No. 1 Tennessee (28-1, 9-0 SEC) defeated Lipscomb, 5-1, Tuesday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The Vols have won 20 consecutive games and have not trailed in a contest since March 13.

Tennessee pitcher Blade Tidwell made his first start during the 2022 season on Tuesday against Lipscomb at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The 6-foot-4, 207-pound sophomore pitched two innings against the Bisons. Tidwell recorded four strikeouts, while surrendering one hit. He faced seven batters.

He made his season debut March 30 in relief against Western Carolina, recording two strikeouts in one inning.

Tidwell led all Tennessee pitchers with 18 starts as a true freshman in 2021. In 2021, he was 10-3 with a 3.74 ERA, while totaling 90 strikeouts in 98.2 innings pitched. His 10 victories in 2021 were the second most by a freshman in program history.

No. 1 Tennessee defeats Lipscomb for 20th straight win.

No. 1 Tennessee won its 20th consecutive game, defeating Lipscomb, 5-1, Tuesday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium before an announced crowd of 3,953.

The victory over the Bisons (15-14, 4-5 A-SUN) avenged Tennessee’s loss in 2021.

Blade Tidwell, who was set to be the Volunteers’ Friday starter before he was sidelined with a preseason shoulder injury, made his first start of the 2022 campaign. He pitched two innings and surrendered one hit, while striking out four.

Tidwell was one of eight pitchers to appear in the game for Tennessee (28-1, 9-0 SEC).

Ben Joyce earned his first win of the season, pitching two innings of scoreless relief. He struck out three.

Mark McLaughlin earned his first save of the campaign, recording the final four outs, all strikeouts. He walked one.

The Vols led 1-0 in the first inning when Jordan Beck scored on a wild pitch.

Beck also had a home run and a triple, going 2-for-3 with two runs. Cortland Lawson also homered for Tennessee.

Luc Lipcius had an RBI single for the Vols in the second inning. Drew Gilbert was 2-for-3 with a double and drove in one run on a sacrifice fly.

The Bisons scored in the eighth inning when Tiger Borum produced a run with a groundout.

No. 1 Tennessee (24-1, 6-0 SEC) defeated Western Carolina (11-14, 0-0 SoCon), 11-1, Wednesday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Sophomore pitcher Blade Tidwell made his season debut against Western Carolina after experiencing shoulder stiffness.

Tidwell pitched one inning and recorded two strikeouts. He surrendered one earned run and two hits.

He entered the contest in the sixth inning with Tennessee leading, 8-0.

Tennessee entered the matchup with Western Carolina ranked No. 1 in six polls, including the USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll.

The Vols will play at No. 5 Vanderbilt, Friday-Sunday, for its third Southeastern Conference series.

Tennessee is the sixth team to make it through the first two weeks of Southeastern Conference play unbeaten since the league went to a 30-game conference schedule in 1996.

Tennessee sophomore pitcher Blade Tidwell has been named a second-team preseason All-America standout by Perfect Game.

Tidwell emerged as one of the Southeastern Conference’s top starting pitchers as a freshman in 2021.

As the Vols’ Sunday starter in SEC play last season, Tidwell went 10-3 and posted a 3.74 ERA.

The Loretto, Tennessee native’s 10 wins last season were the second most by a UT freshman in program history.

The Vols won 50 games in 2021 and were SEC East champions before advancing to the College World Series for the first time since 2005.

Tennessee opens its 2022 season on Feb. 18 against Georgia Southern at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Blade Tidwell pitches three shutout innings in Team USA intrasquad game.

Tennessee pitcher Blade Tidwell made his second appearance for the USA Baseball National Collegiate Team on Saturday.

Tidwell, a sophomore for the Volunteers, combined with two other pitchers in a two-hit shutout as the Stars defeated the Stripes, 7-0, at Hunter Wright Stadium in Kingsport, Tennessee.

Tidwell (1-1) pitched three innings and recorded two strikeouts. He did not allow a hit or walk in his second outing for Team USA, which is in the midst of a series being played in Appalachian League ballparks.

The Appalachian League is in its first season as a summer collegiate league.

Tidwell combined with Miami’s Carson Palmquist and Florida State’s Peter Messick in the shutout for the Stars, who hold a 5-3 lead in the series.

Tennessee’s Drew Gilbert started in center field for the Stripes and went 0-for-3.
