Big Ten and big game expert picks and predictions, Week 2

We’re moving on to Week 2 with our expert picks against the spread and straight-up for Big Ten games and the big six of the week.

And. We. Are. Off. Every year we have a little friendly competition among our writers for world domination when it comes to picking Big Ten and some of the bigger college football games.

We’ll bring you our expert picks and predictions on all the league games against the spread, and straight-up throughout the season. Also, as an added bonus you didn’t know you even craved, we’ll throw in six of the top games across the college football slate for the week. We’re the judge and jury on that one, and if there’s a tie, George Washington decides it via the old-fashioned coin flip.

So off we go for the 2021 season, one that looks like it will be much more normal than what we saw last year. The winner gets an all-expenses-paid pat on the back, so let’s get to it.

As a reminder, if there’s an asterisk next to the pick, that means the team will win, but not cover.

EXAMPLE:
– If you think Ohio State will win minus-3.5 over Michigan: OSU
– If you think Ohio State will win outright: OSU
– If you think Ohio State will win, but NOT cover: OSU*

Here are our expert picks for Week 2, but first, our results after an eventful Week 1.

@MarkRussell1975: 13-4 SU, 10-7 ATS

Time to kick off the Buckeyes Wire Big Ten and big game college football picks

It’s time to go on the record and kick off our picks against the spread and straight up with our picks of the lone Big Ten game this week.

If you’ve followed Buckeyes Wire for the last couple of seasons, then you know we like to have a little healthy competition among friends. We pick every Big Ten game straight up and against the spread, then do the same for what we judge to be the six biggest games of the week.

And … since college football has now officially kicked off, we’re teeing it up once again. The real fun and complete slate of games don’t begin until next week, but we at least have to get things going by picking the winner of Nebraska and Illinois.

It’s a rare chance to go one-for-one in both chances straight-up and against the spread and kick off the season undefeated. There’s a long way to go, but stay with us to get our “expert” advice early each game week.

Here’s what the three writers say about Illinois vs. Nebraska.

Game line: Nebraska -6.5 at Illinois

Phil Harrison

Nebraska wins and covers

Mark Russell

Nebraska wins, does not cover

Josh Keatley

Nebraska wins and covers

So there it is on the record. Let the slaps on the back, mudslinging, and sideways glares begin for the trio of writers on our site. Check back early next week for the full picks for next week’s games, including Ohio State’s trip to Minnesota.
