Bills fans donate to Lamar Jackson’s favorite charity after injury

Buffalo Bills Mafia fans donate to Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson’s favorite charity after injury in AFC Divisional round.

The Bills beat the Ravens in the AFC Divisional round and while it’s something Buffalo couldn’t control, no one really liked seeing what happened to Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson.

On the final play of the third quarter, Jackson tracked down a bad snap and ran backward. He eventually was knocked by Bills defenders Tremaine Edmunds and Trent Murphy with clean hits. However, Jackson’s head caught the turf and he had to exit the game.

According to Ravens Wire, Jackson did fly back to Baltimore last night with his teammates. He didn’t return to the game though, a contest which went down as a 17-3 final.

Always humble, fans of the Bills did what they’re known best for in recent years. They donated to Jackson’s favorite charity, Blessings in a Backpack, as a way to send well-wishes to the QB. As mentioned, Western New York is happy their Bills won, but nobody wanted to see that.

Some folks suggested donating in $8 increments because of Jackson’s number. As of early Sunday afternoon, per WKBW-TV in Buffalo, the charitable organization received near $75,000 in donations in Jackson’s name.

Further donations can be made on Blessings in a Backpack here, but regardless, it’s already a fantastic gesture from The City of Good Neighbors.

LOOK: Josh Allen caught in background of now iconic Bills photo

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen in background of photo after CB Taron Johnson interception vs. Baltimore Ravens in AFC Divisional round.

The play heard ’round the word on Saturday was made by Buffalo Bills cornerback Taron Johnson. In the third quarter of his team’s AFC Divisional round meeting with the Baltimore Ravens, he scored.

Naturally, context is everything.

The touchdown for Johnson came moments after his team had just put up the game’s first touchdown on offense. The Ravens were successfully responding and Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson was cruising. Then Johnson ended all that as he jumped in front of Jackson’s pass in his own end zone and took it 101 yards all the way to the other end of the field, putting Buffalo up 17-3.

That’s the way the game ended.

Johnson explained after the final whistle that he did consider taking a knee and decided against it. In doing so, Buffalo’s offense would’ve taken the ball after the touchback. Good thing he didn’t. Because not only did he score, he helped create what could go down as the most iconic photo in Bills history.

Johnson took off down the right sideline. He’s a fast guy, but Baltimore’s quarterback is, without a doubt, faster. But Jackson cannot go through people and cornerback Tre’Davious White, the cornerstone of Buffalo’s defense, blocked the QB trying to stop Johnson as the image shows.

However, the best part of the photo might be in the background. There we see Bills quarterback Josh Allen on the sideline. He looks stunned and jolted with excitement watching the play as he’s jumping up and down on the sideline cheering for Johnson.

An iconic snapshot. Look for the No. 17:

Allen’s excitement comes from a desire to win, of course. Whether it’s the QB scoring himself or his defense, he’ll take it. What perhaps really got him going was the roller coaster of emotions he went through. Allen explained following the game via video conference that he did not want Johnson to take the ball out of the end zone. He thought the defensive back was going to get tackled.

“I saw him come out of the end zone, usually when there’s a lot of bodies around you want to stay in [the end zone], so I was like ‘Dang it, he’s going to get tackled at the five or 10,” Allen said.

Good thing Johnson didn’t do what his QB wanted… and Allen’s happy he didn’t as well. Allen, like everyone, was thoroughly impressed by what went down. Not just with Johnson’s work, but what White did, too.

“I’ll tell you what, Tre White to go out and get a block on Lamar to spring (Johnson) free… I mean, it’s unbelievable,” Allen added. “Just an unbelievable play, just one of those plays that will be remembered for a really long time.”

As of now, the picture is an iconic snapshot. But exactly how iconic it becomes is still to be determined with how far the Bills keep on rolling.

John Harbaugh tells Sean McDermott to ‘win the whole thing’ postgame

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh tells Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott to “win the whole thing” postgame.

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott topped a long-time friend on Saturday to advance to the AFC Championship game. Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh and him go way back.

The pair were on Andy Reid’s coaching staff prior to their current roles back in the day while the current Kansas City Chiefs coach was running the show with the Philadelphia Eagles. While Harbaugh naturally wanted to win, he was happy for his pal.

At the podium during his postgame pressure, Harbaugh said “congrats to the Bills” right away. But the true emotion can be found when the cameras aren’t on… or at least when guys don’t think they are.

After the game in the traditional sense, Harbaugh and McDermott shook hands at midfield. Hot mics caught Harbaugh telling McDermott to “go win the whole thing” after Buffalo’s 17-3 win.

Check out the exchange below:

Where the “whole thing” goes next we’re still unsure. On Sunday, the Chiefs host the Cleveland Browns in the other half of the AFC Divisional round. The winner of the game faces Buffalo for a spot in this year’s Super Bowl.

5 takeaways from the Bills’ 17-3 win over the Ravens

Five takeaways from the Buffalo Bills’ win over the Baltimore Ravens in AFC Divisional round.

The Buffalo Bills are going to the AFC Championship.

A 17-3 win over the Baltimore Ravens, as the score suggests, wasn’t exactly a high-flying offensive showcase that we’ve come to expect during the 2020 season. A win is a win, though.

With that, here are five takeaways from the Bills’ win over the Ravens in the AFC Divisional round:

What is running the ball?

A big headline coming into the game was the Bills’ backfield situation. What would happen without Zack Moss in the lineup? In the Wild Card round against the Colts, the Bills lost the rookie due to an ankle injury. Upon further review, his season was deemed over.

Devin Singletary was dubbed the guy that would step up in his place… but he didn’t exactly do that.

Scratch that, he didn’t really even get a chance to do so.

The Bills decided to nearly take the rushing game out of their offensive playbook completely, especially in the first half of the game. In the first 30 minutes of the game, Singletary was given the ball once on the ground which came just before the half.

This was no slight against Singletary, though. This was the plan by Buffalo offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. He decided that the Ravens run defense, who held 2,000-yard rush for the Titans, Derrick Henry, to 40 yards was too good.

While the game was tight early, it paid off.

Singletary finished the game with seven carries and 25 yards. Quarterback Josh Allen, often mobile himself, only had three yards rushing. Overall for the game, the QB had 37 pass attempts and was 23-for-37 passing with one score in the air. For once, the Bills didn’t win because of him, but they didn’t need to.

Who knew that’d be such a welcoming sight?

WATCH: 101-yard pick-six for Bills’ Taron Johnson on Lamar Jackson

Buffalo Bills CB Taron Johnson has pick-six interception on Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson.

Well that turned in a hurry, didn’t it?

Out of halftime, the Buffalo Bills marched down the field on offense and went up 10-3, scoring the AFC Division round’s first touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens. Josh Allen hit Stefon Diggs on that touchdown pass.

The Ravens then marched down toward Buffalo’s red zone on their ensuing drive and Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson looked poised to tie the game.

Enter Taron Johnson.

The Bills cornerback recorded his second pick-six interception of the postseason. Jumping in front of a pass intended for tight end Mark Andrews. Johnson went 101-yard to the house to put the Bills up 17-3 in the third quarter.
