Badger football fans ranked average for overall passion in Big Ten

Badger fans may not like this one, but Big Game Boomer ranked each of the Big Ten fan bases by level of passion, rating them in the middle.

Badger football fans may not like this one, but Big Game Boomer ranked each of the Big Ten fan bases by level of passion Tuesday and left Wisconsin fans near the middle. Badger fans came in seventh.

Once again, Big Game Boomer is off base with this one. Sure, Nebraska “sells out” every one of its football games, but few fan bases go to bat for their team like the Badgers’ do.

Yes, the 2022 season was a down year for Wisconsin, but the hype leading up to the 2023 campaign has proven fans are as passionate as ever. I’ll give Boomer the benefit of the doubt in his ranking of Ohio State and Penn State above Wisconsin, because there is nothing else to do in those college towns! (Especially State College)

Considering the fact there were more Badger football fans at the Las Vegas Bowl than Arizona State fans in 2021 and there were more Wisconsin fans in Arizona for the Guaranteed Rate Bowl than there were Oklahoma State fans this past December, Badger fans love their team!

At least the Badgers ranked third among the Big Ten West schools and after Wisconsin has an extremely successful season in 2023 (prediction), Boomer will have to reconsider what fan bases are the most passionate.

Twitter user: Notre Dame plays two of 10 most important games in 2023

The Irish have a soft schedule, huh?

We all are looking forward to Notre Dame’s 2023 season, but two games in particular are circled on everyone’s calendar. The Irish host Ohio State on Sept. 23 and then don’t return home until they face USC on Oct. 14. It goes without saying that at least one game likely will have big College Football Playoff implications. Now, we know exactly how important both games are, at least according Twitter college sports list aficionado Big Game Boomer:

The fact the the Irish are independent might have something to do with the fact that only appear once outside the top 10 the list. Regardless, it’s a reminder of how tough a schedule the Irish have if they want to make the playoff in the final year of its current format. They most definitely will need to at least split these two games to have a shot at the playoff. Being swept will kill any chance they might still have at that point.

So the next time someone tries to tell you the Irish never really play anybody and thus don’t deserve to go to the playoff ever, just show them this list. Hopefully, that shuts them up for at least this season.

Notre Dame-Marshall named third-worst Group of Five loss in CFP era

Like you needed a reminder of how bad that loss was.

We all knew that when Notre Dame lost to Marshall in Week 2 of the 2022 season, any College Football Playoff hopes for the year were cooked. But just how bad was it in the big picture? Well, Twitter user Big Game Boomer has offered one opinion. The college football list aficionado lists the Irish’s 26-21 loss to the Thundering Herd as the third-worst loss by any Power Five program to a Group of Five program since the College Football Playoff began:

The good news for the Irish is that they appear only once on this list. But the fact that they appear in such a prominent spot on the list shows how much they should not have lost to the Herd. They probably weren’t going to the playoff anyway in 2022, but it was an awful feeling to have those hopes dashed so early into the season. It was both a reminder and a hard lesson not to take any opponent for granted.

College football’s 10 most hated teams – according to one fan

Not every team is likeable for some people.

The more popular and successful your team is, the more likely it is to get on other people’s nerves. It might be jealousy, or it might be the way your team goes about its business that just rubs people the wrong way. Whatever the case, your team isn’t going to win everybody over no matter what happens. The sooner you accept that some people simply hate your team, the better.

Big Game Boomer is known among college football fans on Twitter for making one list after another. Everything from rankings to representatives for every Football Bowl Subdivision School is involved, and everything both on and off the field is up for consideration when these lists are made.

With spring practices and the NFL draft behind us, now is the time for Big Game Boomer to come up with arguably the 10 most hated college football programs. Naturally, this list is subjective, and you might have a different one. But here are the 10 programs most likely to tick people off.

And of course, the Fighting Irish made his list.

Chick-fil-A named Notre Dame’s most popular chain restaurant

Do you agree with this?

Sure, it’s nice to support a local restaurant, but sometimes, you need something that can be prepared quickly. That’s when fast food and chain restaurants come into play. Twitter user and college football map and list aficionado Big Game Boomer just compiled a list of what he believes to be the most popular chain restaurant for each Football Bowl Subdivision school. Chick-fil-A is the winner for Notre Dame:

This might not a be a surprise for some of you. After all, there’s a Chick-fil-A located inside the Duncan Student Center, which is not far from Notre Dame Stadium. There also are a few locations in the area surrounding the university. Plus, it probably isn’t hurt on most game days since the Irish almost always play on Saturdays and not Sundays, when Chick-fil-A notoriously always closes.

Have you ever stopped at a Chick-fil-A before, during or after a game? Or do you have higher standards when it comes to food and football? That’s a poll that really needs to be conducted among Irish fans.

Marcus Freeman: fourth-most swagger in college football; Kelly least

The Irish definitely upgraded on the coolness scale as far as their coaches.

In case you haven’t heard of Twitter’s Big Game Boomer, the account puts together lists and maps about all things college football. That includes coaches with both the most and least amount of swagger – a list that was released Tuesday. [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] ranks fourth behind Deion Sanders, Lane Kiffin and Shane Beamer on the list of coaches with the most swagger. Brian Kelly, meanwhile, is atop the list of coaches with the least:

Talk about how much difference a year makes. Freeman might not have accomplished every goal in his first season leading the Irish, but you can’t deny the fun and energetic disposition he brings, and we hope that sticks around South Bend for many years to come. As far as we’re concerned, Kelly can at LSU and not be cool despite some desperate attempts to be. We’ll take Freeman’s winning ways and awesome demeanor every day of the week and twice on Saturday.

Big Game Boomer likes MSU football to hit the win total over this fall

Big Game Boomer is high on the Spartans entering the 2022 season

One of the most popular college football Twitter accounts out there likes the Spartans to win at least eight games this fall.

Big Game Boomer released a list of college football teams that he’s betting the over on their win total, and Michigan State was on the list. The Spartans are listed at 7.5 wins so Big Game Boomer is stating he likes Michigan State to finish no worse than 8-4 this upcoming season.

Some of the other teams Big Game Boomer likes the over on includes Arizona (3), Baylor (7.5), NC State (8.5), Purdue (7.5) and Tennessee (7.5). Check out his complete list below:

Big Game Boomer names Vince Vaughn Notre Dame’s biggest celebrity fan

Ugh.

We’ve mentioned Big Game Boomer a few times before. Most recently, he ruffled a few feathers when he called Purdue the best college football team in the state of Indiana. Now, he’s listing what he believes is the most famous celebrity fan for every Football Bowl Subdivision School. For Notre Dame, he lists Vince Vaughn:

Excuse me while I go puke. No, really. That’s how much I don’t care for Vince Vaughn. I know he’s a huge Irish fan, and I know he was one of the players in “Rudy”, but this really makes me wish Regis Philbin still was alive.

Ever since I saw Vaughn’s pretentious character in “Old School”, I haven’t cared for anything he’s done. I can’t even bring myself to sit down and watch all of “Wedding Crashers” because that’s how strongly I feel about this. If you like him, great, but for me, Vaughn’s Irish fandom is something I wish didn’t exist.

Big Game Boomer trolls Notre Dame, then argues with Irish writer

There’s really no reason any of this should have taken place, right?

Big Game Boomer is known on Twitter for ranking and listing just about everything in college football. His topics range from coordinator duos to teams’ biggest needs to stadium bathrooms. Another one is the best college football teams this season by state. That’s where you’ll find something very wrong with this picture:

One Irish writer who wouldn’t take this sitting down was Irish Breakdown publisher Bryan Driskell. He quote tweeted a reply in which Boomer tried to justify his decision, and it led to quite the exchange:

If Boomer wants to defend his choice based on how the Irish have done it big games recently, fair enough. It’s not like the Irish have accomplished a lot in those over the past decade. However, to rank Purdue, which won’t even sniff the preseason top 25, over the Irish at this moment is just dumb and reeks of bias.

Whatever. We all know better, and we know the Irish should be in the top 10 all season. Then maybe, just maybe, Boomer will walk his decision back.

Twitter user lists three Big Ten schools Notre Dame should always play

Do you want the Irish to play Big Ten schools more often?

Earlier this summer, a Twitter user known as Big Game Boomer placed Notre Dame in the second tier of college football’s hierarchy. This person, an avowed Oklahoma fan, puts out lists regularly. Not long ago, one list named Notre Dame the best brand in college football, and another listed Kyren Williams and Chris Tyree as the best running back duo for the upcoming season. Now, there’s a new list showing the top 40 rivalries that should be renewed every year but aren’t, and the Irish show up three times for three different Big Ten schools:

A look at future Notre Dame opponents indicates all of them will pop up on the schedule over the next several years. Purdue will visit South Bend on Sept. 18 this year, then the schools will meet every season from 2024 to 2028. A home-and-home with Michigan State will take place in 2026 and 2027. One with Michigan is set to happen in 2033 and 2034.

It really is too bad because the Irish have had healthy rivalries with all of these Big Ten programs over the years. To say it’s a travesty that so many Irish players will come and go without ever facing at least some, if not any, of them is an understatement. Their history and geographic proximity is why one writer recently called for the Irish to join the Big Ten instead of the ACC should it join a conference permanently. Of course, their agreement to play six ACC schools every year means fewer opportunities to schedule everyone they want to play.

Perhaps in the distant future, the ACC agreement won’t be renewed, and Notre Dame will have virtually free reign over its schedule once again. Until then, some great rivalries remain on hold.
