Where Bo Nix’s Heisman odds stand heading into Week 1 of 2023 season

Have the billboards and newspaper ads helped Bo Nix’s Heisman odds? Here’s a final look before the 2023 season kicks off on Saturday.

The Oregon Ducks have been making a strong push over the last month to make sure that quarterback Bo Nix is entrenched firmly in the Heisman Trophy conversation for the 2023 season.

With billboards going up in downtown New York City, across multiple buildings in Dallas, and a full-page ad being printed in the Sunday edition of the New York Times, it’s clear that Nix is not going to suffer from lack of exposure at any point this season. While those campaigns may have more to do with recruiting than swaying Heisman voters, it doesn’t hurt his case in the end.

After a long offseason, we are finally about to arrive at the oasis of college football, with a full slate of games kicking off this weekend. As always, the betting odds for the Heisman will shift a lot over the next few months with good and bad performances from a handful of players.

Before things started, though, we wanted to get one last look at the Heisman betting odds, according to FanDuel. Take a look at where Nix currently stands.

Social media reacts to Bo Nix ‘BODACIOUS’ billboard going up in New York City

“He’s focused. He’s having fun. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a dark horse for the Heisman.”

“He’s focused. He’s having fun. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a dark horse for the Heisman.”

It’s been a running joke throughout the long college career for Oregon Ducks quarterback Bo Nix. After the electric start to his career as a freshman for the Auburn Tigers, Nix struggled to get back to the peak of his game until coming to Eugene a year ago and thriving under the tutelage of Kenny Dillingham.

Now, entering his final year of college ball, the hype has never been bigger for Nix. A Heisman Trophy campaign has been kicked off and his going strong early on.

To help ignite the buzz, the Ducks took a play from the old playbook and put up a massive “BODACIOUS” billboard in downtown New York City to start spreading the word about Bo. It started to go up on Tuesday and was completed on Wednesday.

As you would expect, the reaction to the billboard on social media was quite entertaining.

LOOK: Bo Nix gets ‘Joey Heisman’ treatment with massive billboard in New York

Bo Knows Heisman? Oregon’s QB is getting the ‘Joey Heisman’ treatment with a 12-story billboard going up in New York City.

Do you want to feel old for a second?

It was over two decades ago that Oregon Ducks quarterback Joey Harrington had his name, image, and likeness plastered to the side of a building in downtown New York City, kicking off his campaign for the Heisman Trophy in 2001. The poster hung adjacent from Madison Square Garden on 7th Avenue, and remained there throughout the season.

Time is a flat circle, isn’t it?

On Tuesday, pictures started circulating online that could give Oregon fans flashbacks. According to multiple reports on the social media platform formally known as Twitter, a massive 12-story poster is going up of current Oregon QB Bo Nix, appearing to be labeled “Bodacious.”

The poster, located at 315 Park Avenue, is not completed yet, but it appears that the Ducks are going all in on the Heisman campaign for Nix just as they did for Harrington a couple of decades ago. In 2001, Harrington finished fourth in the Heisman voting.

Unsurprisingly, the news of the billboard going up in New York City drew a lot of excitement across the country in Eugene. Here are some of the best reactions on social media from fans, former Oregon players, and Joey Harrington himself.

Bo Nix notably missing from list of potential Heisman winners in 2023

Are there 9 QBs in the nation better than Bo Nix in 2023? That apparently is up for debate at this point, though we don’t agree.

We don’t like to criticize other publications, including online ones such as DucksWire. It’s a difficult space and competition is tough. We all work hard at what we do and try to be as knowledgeable about the sports we cover.

Unfortunately, when there is a glaring omission in Top 10 lists that are put out, we feel it’s important to point out the error of their ways, especially when omissions are certain Oregon Duck players.

This occurred when our buddies at On3.com came up with their Top 10 Heisman candidates. There are the usual suspects such as USC’s Caleb Williams and North Carolina’s Drake Maye.

On this list, there are nine quarterbacks and receiver Marvin Harrison, Jr. from Ohio State, who might actually win the award this season.

Not on the list is Oregon quarterback Bo Nix. Essentially. they’re saying there are nine better quarterbacks in the country than the Ducks’ QB1.

It’s difficult to believe after the season last year Nix turned in that there are nine better quarterbacks than him. If we have to include Nix, someone, or more than one, needs to be dropped off that list like a bad habit.

The first obvious choice is Clemson sophomore signal caller Cade Klubnik, who was No. 9 on the list. He had a grand total of 100 pass attempts last season. Klubnik is projected to be the starter for the Tigers, but he hasn’t accomplished anything or enough to say he’s better than Nix.

Michigan’s JJ McCarthy is No. 4 had a nice season for the Wolverines and led them to the College Football Playoffs, but statistically, he’s not better than Nix, who had more yards, touchdowns, and a better completion percentage than McCarthy.

The last “questionable” player on the list is LSU and former Arizona State quarterback Jayden Daniels. He had a good, but not great, season for the Tigers in 2022. He’s also a fifth-year senior that has a grand total of 49 career touchdowns. In comparison, Nix had 44 total touchdowns last season alone.

It’s generally accepted that Nix is going to have a monster season for Oregon in 2023 provided he stays healthy. He’s never had this many and as talented of weapons as he will with the 2023 Ducks. Oregon might have the best receiving corps in the Pac-12 with Troy Franklin, Kris Hutson, Traeshon Holden, Tez Johnson plus tight ends such as Patrick Herbert and Terrance Ferguson (assuming he’s healthy in the fall).

Oregon’s running backs can also catch the ball out of the backfield. Nix had 3,593 yards last season and he could surpass that total in 2023.

Will Nix win the Heisman or even go to the ceremony in New York? Probably not. But to think there are nine quarterbacks ahead of him is ludicrous and should provide even more motivation for Oregon’s fifth-year senior to dominate in 2023.
