Black Stripe Alert: Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson loses black stripe

Another true freshman officially becomes another member of the Ohio State football team.

Of all the early enrollees at Ohio State, none may have been more ballyhooed than five-star and No. 1 overall ranked running back TreVeyon Henderson. The Virginia native has been turning heads during spring practice drills and now Henderson is an official member of the Buckeye football team.

The Ohio State Football official Twitter account has shown several highlight-reel plays of the freshman phenom during practices so far. And from the looks of things, Henderson is every bit as good as advertised.

Henderson found out the news and shared with his teammates saying

“First, I want to thank God. And I want to thank everyone for pushing me and getting me better. I’m excited to be a Buckeye and I’m excited to be apart of this program. Go Bucks!”

I think it probably goes without saying, but Buckeye Nation is excited to have Henderson as a Buckeye just as much as he’s excited to be in scarlet and gray.

We’re looking forward to seeing big things from this kid in the fall.

Freshman defensive end Jack Sawyer loses his black stripe

Ohio State freshman defensive end Jack Sawyer officially became a part of the program Tuesday when he shed his black stripe.

The hits just keep coming early on during Ohio State’s spring drills. We’ve already seen three players officially become a part of the program by shedding their black stripes so far. The latest of those is one of the biggest and most hyped prospects OSU signed in its 2021 class, five-star defensive end Jack Sawyer.

At 6-foot, 5-inches, and 248-pounds, Sawyer is a man among boys and already at Ohio State take classes and participating in pigskin-related activities on the banks of the Olentangy as an early enrollee. He should still be thinking about high school prom, but instead is getting a jump on what he hopes to be an outstanding career at OSU. He was rated as the No. 3 strongside defensive end and No. 4 overall prospect in the 2021 class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He’s clearly off to a great start judging by how early in his career he’s had the black stripe peeled off of his lid. The moment wasn’t lost on the Pickerington North product either.

“I just want to thank all the coaches, all the older guys for accepting me when I came in here,” Sawyer said. “Happy to be a part of the brotherhood. Go Bucks.”

Black Stripe Alert: Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. sheds black stripe

Marvin Harrison becomes an official Ohio State Buckeye when he lost his black stripe at spring practice on Tuesday. Hear what he had to say.

Another day of spring practice and another fresh face becomes an official Ohio State Buckeye. Marvin Harrison Jr., son of NFL great Marvin Harrison, lost his black stripe today becoming an official member of the team.

It’s odd to believe that when your dad is an NFL Hall of Famer, you might get overshadowed. But that seemed to be the case with Harrison Jr.

Not that he isn’t good. He’s really good. A top 100 player in the country good and the No. 14 ranked wideout in the land according to 247Sports Composite Rankings

But when OSU has been bringing in guys like Emeka Egbuka, the No. 1 ranked receiver in the land, it might be easy to get lost in the shuffle. But don’t sleep on the younger Harrison. He’s got the size and talent to do some special things for the Buckeyes. Oh, and he’s been catching passes in high school from another Ohio State recruit, Kyle McCord.

Just like Pops, Harrison is a man of few words. Listen to what he says after hearing of the honor.

“Shout out to all the coaches. The defense, for making me better every day. Special shout out to Zone 6. Go Bucks!” Harrison said

One thing is for sure, making his point in as few words as possible, has to make dad proud… among other things of course.

Ohio State football announced its first black stripe removal of 2021 and its defensive lineman Jacolbe Cowan.

We usually give these to you in summer camp, but one Ohio State defensive lineman has already begun impressing coaches. Former four-star recruit, Jacolbe Cowan of Charlotte, North Carolina became the first to lose his black stripe and become an official Buckeye on Friday.

“First and foremost, I want to give a thank you to God. Without Him I wouldn’t be able to be in this position. Just from my time being out, I just learned in life you’re going to face obsticles. I already faced a lot of obsticles. It’s all about how you perservere through those obsticles.  I love y’all boys. The reason I came here is because of the brotherhood. Y’all ain’t show me nothing but love ever since I’ve been here. So I appreciate y’all. Go Bucks!” Cowan said

What a great message about fighting through adversity to get where you want to be. Watch Cowan talk to his teammates as he received the honor.

Black Stripe Alert: Wideout Mookie Cooper loses black stripe

Highly touted freshman wideout Mookie Cooper loses his black stripe Tuesday, “officially” becoming a Buckeye.

Another highly touted wide receiver from the class of 2020 lost his black stripe with the Buckeyes Tuesday. Mookie Cooper was a four-star recruit according to 247Sports and listed as the 16th best receiver and 93rd overall player in the nation coming out of high school.

Cooper isn’t the biggest receiver, coming in at 5-foot, 8.5-inches, but is considered to have excellent hands and is elusive after the catch. Some have said Cooper reminds them of Curtis Samuel, which isn’t a bad guy to be compared with.

“I wanna thank the whole zone 6, all the older guys picking me up if I had a bad day and Kalia and all the nutritionist for helping me get my diet right. Go Bucks!” Mookie Cooper

Watch Cooper share his thanks at being welcomed and recognized in the below tweet shared by Ohio State football.

Offensive tackle Paris Johnson, Jr. loses his black stripe

Ohio State had two freshmen lose their black stripes on Wednesday. Five-star offensive tackle Paris Johnson, Jr., was the latest.

You had a feeling this was coming.

We’ve seen nine other freshmen shed their black stripes up until now, but now five-star offensive tackle and top-rated Ohio 2021 prospect Paris Johnson, Jr., has also received the honor.

Johnson came to OSU from Princeton High School in Cincinnati and is expected to be the future of one of the tackle positions in Columbus. He was a highly sought after recruit that almost all of the big-name programs were salivating after, but he eventually decided to stay home with the Buckeyes.

As usual, Johnson had an opportunity to get up and talk to his teammates briefly as his black stripe was being removed by fellow veteran offensive lineman Thayer Munford.

“Hey, I love being out here with y’all every day,” Johnson said. “I love my unit and the defense that gets me right every day, and the coaching staff. Buckeyes!”

Safety Lathan Ransom becomes latest to lose black stripe

Ohio State freshman defensive back Lathan Ransom became the third Buckeye to lose his black stripe on Saturday. Watch the ceremony here.

Highly-rated safety Lathan Ransom was the third Ohio State freshman to shed his black stripe Saturday. He came to Ohio State from Arizona and was the No. 1 overall rated safety in the 2020 class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

At 6-foot, 2-inches, and 200-pounds, Ransom is one of the youngest in the class – he just turned 18 this past July. With that in mind, Ransom still has room to grow and most assuredly will with the help of strength coach Mickey Marotti, looking to become next in the long line of B.I.A. (Best in America).

“I just want to thank the whole team, the whole defense, I wanna thank B.I.A. and Go Bucks!”, said Ransom.

Watch Ransom shout out to his team and his secondary teammates courtesy of the Ohio State Football Twitter account.

Ransom becomes the eighth freshmen and ninth overall newcomer to lose his black stripe including, Josh Fryar, Miyan Williams, Trey Sermon, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Kourt Williams, Gee Scott, Jr., and Julian Fleming.
