Purdue recruits 3-star QB prospect from Texas for their class of 2025

Anderson (6-foot-0, 180 pounds) also had offers from 24 other schools.

The 2024 recruiting cycle has slowed down a great deal in recent days as programs begin to focus on the start of the college football season. Several schools have added three-star recruits this week, including a young quarterback prospect for Purdue.

Here’s how Parish Episcopal School (Texas) three-star quarterback Sawyer Anderson announced his commitment to the Boilermakers on Tuesday.

Anderson (6-foot-0, 180 pounds) had offers from 24 other schools, including Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Colorado, Duke, Memphis, Miami, NC State and Wisconsin.

Purdue will be getting what Parish Epsicopal head coach Daniel Novakov calls the best QB he’s ever seen at getting the ball out of his hands quickly, per Dub Jellison at Rivals.

“He’s a gunslinger. He’s the best quarterback I’ve ever seen at getting the ball out of his hand quickly… He’s a deadly accurate passer. He’s the best passer I’ve ever seen. I mean, that doesn’t mean he’s got the strongest arm I’ve ever seen, but his arm is ridiculously strong. His hands are huge. The way he just is able to flick that ball and put it where he wants to put it. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Rivals has Anderson ranked No. 25 at quarterback and No. 62 in the state of Texas. Meanwhile, On3 and 247Sports have him ranked lower.

Anderson is the second commit of Purdue’s class of 2025. The other is DeSoto (Texas) three-star edge Keylan Abrams.

WATCH: Best Jalen Graham highlights from Purdue

Jalen Graham was a key part of Purdue’s secondary in 2022 and shouldn’t be overlooked as the #49ers’ final selection of the 2023 NFL draft

Jalen Graham was the San Francisco 49ers’ last selection in the 2023 NFL draft, but shouldn’t be overlooked. His dynamic skillset was a boon for Purdue’s secondary last season, and he showed an ability to make plays in big moments to keep the Boilermakers’ heads above water.

Whether he will make an impact for the 49ers in 2023 is unknown, but judging from his highlight reel from college, he should be able to push for snaps in training camp. Check out his best plays from Purdue below to get a sense of what he might bring to the table for San Francisco ahead of the 2023 season:

Texas 4-star QB Marcos Davila picks Purdue over 23 other offers

Midland Legacy (Texas) four-star quarterback Marcos Davila announces commitment to Purdue.

The Purdue Boilermakers have found their quarterback for the 2024 recruiting cycle.

On Monday, Midland (Texas) four-star QB Marcos Davila announced his commitment to Purdue on Twitter.

Davila had offers from 23 other programs, including TCU, Colorado and Miami. As to why he picked Purdue? Davila’s recent comments to Nick Harris at Rivals about head coach Graham Harrell are a solid clue.

“Just his character… He’s been really great to me and my family. I feel like he’s one of the most honest recruiters I talk to. He shows me a lot of love all the time.”

Davila also credited the opportunity that he will have to play at Purdue.

Going by the composite rankings, Davila (6-foot-3, 217 pounds) is ranked No. 20 among quarterbacks in his class, No. 52 overall in Texas and No. 315 nationally.

Rutgers upsets No. 1: Five keys from Thursday’s historic win

The Rutgers men’s basketball team beat Purdue on a buzzer-beater Thursday night to earn their first win over a No. 1-ranked team.

Coming off of a bad loss a week ago against Illinois, Rutgers faced the challenge of facing the newly crowned No.1 Purdue Boilermakers. To make matters worse, they would once again be without one of their leaders, senior guard Geo Baker.

There were a few things in Rutgers’ favor, though. First, things can’t be as bad as that Illinois game … right? Second, the Scarlet Knights returned home to a raucous crowd at Jersey Mike’s Arena that was sold out for the 15th consecutive game. Lastly, despite never having beaten the top-ranked team in the country, Rutgers had Purdue’s number as of late. Coming into the contest, the Scarlet Knights had won three in a row against the Boilermakers.

Many fans wondered if unranked Rutgers could compete with Purdue. Well, the Scarlet Knights did more than just compete, they earned a hard-fought 70-68 victory.

Let’s take a look at five key takeaways from the thrilling upset in Piscataway.

Purdue knocks off No. 2 Iowa

Down goes No. 2!

Back on September 18 Notre Dame improved to 3-0 on the then young season with a 27-13 victory over Purdue in South Bend.  It wasn’t the prettiest or most impressive of performances but it was a win nonetheless.

Right now Iowa is wishing they had an unimpressive win against the Boilermakers instead of what actually happened as Purdue walked into Kinnick Stadium on Saturday and handed No. 2 Iowa a 24-7 defeat, Iowa’s first of the year.

Aidan O’Connell threw for 375 yards and two scores for Purdue while wide receiver David Bell hauled in 11 receptions for 240 yards and a touchdown.

The Boilermakers are now 4-2 on the year while Iowa falls to 6-1.

Most exciting player in college football opts back in for 2020

The most exciting player in college football (when healthy) has opted back in for the 2020 season.

There are a bunch of exciting players all around the world of college football but for my money, when healthy, there isn’t a more exciting one than Rondale Moore of Purdue.

Moore became the first true freshman to earn consensus All-American honors in 2018 when it felt like each time he stepped on the field, something special happened.

Moore had announced he was opting out of the 2020 season previously, back when the Big Ten was contemplating playing a spring season since they, at the time, had cancelled their fall season.

Moore played in just four games in 2019 after dealing with a hamstring injury, but averaged more than seven receptions per game while scoring a pair of touchdowns and totaling 390 scrimmage yards.

Moore totaled 1471 scrimmage yards on 135 touches that historic freshman year, finding the end zone 14 times along the way.

Here’s hoping the New Albany, Indiana native stays healthy and has another fall full of incredible highlights like he had two seasons ago.

2021 NFL mock draft connects Saints with Purdue sleeper WR

The Saints picked Purdue draft prospect Rondale Moore in a 2021 NFL mock draft, adding a weapon some see as a Heisman Trophy contender.

Drew Brees appears set to ride off into the sunset (and then the NBC Sports broadcasting booth) after the 2020 season, if he so chooses, but the possibility of connecting with a high-profile draft prospect from his alma mater might be enough to keep him around for one more year. Maybe.

A recent 2021 mock draft from Luke Easterling over at Draft Wire linked the Saints with Rondale Moore, a dynamic weapon suggested by Pro Football Focus analyst Anthony Treash as a possible Heisman Trophy contender in 2020. Treash wrote of the Purdue Boilermakers phenom:

After being named a first-team All-American and winning the Paul Hornung Award (most versatile player in college football) as a true freshman in 2018, Moore came back in 2019 and looked like he would have an even bigger year. Then he suffered an injury in Week 5 that knocked him out the rest of the season.

That hamstring issue aside, Moore has a ton of momentum building behind him. He caught more passes as a true freshman (114) than the three next-best players combined (108) while averaging over 10 yards per carry on 21 rushing attempts, accounting for 29% of the touchdowns the Boilermakers scored on offense back in 2018 — again, as a true freshman.

In fact, PFF graded his performance that year as one of the best seasons ever put together by a first-year player at the college level, going back to 2014. Only uber-talented LSU Tigers cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. has rated better in that era. So, yeah: the Saints could definitely use someone with Moore’s skills. But if he’s able to live up to the hype in 2020 after an injury-shortened 2019, he might not make it to their draft slot.

An interesting (and welcome) wrinkle to 2021 mock drafts is that the Saints own each of their picks in the first two rounds for the first time since 2017. They traded their third-round choice next year to move up in the 2020 draft, but expect to recoup it as a compensatory pick after Teddy Bridgewater signed with the cross-division rival Carolina Panthers.

For the folks keeping score at home, the Saints have made selections in each of the first three rounds just three times over the last decade (2017, 2015, and 2010). An influx of young talent, maybe in the wake of Brees’ retirement, would be nice to see. In Easterling’s mock draft, he connected the Saints with Clemson Tigers pass rusher Xavier Thomas — not a bad find in the second round.

Indiana at Purdue odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Indiana Hoosiers at Purdue Boilermakers sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks and tips.

The Indiana Hoosiers (7-4, 4-4 Big 10) and Purdue Boilermakers (4-7, 3-5) play Saturday at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, IN at 12 p.m. ET. We analyze the Indiana-Purdue odds and betting lines while providing college football betting tips and advice on this matchup.

Indiana at Purdue: Three things you need to know

1. Indiana got bruised and battered last week in a 39-14 defeat at the hands of Michigan. QB Peyton Ramsey was harassed all day and turned the ball over twice in defeat.

2. Purdue was able to stay with Wisconsin for a good stretch of the game before fading late. Creativity kept the Boilermakers in it but their rushing defense went south — allowing over 400 yards in the loss.

3. For both teams, this game may be more about the Old Oaken Bucket than anything else. Purdue is not bowl-eligible and Indiana is likely locked in no matter what.

Prediction

Indiana 31, Purdue 24

Moneyline (ML)

Indiana is a -278 favorite while Purdue is a +220 underdog at home on Saturday afternoon.

The game hinges on Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm and how much he can frustrate Indiana’s defense. If Brohm’s playcalling can do that, Purdue has a shot at winning. Otherwise, Indiana likely dominates this tilt. Purdue needs another few weapons to win this one. The odds are chalky with a $10 bet garnering a profit of $3.60. PASS.

Against the Spread (ATS)

Purdue is 3-3 against the spread at home, coming in just under one point per game below the line. Indiana is 3-1 ATS on the road and covers by an average of 5.5 points per game. A healthy Ramsey under center for Indiana may be enough to ensure victory.

Back the HOOSIERS (-6.5, -125). Indiana’s rushing attack was held under 100 yards last week by Michigan. Do not expect that this week.

Over/Under (O/U)

The projected total is 56.5. This will be close but side with the UNDER at (-106). Showery and blustery weather may make just enough of an impact to make this more of a running game than most expect. That would favor Indiana even more and keep the scoring down just enough.
