Bills has most states backing them on Championship Sunday

Buffalo Bills have the most states backing them on Championship Sunday.

The Buffalo Bills were once dubbed by Terrell Owens famously as “North America’s team.”

For at least a weekend, the Bills can drop the first word.

CBS Sports recently did some research into who is rooting for who to win the Super Bowl heading into Championship Sunday between the four teams that are remaining in the NFL postseason. Along with the Bills and Chiefs, we have the Packers and Bucs to consider as well over in the NFC.

According to CBS, the team that’s far and away the No. 1 team being rooted for this weekend is the Bills:

This probably has something to do with Buffalo’s underdog persona heading into this weekend. The Chiefs are the defending champs, but the Bucs and Packers have also won Super Bowls before. Heck, the Packers even dub their home “Title Town.”

Taking a look into the logistics of the map, we do have a few interesting notes. In regard to the Bucs, it looks like a nice chunk of the New England area is in Bucs red. Some Tom Brady fans evidently still survive there.

On the Bills, one state in particular, which is actually Chiefs red, very, very interesting. It’s Wyoming. Bills quarterback Josh Allen attended college at the University of Wyoming.

Finally, let’s just note that there are Bills fans in Hawaii.

Who knew?

Bills at Chiefs: 3 key matchups in AFC Championship

Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, three matchups to watch in AFC Championship game.

The Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs will meet in the AFC Championship game where a spot in the Super Bowl is on the line. Throughout the week, the lightning rods for attention with be the game’s two starting quarterbacks, Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes.

While deservedly so as two of the game’s most-promising young stars, football is an 11-on-11 contest. The stakes might be higher than ever, but it’s still the little games within the game that will make all the difference.

With that, here are three key matchups to watch in Sunday’s AFC title bout as Buffalo heads to Kansas City:

Josh Allen joined exclusive crew with Ben Roethlisberger, Patrick Mahomes

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen joins exclusive group with Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger, Kansas City QB Patrick Mahomes.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen sits in a ring of quarterbacks that only includes two others in terms of postseason play. One we’ll see very soon, too.

According to NFL Research, Allen joined upcoming opponent Patrick Mahomes from 2019 and Ben Roethlisberger in 2005 as the only QBs under the age of 25 with multiple wins and a 100+ passer rating in a single postseason.

On Sunday, the Bills (13-3) face a big test in Mahomes and the Chiefs (14-2). Both teams are expected to put on an offensive shootout in the contest as their teams finished second and first in the total offense in the 2020 regular season, respectively.

But if there’s one thing on Allen’s side, it’s this. In 2019 and 2005 when Mahomes and Roethlisberger also pulled off this feat, they both went on to win the Super Bowl.

Kansas City mayor already talking Super Bowl parade before playing Bills

Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas discusses Super Bowl parade prior to Chiefs even playing Buffalo Bills in AFC Championship.

The Kansas City Chiefs have made zero references to planning a parade to celebrate a second straight Super Bowl victory. That didn’t stop the local government, though.

On Sunday, the Chiefs will host the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game. Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas evidently does not believe in jinxes – or he’s overlooking the Bills, and to an extent, the Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Bucs.

On Tuesday during a daily briefly, Lucas discussed an upcoming Super Bowl parade not going down in the traditional sense because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Doing so is a smart decision.

Saying that despite the Chiefs being two games two wins away from having to plan a parade? Uh, that’s bold.

“A Chiefs parade, in the classic sense as we knew it, is highly unlikely, indeed won’t happen,” Lucas said via the Kansas City Star. “There will be different ways that we come up with to try to celebrate.”

“Don’t get me wrong, I am so excited about the Chiefs playoff run,” he added. “House parties, a lot of the things that we actually thought could be concerns during the holiday season, come in this sort of holiday season part two.”

A smart gesture in terms of health and safety, yes.

But again, maybe a little soon for that, Quinton?

Don’t be surprised if this is some bulletin board material at One Bills Drive this week.

Bills at Chiefs: Wednesday injury update for QB Patrick Mahomes

Injury updates for Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes ahead of Buffalo Bills matchup in AFC Championship.

The latest health update on Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, ahead of his team’s AFC title bout with the Buffalo Bills, was another positive one.

On Tuesday, reports suggested that Mahomes would practice on hump day. Adding another 24 hours to that, it appears that will hold true.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Mahomes will have a “very light practice” on Wednesday. The report suggests that Mahomes still could be listed as a limited player in practice or a did not participant on injury reports despite that light work. Considering the NFL’s concussion protocol, that could indicate Mahomes is doing individual work.

In addition, Mahomes will reportedly “ramp up” work in practice as the week continues. That also goes hand-in-hand with the league’s concussion protocol policies, which essentially is a day-by-day process.

Later on Wednesday, both the Bills and Chiefs will release their first injury reports ahead of the AFC Championship Game. Bills Wire will provide that information when it becomes available, so be sure to check back here.

Why Buffalo Will Win The AFC Championship

You really think Patrick Mahomes is right?

He’s expected to play – at least that’s the hope after passing several tests and checkmarks early in the week – but even if he’s able to go will he still be at 100% full strength?

Chad Henne is a fine, restaurant-quality veteran, but – duh – Patrick Mahomes is Patrick Mahomes.

Even if No. 15 is just fine and back to normal, it’s not like the Chief offense is operating at peak efficiency. Yeah, it was ripping up and down the field before Mahomes got hurt against Cleveland, but that was a bit of an aberration over the second half of the season.

Maybe the O was just saving itself for when it was Game On, but counting the 22-17 victory in the Divisional Round, the last time the Chiefs won a game by more than six points was back on November 1st – Week 8 – against the Jets.

Even in the Week 6 win over the Bill, KC managed to put up a whole lot of yards, but struggled to put the biscuit in the basket in the 26-17 win.

The Buffalo defense is a whole lot better since then.

The run defense got ripped up in the first meeting, and there have been a few issues here and there, but even when there’s been bending there hasn’t been a ton of breaking. The Bills haven’t allowed more than 26 points in any of the last eight games – all wins.

The defense has to hold KC to field goals like Cleveland was able to do last week – the Chiefs settled for four attempts, hitting three – and the offense that leads the NFL in third down conversions has to keep things moving because …

Bills Championship matchup: Everything to know about the Chiefs

Everything to know about Buffalo Bills’ upcoming opponent in AFC Championship Game in the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Buffalo Bills can see it now and there’s one team that’s in their way: The Kansas City Chiefs.

One step away from advancing to their first Super Bowl since their streak of four straight, the Bills have a big task ahead. In potentially advancing to the final game played in the NFL this season, Buffalo (13-3) will have to beat the team that won that exact game just a year ago.

But the Chiefs (14-2) have a distinct difference about them as opposed to Buffalo’s first two opponents in the postseason. The Bills already played the Chiefs just this season,

Still, a lot has changed for both since then, so let’s do an early-week deep dive on the Bills’ upcoming opponent now. Here’s everything to know about Kansas City ahead of the AFC Championship Game:
