Broncos guard Quinn Meinerz delivered huge blocks vs. Falcons

Broncos guard Quinn Meinerz dominated the Falcons on Sunday.

Denver Broncos guard Quinn Meinerz is a beast.

The 2023 Pro Bowl alternate continues turning heads as he delivers pancake blocks on a near-weekly basis with the Broncos.

Meinerz played a role in running back Javonte Williams’ team-effort touchdown run, and he also delivered two big blocks against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

In the third quarter, Meinerz blocked Falcons linebacker Kaden Elliss down field, then he turned his attention toward lighting up Atlanta safety Jessie Bates. Those blocks helped wide receiver Troy Franklin score on a screen play to extend the lead to 28-6.

Former NFL offensive lineman AQ Shipley reacted to Meinerz’s big block on Twitter/X:

Meinerz (6-3, 320 pounds) has clearly established himself as one of the best guards in the NFL, and he should earn his first career Pro Bowl nod this fall.

Everyone loved Quinn Meinerz’s blocking on ‘Monday Night Football’

Broncos guard Quinn Meinerz is a beast! 😤

Quinn Meinerz remains a fan favorite.

The 24-year-old guard played college football at Wisconsin-Whitewater, a Division III program, and his fantastic college film, impressive performance at the Senior Bowl and unique outdoor workout videos caught the attention of NFL teams in 2021.

Denver used a third-round pick to select Meinerz in the NFL draft three years ago and he quickly emerged as a fan favorite after “letting the belly breathe” at practice. Meinerz is much more than a meme, though. He is emerging as one of the best guards in the NFL, and a Pro Bowl nod could be within reach this season.

Twitter gushed with praise for Meinerz after his impressive performance against the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football in Week 10.

A look at every angle of Jimmy Butler’s absolutely incredible game-saving block on Devin Booker

Jimmy Butler is absolutely incredible

Jimmy Butler might have just made the best defensive play we’ve seen so far in this young NBA season.

Look, I know that feels like hyperbole. But it’s hard to block jump shots. Especially jump shots from elite scorers who do just about everything to throw you off your timing and get you up in the air.

That’s what Devin Booker tried to do against Butler in the waning moments of the Heat’s win against the Suns. The game was on the line with the Suns down 1. They’d just gotten the ball back from an offensive rebound on the possession prior.

Booker got the ball with a chance to win the game for Phoenix. He jabs steps. Jabs again. Takes off to his right hand and then rises up.

Butler takes care of the rest of it. Take a look.

Broncos rookie guard Quinn Meinerz went viral after impressive block on SNF

A video of Broncos rookie guard blowing up Chiefs defender Melvin Ingram already has more than 1.3 million views.

Denver Broncos rookie right guard Quinn Meinerz showed off his impressive blocking power during a “Sunday Night Football” showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 13.

On a run play in the second quarter, Meinerz (No. 77) pulled from the right side and met Chiefs defensive lineman Melvin Ingram (No. 24) at the line of scrimmage. Meinerz then drove him about 10 yards downfield before turning his attention toward another defender.

Warren Sharp of NBC Sports recorded the play and shared it on Twitter. At the time of this writing, the viral video has been viewed more than 1.3 million times.

Meinerz (6-3, 320 pounds) was selected by the Broncos in the third round of April’s NFL draft after playing college football at UW–Whitewater. Despite playing Division III football, Meinerz caught the attention of NFL scouts (which is no surprise given the above clip).

When his 2020 college season was canceled due to COVID-19, Meinerz took a unique approach to stay in shape, working out outdoors and posting videos of his routine online (those videos also went viral).

Meinerz quickly became a fan favorite in Denver thanks in part to his habit of “letting the belly breathe” at spring practice. The big-bellied offensive lineman will continue endearing himself to fans if he blocks like this every week.

During the 2015 season, Peyton Manning’s last year in the NFL, he delivered a big block on former Browns safety Donte Whitner in a 26-23 win. Footage from the play can be seen in the above video, courtesy of the NFL’s Throwback page on Instagram.

Manning actually played pretty poorly in that contest, throwing three touchdown passes with just one touchdown, finishing the day with a 53.3 passer rating. Denver’s defense showed up and helped the Broncos clinch a win over the Browns in overtime (that was a reoccurring theme in 2015).

Though he didn’t have a big day passing, Manning’s block was effective and humorous. Manning was an aging quarterback nearing the end of his career and the last thing fans expected to see from him was a big block on a two-time Pro Bowler.

After helping Denver win the Super Bowl, Manning retired from football in 2016. He will be eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021.

WATCH: Top 10 Boston Celtics blocks of the 2019-20 season so far

Whether at the basket or on the perimeter, blocks were an integral part of the Boston Celtics defense in 2019-20 — one of the best in the NBA.

The Boston Celtics have put together one of the NBA’s top defenses despite losing big man Al Horford in free agency over the summer, and their shot-blocking capabilities make up part of the reason why.

Unlike a lot of rosters, there are few true rim protectors who play extended minutes on the roster, rejection duties largely shared by the wings as much as the frontcourt, and even guards get in on the action at times.

Centers Daniel Theis, Robert Williams and Enes Kanter anchor the interior, but forwards Jayson Tatum and Grant Williams and guards Kemba Walker and Marcus Smart all average at least a half block per game, many of which come away from the basket.

Watch the video embedded above to see the Boston Celtics’ top ten blocks of the 2019-20 NBA season to date while we wait out the coronavirus hiatus.
