After starting the year 3-0 once again, the Scarlet Knights stumbled to start Big Ten play last week. They fell to Iowa 27-10 in a game that never truly felt that close. Rutgers’ biggest issue last week actually dates back to Week 3 as well, and that is the struggles of the offensive line. That will not be the only place they struggle on Saturday as there is a clear gap in the level of talent between these two programs. Rutgers is in the early stages of a program rebuild – nay, overhaul. Ohio State is No. 3 in the country, is an established power house, and has future NFL players throughout their roster. The Buckeyes have the leader for the Heisman Trophy under center and a history of beating up on Rutgers. Today’s game should be no different.

Rutgers plays underdog to Indiana

Rutgers is a 6.5 point underdog against the Hoosiers. Indiana has had a rough go of it this season, but are still favored to beat the Scarlet Knights by a tad more than a touchdown.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights are once again underdogs this week. This time, against a two-win Indiana Hoosiers team coming off a 29-7 loss to No. 8 Michigan.

ESPN FPI had Rutgers as a near split with Indiana prior to the demolition derby that was their game against Wisconsin this past weekend. However, they are now giving the Scarlet Knights a 33.8% chance in this matchup. FPI has Rutgers favored in only one of their remaining three games, which does not bode well for their bowl game hopes.

Rutgers is a 6.5 point underdog against the Hoosiers. Indiana has had a rough go of it this season, but are still favored to beat the Scarlet Knights by a tad more than a touchdown. It is surprising that the line is this large, given Rutgers’ ability to contain mediocre offenses like Indiana’s. Even more so considering Indiana is the only team in the Big Ten without a conference victory so far this season. The Scarlet Knights would like to keep it that way.

Rutgers will need to control the pace and dominate in the running game in order to have a chance at reversing their fortunes. After snapping a four game skid just to get blown out by the Badgers, and only being favored by ESPN FPI in one remaining game, Rutgers fans will be hoping they steal one this week in order to get one step closer to their bowl goals.

The Scarlet Knights will attempt to snap their losing streak against another Big Ten opponent when they hit the road to take on Northwestern. Let’s take a look at the betting lines, provided by Tipico Sportsbook

The nightmare stretch of Rutgers’ football schedule is officially over. For only the second time in the program’s history, Rutgers is coming off of three straight games against opponents ranked in the top 25. All three of those teams are now in the top 10. All three were against Big Ten opponents. All three resulted in losses.

Let’s take a look at the odds for this matchup. All Betting Lines are Courtesy of Tipico Sportsbook:

The Scarlet Knights are giving two points (-2) to Northwestern. The over-under is set at 45 (-110).

The Scarlet Knights will attempt to snap their losing streak against yet another Big Ten opponent when they hit the road to take on Northwestern on Saturday at Ryan Field in Evanston, Ill. Three of their next four games are on the road.

Northwestern is a formidable team, having won the Big Ten West last season. They are sitting at 2-3 on the season and are coming off of their bye week. Rutgers will look to take advantage of the Big Ten’s worst rush defense, which is allowing 234.2 yards on the ground per game. The offense will look to find some stability in this appetizing matchup.

“We’re just looking to this win this game, trying to play hard,” defensive tackle and co-captain Julius Turner said. “Northwestern’s a good team, a lot of respect for them. We’re just practicing playing very hard this week, trying to get some techniques cleaned up and swarm to the ball.”
