Andrews is the first Husker softball player to receive such an honor since 2016. She is the first Nebraska player to be named an All-American and Academic All-American in the same season since Kim Ogee in 2002.

Andrews is the 23rd player in Cornhusker history to be named an Academic All-American. That brings Nebraska’s total number of Academic All-Americans to 31, which leads the Big Ten and ranks third nationally.

In 2024, Andrew hit .383 with 18 home runs and 45 RBIs. She also carried a 3.86 grade-point average while earning a degree in graphic design last month.

Husker All-American signs professional softball contract

Billie Andrews signed with Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball on Wednesday.

A two-time All-American shortstop has signed a professional softball contract. Billie Andrews signed with Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball on Wednesday.

Andrews was one of four rookies added to the 42-player roster for the upcoming season that begins on June 10. She joins the league after an accomplished career in Lincoln.

In 208 games, she hit .347 with 61 home runs and 157 RBIs. Andrews also held a .432 on-base percentage, a .679 slugging percentage, and 1.111 OPS for her Nebraska career.

The two-time All-American is Nebraska’s all-time home run leader. She is also second in extra-base hits, total bases, and slugging percentage.

The upcoming season will begin on June 10 at Wilkins Stadium in Wichita, Kansas.

Andrews is the 10th two-time All-American in Nebraska history. This past season, she hit .383 with ten doubles, two triples, 18 home runs, and 45 RBIs. She led Nebraska in batting average, hits, extra-base hits, home runs, RBIs, runs, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage.

The Gretna, Nebraska native was also a first-team All-American, a three-time all-region selection, and a four-time All-Big Ten member. Andrews was also Nebraska’s Female Student-Athlete of the Year in 2024 after being named the Husker Female Athlete of the Year in 2022.

Three Nebraska softball players earned all-region honors on Saturday. Shortstop Billie Andrews, third baseman Sydney Gray, and catcher Ava Bredwell earned the accolades from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Andrews earned all-region honors for the third straight season. She’s also a four-time all-conference honoree.

The shortstop hit .383 this season with ten doubles, two triples, 18 home runs and 45 RBIs. She ended her Nebraska third all-time in slugging percentage, fourth in home runs, fifth in extra-base hits, and seventh in runs scored.

Gray received all-region honors for the second time in her career. She hit .286 on the season with 12 homers runs and 41 RBIs.

Bredwell was named to the all-region team for the first time in her career. She had a .329 batting average with 14 doubles, eight home runs and 29 RBIs.

The Nebraska softball team finished the 2023 season with a record of 30-23 and a 12-9 mark in the Big Ten Conference.

In two games at the Big Ten Tournament, she went 6-for-7 with three home runs and six RBIs. Andrews also scored four runs with a .875 on-base percentage with a 2.143 slugging percentage.

In Nebraska’s quarterfinal win against Minnesota, the shortstop went 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs. In the team’s semi-final round loss against Indiana, Andrews posted an impressive 4-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.

Andrews was also recently named first-team All-Big Ten.

Andrews is the eighth Husker to be a four-time all-conference pick. On the season, she hit .363 with 61 hits, 10 doubles, 15 home runs, 51 runs, 39 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases in 47 games.

Joining Andrews with all-conference honors are Sydney Gray (second-team), Samatha Bland (all-freshman), and Mckinnley Malecha (Sportsmanship Award).

Nebraska’s record is now 30-23, with a 12-9 mark in conference play, following its defeat in the Big Ten Tournament’s semi-finals.

Huskers fall 9-5 in extra innings to Indiana in Big Ten Semi-Finals

Nebraska moves to a 30-23 record and will await its fate for the College Softball World Series.

The Nebraska softball team squared off against Indiana in the Big Ten Semi-Finals. The Huskers and Hoosiers’ battle needed an extra-inning with the seventh ending in a 3-3 tie. Unfortunately for Nebraska, the eighth inning ended its Big Ten run.

Indiana erupted in the extra inning, delivering six runs to jump to a 9-3 lead. The Huskers took a 3-0 lead over the Hoosiers before Indiana scored nine straight. Nebraska attempted to bounce back in the bottom of the eighth, even getting a two-run home run from Peyton Cody. But the Huskers could not erase the deficit.

Billie Andrews led Nebraska in hitting, finishing the game 4-for-4 with two RBIs, which occurred in the second off a two-run home run. Ava Bredwell also delivered a home run in the first to put Nebraska on the board. The Huskers concluded the afternoon with just six hits, while Indiana hit 11 to tally up its nine runs.

Nebraska moves to a 30-23 record and will await its fate for the College Softball World Series. The Selection Show is set for Sunday night at 7 p.m. and can be viewed on ESPN2. The College Softball World Series Regionals will then commence on Thursday.

The Huskers kicked off the postseason with their Big Ten quarter-final game against Minnesota on Thursday afternoon.

The Huskers kicked off the postseason with their Big Ten quarter-final game against Minnesota on Thursday afternoon. Nebraska took off in its opening round, delivering 11 runs to take down the Golden Gophers in five innings.

Though Minnesota struck first, hitting a solo home run of its first at-bat, the Huskers responded with an 11-1 run. Nebraska finished the game with eight hits, including three home runs.

Billie Andrews led the Huskers in the batter’s box, delivering two home runs for four RBIs. Andrews’ second home run occurred in the fifth, putting the game away as she shifted Nebraska’s lead from 8-2 to 11-2.

Emmerson Cope also delivered a multi-run shot over the wall. Cope hit a two-run home run following Minnesota’s 1-0 start, immediately handing the Huskers the lead.

Brooke Andrews and Sydney Gray each pitched in a hit for an RBI. Brooke earned an RBI off a fielder’s choice, while Gray hit an RBI single in the fourth.

Ava Bredwell and Caitlynn Neal also earned RBIs, each coming off a sacrificial fly. Sarah Harness earned the win in the circle, facing 20 batters and only surrendered two runs.

Nebraska will face Indiana in the semi-final game on Friday afternoon. The first pitch is set for 4 p.m. The winner will either play Michigan, Wisconsin or Rutgers in the championship game.

Nebraska improves to 28-21 on the season and 11-8 in conference, moving up to third place in the Big Ten standings.

The Huskers traveled to Minnesota Friday for its final regular season series before entering the Big Ten Tournament. Nebraska traded blows with the Golden Gophers and managed to fend them off in the end to take game one 7-6.

The Huskers led 2-0 following the top of the first thanks to back-to-back home runs by Sydney Gray and Emmerson Cope, the duos’ only RBIs of the game. Nebraska produced 11 hits on the day, including four in the fourth, when it scored five runs to take a 7-4 lead over Minnesota.

The Golden Gophers finished the game with eight hits, including three in the seventh during their two-run rally, which cut Nebraska’s lead to 7-6. Sarah Harness earned the win for the Huskers in the pitching circle by allowing only two runs in 5.1 innings of relief.

Offensively, Samantha Bland led Nebraska with two RBIs, both coming off a double in the fourth. Billie Andrews, Ava Bredwell, Bella Bacon, and Brooke Andrews each pitched in one RBI of their own.

Monster fifth inning leads to Nebraska’s 10-2 win over Penn State

The bats came alive on Saturday afternoon.

The Nebraska softball team entered its second game of the series against Penn State on Saturday afternoon. The Huskers bounced back from their 2-1 loss to the Nittany Lions on Friday night by delivering a monster fifth inning, earning a 10-2 win.

Nebraska finished the game with nine hits to earn its ten runs. In the fifth inning, the Huskers delivered seven of their runs off five hits, ending the game in five innings. Penn State scored its two runs in the fourth, cutting Nebraska’s lead to 3-2 before the Huskers’ fifth-inning surge.

Peyton Cody led Nebraska in hitting and RBIs, finishing the day with two hits and three RBIs. Caitlynn Neal earned two RBIs in the win, hitting a two-RBI double in the fifth. Billie Andrews capped off the fifth inning with a two-run home run.

Sarah Harness earned the win in the circle, pitching for 3.0 innings and facing ten batters. Harness threw two strikeouts and surrendered one hit and one run. Kaylin Kinney got the save for Nebraska, going three-up, three-down in the fifth.

The Huskers improve to 23-14 on the season and 6-1 in conference play. Nebraska will conclude the series against Penn State on Sunday. The first pitch is set for noon and can be viewed on B1G+.
