NC State (-1800) looked good last week against Wake Forest, as QB MJ Morris tossed 3 TDs while running for 43 yards. Finally, after several games of struggles for the Wolfpack offense, it looks like it has a viable solution to replace injured QB Devin Leary.

Still, you can’t risk 18 times your potential return on NC State, even if Boston College is the worst team in the ACC.

Against the spread

Play BOSTON COLLEGE +19.5 (-111) on the road, as it has the defensive ability to keep NC State within 20 points.

Morehead looked sharp last week, albeit against Duke. But to be fair, the Blue Devils are bowl eligible, and no slouch. NC State could hit 30, but it hasn’t shown the balanced-type attack to go much higher than that.

Over/Under

OVER 41 (-113) is the slight lean, but play it very, very lightly.

BC hit the Over rather easily last week, while NC State went Under. Lately, it’s been all Under for the Eagles, though. The Under is 12-5 in the past 17 games overall, and 10-4 in the past 14 ACC games. The Under is also 6-1 in the past 7 meetings in this series, and 4-0 in the past 4 meetings in Raleigh.

The Over is 4-1 in the past 5 for NC State against losing teams, however. In addition, the Wolfpack should at least be able to get to 30. It won’t take much help from BC to get this game across the finish line for the Over.

Against the spread

WAKE FOREST -20.5 (-108) is a great play, especially since this game is at home. The Deacs have rolled up 41.2 PPG to rank 14th in the nation, and their defensive numbers are sufficient. Wake Forest will be more than able to handle B.C. The Eagles are yielding 29.0 PPG (84th), and will offer very little resistance against QB Sam Hartman and company.

Over/Under

OVER 60.5 (-108) is worth a look, although play it lightly.

The concern here is not Wake Forest, as it should be able to put up plenty of offense. The concern is whether or not Boston College can contribute to the total. BC managed just a field goal against Clemson, and it was blown out 44-14 at Florida State and 27-10 at Virginia Tech earlier in the season.

Wake Forest’s offense is on par with Clemson’s, as we saw in that tremendous OT loss. It will score points, but we need BC to at least get to double digits to have this inch across the finish line. The better bet is laying the points.

So far this season, these teams have combined to go 5-1 toward the under while BC has been winless against the spread (ATS) in their games.

Florida State, even without Travis, will be the better team after winning its 1st ACC game last week against Louisville 35-31. It will be important for the Seminoles to get this game as their next set of opponents include Clemson, NC State and Wake Forest. 3 of the teams they face in the Atlantic Division of the ACC. Boston College on the other hand is just looking to remain close and hopefully play spoiler.

Do not bet. The ML is too high on either side to make this a worthy bet.

Against the spread

Take the underdog BC -17.5 (-112) here.

BC has looked terrible so far this season. Jurkovec has gone from 1st-round NFL Draft hopeful to 2nd-day hopeful. His offensive line has been decimated by graduation and injury and the offense is faltering because of it.

Florida State, although 3-0, is also not putting up a lot of points. Not enough to be favored by more than 3 scores against BC.

If Travis was playing in this game, I might feel different. But in a game which should remain low scoring and close, I would play BC. This is my favorite play in this game.

Over/Under

TAKE UNDER 48.5 (-115) in this matchup.

BC was only able to put up 21 points against Rutgers in Week 1. Against FCS Maine, they only managed 38 last week. They have had an easy schedule and have still been unable to perform to a level which makes me think they can score. So far this season, all 3 of their games have hit the Under.

For Florida State, 2 of their 3 games have hit the Under. The only reason it was not 3 out of 3 was due to their starting DE and impact transfer Jared Verse going out. This allowed Louisville to score and forced Florida State to keep up. BC does not have the weapons to make this an offensive game. So, defenses will prevail and so will the UNDER.

This could be a somewhat ugly game if both teams play similarly to how they did last week. That being said, VIRGINIA TECH (-145) is worth consideration with the Hokies being able to limit an offense of the Eagles that lacks a running game.

Against the spread

This game could be a coin toss, which is why the spread is so small in favor of the Hokies. VIRGINIA TECH -2.5 (-117) is where I’m siding in this game with the Hokies likely leaning on their ground game to prevent mistakes from Wells for the 2nd straight week.

Over/Under

Neither of these teams were in high-scoring affairs in Week 1 and these teams could be playing it safe to try to secure a win to avoid an 0-2 start to the season. The UNDER 45.5 (-108) is enticing with Boston College and Virginia Tech having solid defenses.

The Under is 8-1 in Boston College’s last 9 games and 7-1 in the program’s last 8 conference games. On the other hand, Virginia Tech has hit the Under in each of their last 5 games in September.

The Demon Deacons need a win on the road in Chestnut Hill, and they will punch their ticket to the ACC Championship Game. Wake has rolled up an impressive 43.1 PPG this season while piling up 490.1 total yards per game.

The Eagles have managed just 26.0 PPG this season, but that’s actually pretty impressive since they lost QB Phil Jurkovec rather early to a season-ending injury. BC was dumped 26-23 last week against Florida State, snapping a modest two-game win and cover streak.

Wake Forest (-220) has it all on the line in front of them. Win, and it’s in. It’s a tall order playing on the road, in the cold, but this Demon Deacons team has been resilient this season, and very productive on offense.

Still, laying more than two times your potential return is risky business on a road team, regardless of what is at stake.

PASS, and look to the line instead.

Against the spread

WAKE FOREST -5.5 (-112) is a better value laying the points, and it’s rather surprising it isn’t a higher number. That’s likely because the Demon Deacons defense cannot be trusted lately.

However, the Eagles aren’t a high-octane offense, and BC shouldn’t put up the same kind of numbers Wake allowed to Clemson, NC State and North Carolina in the past three games.

Over/Under

The OVER 64.5 (-120) is the play Wake has hit the Over in three in a row, scoring 42.3 PPG across the past three games, while allowing 48.7 PPG during the span. The Over is also 6-1 in Wake’s past seven games overall.

Boston College has cashed the Under in six of the past seven, but even the anemic offense of the Eagles will be able to move the ball on the Deacs.
