Big Ten media poll released for upcoming football season

MSU isn’t thought of very highly in the first Big Ten media poll:

Fall camp is coming and the 2024-25 season is on the way, the first for Jonathan Smith with Michigan State football.

As many fans know going into the upcoming season, the national media is not very high on the Spartans and many think that Smith will fall flat on his face in year one.

That sentiment was evident in the Big Ten media poll released by Clevelanddotcom, where the Spartans came in at No. 16.

Big Ten media released 2023 preseason football poll

The annual Big Ten preseason media poll has been released for the 2023 football season.

The annual Big Ten preseason media poll for the 2023 football season has been released. Cleveland.com made the announcement the day before the conference is scheduled to begin its annual media days on Wednesday in Indianapolis.

This season is the final year that the Big Ten will feature East and West Divisions. The 2024 campaign will also see the addition of USC and UCLA to the league.

This year’s edition of the poll sees the Michigan Wolverines as the frontrunner in the east, receiving 27 of 37 first-place votes. Wisconsin has a narrow edge over Iowa, receiving 20 first-place votes to the Hawkeye’s 16 first-place votes.

You can find the entire preseason poll from Big Ten media below.

Where did Michigan State land in the Big Ten preseason football media poll?

The Big Ten football media professionals have once again weighed in on who will win the conference this year

The Big Ten football media professionals have once again weighed in on who will win the conference this year.

For a 12th straight year, Cleveland.com has released their annual Big Ten preseason media poll that tasks nearly 40 writers with predicting where each team will finish in the conference this year. Each writer was asked to vote 1-7 in both divisions, with first-place votes worth seven points, second-place votes worth six and so on.

By no surprise, Ohio State is the unanimous selection to win the Big Ten but where did Michigan State come in?

Check out the results from this year’s poll below:

Iowa Hawkeyes 2nd in the Big Ten West 2022 media preseason poll

The Big Ten preseason media poll has been released. While very top-heavy between the East and West, there aren’t too many surprises.

The Big Ten preseason media poll has officially released and the conference doesn’t seem to have too many believers in things getting upside down or going haywire. There is a belief that each division, the East and West, are really a two or three team race when all is said and done.

It should come as no shock that the West features the Iowa Hawkeyes and  Wisconsin Badgers as potential favorites. The third team receiving votes, the Minnesota Golden Gophers, are a bit of a dark horse but have proven to find a way to win games and stay competitive late in the season in the Big Ten West.

While they are the defending champions of the West, the Hawkeyes only received three votes to win the West. In what feels like the much more wide open side of the Big Ten, it feels as this gap could prove to be a little bit wide when the conference shakes out in late November.

On the other side of the conference, the media has unanimously chosen the Ohio State Buckeyes to win the West. They did lose to the eventual overall Big Ten champions, the Michigan Wolverines last year, but all signs very strongly point to the Buckeyes being not just the strongest contender to win the Big Ten, but potentially the entire country for a national championship.

One team that didn’t receive any votes and has some momentum surrounding them is the Purdue Boilermakers. They have been gaining some steam the last few years and while they may be a little bit off of taking home the Big Ten West, they are certainly a team that can be expected to make noise and play a vital part in determining either side of the conference by upsetting teams or stealing a game they shouldn’t have won.
