes from time to time.

But, after news came out today that Brady’s company TEB Capital Management filed trademarks for both “Tompa Bay” and “Tampa Brady,” it seems the six-time Super Bowl champion is taking dad jokes to a whole new extreme.

While Buccaneers fans will likely be more than happy to purchase a few of these new shirts when they become available, other people aren’t as keen about Brady’s new business move.

With that, here are some of the reactions people had on Twitter about the news.
