Former Oklahoma pitcher Garrett Richards signs one-year deal with Boston Red Sox

Former Oklahoma pitcher Garrett Richards signed a one-year, $10 million deal with the Boston Red Sox on Saturday.

Former Oklahoma pitcher Garrett Richards will be heading to his third different club as he enters his 11th MLB season.

Richards signed a one-year, $10 million deal with the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, per MLB Network’s Jon Morosi.

Richards spent the last two seasons with the San Diego Padres after being with the Los Angeles Angels from 2011-2018. Over his ten years in the big leagues, he has started 187 games going 47-41 with a 3.62 ERA.

After a promising start to his career, injuries started to plague him in 2016 as Richards was only able to make six starts in each of the 2016 and 2017 seasons. After starting only three games in 2019, he was able to find some consistent health as he was able to make ten starts and 14 appearances in the shortened 2020 campaign.

Now he goes to a Red Sox team that certainly could use the additional pitching. He should get his opportunity to make plenty of starts this season as long as he is able to remain healthy.

Red Sox re-hire Alex Cora as manager despite cheating scandal

What I’m Hearing: USA TODAY Sports’ Bob Nightengale shares the latest on the Red Sox’s decision to once again hire Alex Cora as their manager despite being apart of a cheating scandal.

What I’m Hearing: USA TODAY Sports’ Bob Nightengale shares the latest on the Red Sox’s decision to once again hire Alex Cora as their manager despite being apart of a cheating scandal.

MLB fans laughed at the timing of report that the Red Sox had re-hired manager Alex Cora

The timing!

You might have noticed there’s A LOT going on in the news right now having to do with the 2020 presidential election, especially on Friday morning.

So you absolutely may have missed it and that’s perfectly fine: per multiple reports, including from USA TODAY Sports, the Boston Red Sox are rehiring Alex Cora as their manager.

Yes, that’s the same Alex Cora who brought the Red Sox to a title in 2018, who was then let go by Boston in January of this year (yep, that happened in 2020!) and was suspended for the entire season because he was the Houston Astros’ bench coach during the sign-stealing scandal of 2017.

And that report dropped right in the middle of news breaking regarding the election, around 9:16 a.m. ET on Friday:

There were lots of laughs to be had:

Pretty amazing.

Someone broke into Fenway Park and disrupted the Yankees-Red Sox game

Uh, what?!

This MLB season has seen some of the stranger delays and postponements. There have been delays for drones. Postponements for wildfire smoke and air quality, COVID-19 outbreaks and oh, yeah, rain. There’s still rain.

We can add “Fan Breaks Into Stadium” as the latest cause of an in-game delay.

During Sunday’s closed-door game between the Red Sox and Yankees at Fenway Park, the eighth inning was interrupted when a fan climbed atop the green monster and started shouting things and throwing hats onto the field.

It was an odd scene, especially given the COVID-19 pandemic, with security reluctant to get too close to the guy. But mainly, players on both teams and stadium staff just wanted this guy to leave safely.

They eventually talked the guy down, but this was less than safe.

Nothing about this MLB season has been normal.

“¿Veo a (Mookie)?
