Nebraska soccer returned home following a two-match road trip out east for a showdown against Rutgers on Thursday night. The Huskers and Scarlet Knights battled it out throughout the match, but neither managed to pull away with the win, resulting in a 2-2 draw.

All four goals came in the first half, with Rutgers taking the lead each time and Nebraska responding. The Huskers’ offense continued its aggression it’s been carrying all season, finishing the match with 30 total shots, 11 on goal. So far this season, Nebraska averages 21.6 total shots per game and 10.4 shots on goal per game.

Eleanor Dale remains the Huskers’ leader offensively, scoring both goals for the team in the tie to add to her season total of 15. Dale’s goals, as mentioned earlier, helped Nebraska erase the deficits it had against Rutgers. Dale’s first goal can solely from her, but her second goal came off the assists from Ella Rudney and Emma Prososki.

Nebraska concludes the month of September 3-2-2 to bring its season record to 7-2-3. The Huskers head back out east for their next match, visiting Northwestern to start the month of October. The match begins at 2 p.m. on Oct. 1 and can be viewed on B1G+.

Husker soccer falls short against No. 4 Penn State

Husker soccer falls short against No. 4 Penn State

Nebraska soccer continued its trek out east to face its biggest test so far this season, No. 4 Penn State. On a rainy Sunday afternoon, the Huskers battled it out with the Nittany Lions in a defensive battle. Nebraska’s fight came up short as Penn State walked away with a 1-0 victory to remain undefeated.

The Nittany Lions’ only goal of the game came with just over 10 minutes left in the match. Senior Cori Dyke scored for Penn State off a free kick, which ended up being the play of the game. It was one of just three shots on goal for the Nittany Lions in the match, despite having 13 total shots. Nebraska’s stats were similar, finishing with five shots on goals off 15 total shots.

Eleanor Dale led the Huskers with six shots in the match with one on goal. Sadie Waite and Sarah Weber both finished with three shots. Waite shot two on goal while Weber shot one on goal.

The Huskers fall to 7-2-2 on the season and will return home to host Rutgers on Thursday. The match is set to begin at 7:05 p.m. and can be viewed on Big Ten Network.

LOOK: One writer picks Michigan State hockey to win Big Ten Conference

One writer is picking Michigan State to win the Big Ten in 2023-24:

The Adam Nightingale era of Michigan State hockey has taken off and it is running in full swing as he enters his second season. The Spartans have a lot of hype heading into the second year of Nightingale, and rightfully so, as the head man in East Lansing has brought in a ton of talent via the transfer portal and recruiting.

James Murray of Everything College Hockey is buying into the hype, stating that he believes the Spartans are set to win the regular season Big Ten championship:

Nebraska soccer ties with Wisconsin 1-1

After starting off 6-1-1, the Nebraska soccer team finally entered the conference portion of the season.

After starting 6-1-1, the Nebraska soccer team finally entered the conference portion of the season. The Huskers started things off with a showdown at home against Wisconsin on Friday night. After a low-scoring match, by Nebraska standards, the Huskers ended the night with a tie, drawing to the Badgers 1-1.

Eleanor Dale again gave Nebraska a goal in the draw, scoring nation-leading number 13 just 13 minutes into the match. Dale earned her goal off an assist from junior defender Jordan Zade. However, the Huskers’ high-powered offense was tamed throughout the night, only having eight shots. This allowed Wisconsin to try and force a tie and even take the lead.

But despite the Badgers’ outshooting Nebraska, finishing with 11 shots, their equalizer didn’t occur until the 88th minute, allowing both teams to walk away with the draw.

Nebraska also saw a few historical moments in the match. It welcomed back the 2013 Big Ten Champions and even had the second-highest attendance in Barbara Hibner Stadium history, with 1,771 fans attending the match.

The Huskers are now 6-1-2 on the season and will have nearly a week of preparation for their next match. They will travel east to take on Ohio State on Thursday night. The match is set for 6 p.m. and can be viewed on the Big Ten Network.

Big Ten Power Rankings: Week 2

Where does the Big Ten stand after two weeks of football?

Where does the Big Ten stand after two weeks of football? While we don’t yet have a complete picture, we do know a little more about each of the conference’s 14 teams.

Michigan remains in the top spot and continues to look like the very best the conference has to offer. Even with a victory in week two, the Northwestern Wildcats hold their spot in last place.

The conference is now in the process of winding down its non-conference schedule over the next couple of weeks. Once conference play begins, we should start to have a more clear picture of who the best of the best are in the Big Ten.

Big Ten and Big 12 travel comparisons on the new college realignment map

Making travel plans? Consult these distances (and some comparisons) between localities in the new conference maps.

Our friends at Ducks Wire are getting used to what life will be like in the Big Ten. It’s weird and it will require an adjustment, but this is the reality we are about to step into.

“Whether you love the news or hate the news, it appears the future has been set, and the Ducks will join the USC Trojans, UCLA Bruins and Washington Huskies in a conference with Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State.

What a brave new world.

Fans in the Pac-12 footprint will have to make adjustments to the Big Ten and Big 12 if they are to plan road trips to see their favorite football team play. Fans will have to be selective in the trips they take, picking their spots and making sure that when schedules rotate, they get the games they either want or feel they can reasonably make (or both).

Let’s provide some distances and comparisons for the new Big Ten and the new Big 12:

Big Ten Meet n’ Greet: Getting to know Iowa with Hawkeyes Wire

Oregon fans, meet the Iowa Hawkeyes. They are a program steeped in tradition with the longest-tenured coach in the nation.

With the news that both the Oregon Ducks and Washington Huskies are going to be leaving the Pac-12 Conference a year from now and joining the Big Ten Conference, we decided that it is time for Oregon fans to learn a bit more about their future home.

Not only do Duck fans need to know a bit more about the history of the Big Ten, but they also need to learn about the teams that occupy the conference.

Fortunately, the USA TODAY College Wires’ network is ripe with journalists who cover the Big Ten. Whether it’s the Ohio State Buckeyes, Michigan Wolverines, or Penn State Nittany Lions, we have access to some of the top reporters in the region who know their teams inside and out. To help learn about each team, we sat down for a Q&A with the numerous site editors in the Big Ten.

Check out our Q&A with: — Nebraska — Ohio State —

The Oregon Ducks and Iowa Hawkeyes represent two drastically different philosophies in the world of college football.

While Oregon’s main football tradition is the idea of change and ingenuity, the opposite could be said for Iowa. Head coach Kirk Ferentz has been with the Hawkeyes since 1999, and he stands as the longest-tenured college football head coach. Contrarily, Oregon has now had six head coaches since Ferentz has been at Iowa.

Despite the differences, both the Ducks and Hawkeyes have a tradition of winning. Iowa has 13 conference championships to its name and five national championships from back in the 20th century. The two teams have only met a handful of times on the gridiron, with Oregon holding a 2-1 series advantage.

To help give us a better sense of who the Hawkeyes are, and what some of the Iowa fans think about the Oregon Ducks, we sat down with Josh Helmer, the managing editor of USA TODAY’s Hawkeyes Wire. Here is that conversation:
