NFL fans turned Bill Belichick into the Bernie Sanders meme with Tom Brady heading to Super Bowl 55

HA!

Tom Brady is once again heading to the Super Bowl, only this time, it’s without Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots.

Pretty wild, isn’t it? And although we’ll probably never know how Belichick truly feels about that with the Pats completely falling apart this season, NFL fans tried to guess at it.

The answer they came up with? They used the Bernie Sanders Inauguration meme in which the Vermont senator was seen sitting in his winter jacket and gloves on Wednesday, looking very cold. The meme is still everywhere, as it should be, because it is very funny (just ask Sanders himself!).

Here are the Bill-as-Bernie memes:

There were, of course, more Belichick memes that were used:

LOL.

Bernie Sanders has seen your Inauguration memes and they made him laugh

Sadly, he will not reveal what was in the envelope he was carrying.

Inauguration day 2021 was a historic moment in many ways. The nation swore in Kamala Harris, its first Black and South Asian female Vice President. Amanda Gorman, 22, became the youngest poet ever to read at an Inauguration. Joe Biden took office as the 46th President of the United States, marking a peaceful transition of power that, honestly, was looking a little dicey.

It was a huge day of big world events, so of course the one thing the internet latched on to most was this incredible picture of Senator Bernie Sanders sitting huddled in his Inauguration chair.

The coat. The mittens. The classic Bernie scowl evident even under the mask. Sanders quickly became a meme, spreading like internet wildfire. Well,  turns out, Sanders has seen the memes and they also made him laugh.

“I was just sitting there. Trying to keep warm. Trying to pay attention to what was going on,” he told Seth Myers on Thursday.

He said he had seen the memes, shown to him by his staff, and then let out a very Bernie-like chuckle. One thing he still wont share is what was in the envelope he was carrying, calling it “top secret.”

In true Bernie fashion, meme talk lasted only a few seconds, before Sanders went on to talk about free health care.

Bernie Sanders “joins” Jayson Tatum, Red Auerbach for photo – sort of

These Bernie memes are everywhere lately, it seems.

However you feel about the Vermont Senator and 2020 U.S. presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, if you’ve been online since Wednesday, it’s probably safe to assume you’ve seen the internet abuzz with a meme Sanders sitting in a chair at new President Joe Biden’s inauguration superimposed on … well, everything.

And now that has been extended to the Boston Celtics media sphere, with the Sanders meme getting a distinctly Celtic take. Older fans and fans with a bent for the team’s rich history know who the man immortalized in a bronze statue located outside of Quincy Market is, sitting on a bench while smoking an eternal bronze cigar.

That man, Arnold “Red” Auerbach, the architect of Celtic excellence from the 1950s onwards, has long been a popular photo opportunity for tourists and locals alike, including All-NBA Boston forward Jayson Tatum.

Someone in the team’s front office decided it would be a great moment to have Sanders “join” them, posting the result on the team’s Twitter account along with the words “New England Legends”.

Indeed.

The sports world has now gotten in on the Bernie Sanders inauguration meme, and it’s amazing

Still going!

Wednesday was a huge day of history and pageantry as President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were sworn in and began their terms.

But all anyone on Twitter could do was post Bernie Sanders Inauguration memes.

Seriously! The sight of the bundled-up senator sitting in a chair at the ceremony was all the talk that day, and on Thursday, my entire timeline is filled with Photoshopped Bernie into everything from movie scenes to sports moments.

We’ll focus on the latter here and give you some examples from the sports world that we’ve seen on Thursday. And yes, this is still funny.

Bernie Sanders Presidential Inauguration outfit became a hilarious meme

Never get a new coat, Bernie!

Joe Biden became the 46th president of the United States on Wednesday morning. It was a solemn ceremony marking the peaceful transition of power that is the hallmark of our democracy. For the occasion, the country’s political leaders came dressed in their winter finest. They wore blazing, colorful coats, brushed up their appearances to impeccable levels and decided to shine for the historical occasion that happens every four years.

The first female Black and South Asian Vice President stunned in a long purple coat. The new First Lady Jill Biden wore a teal, sparkly number with matching gloves and mask. The men all went with traditional but formal black wool coats. Lady Gaga wore a ball gown! Jennifer Lopez came draped in all white.

There was beauty, there was pomp, there was pageantry!

And then, there was Bernie Sanders, the junior Senator from Vermont, who came dressed in a coat that certainly valued functionality over form. Sitting in the Capitol gallery dressed in the same coat he wore to the last inauguration, Sanders delightfully slouched posture, colorful mittens and obvious frown instantly became the best inauguration meme.

Also, here are some bonus jokes.

Never change, Bernie! Never change!

Who wins in boxing match: President Trump or Joe Biden?

A poll conducted by FitRated.com found that the majority of 1,000 people surveyed think Joe Biden would beat Donald Trump in a boxing match.

Those who follow presidential polls know that Donald Trump is trailing presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden in the general election. The current president obviously has a fight on his hands as we approach November.

But what if it were a different kind of fight? What if it were, you guessed it, a boxing match?

Trump, 74, is a legitimate heavyweight at 6 feet, 3 inches and an estimated 240 pounds. Biden, 77, is a reported 6 feet and 160 pounds, which would make him a middleweight and an underdog because of the stark size different.

Still, a poll conducted by FitRated.com found that the majority of 1,000 people surveyed think Biden would defeat Trump in a boxing match. And it wasn’t close: 58.9% for Biden, 41.1% for Trump.

Biden had an even bigger advantage among fellow Democrats, 76% to 24%. Meanwhile, Trump had an edge of 68% to 32% among Republicans.

Those who took part in the poll evidently chose the wiry Biden’s quickness over Trump’s brawn. Or could politics have played a role?

If it makes the president feel better, similar polls had him defeating former Democratic presidential candidates Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Michael Bloomberg and Amy Klobuchar in the ring. Pete Buttigieg, 5-foot-10 but only 38 years old, was picked to beat Trump.

Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders throws hat into (boxing) ring

Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, a boxing fan, watches videos of old fights during whatever down time he has these days.

It all comes back to boxing at some point.

Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders evidently is a fan of the sport. A story in the New York Times revealed that the Democratic hopeful likes to watch videos of old boxing matches in his down time, just like those who are likely to read this blog post.

Chris Wallace brought up Sanders’ interest in the sport during a one-on-one interview on Fox News Sunday.

“Who is your favorite fighter, sir?” Wallace asked.

“I would go with Muhammad Ali, who was not only a great fighter, one of the great heavyweight champs of all time, but was an extraordinary human being and probably the most beloved athlete of his time,” Sanders responded.

“Think he could’ve beaten Joe Louis?” Wallace asked.

“Yep, I do,” Sanders said.

“Incidentally, Joe Louis was from Michigan. You’re going to be in trouble on that one,” Wallace said, tongue in cheek.

Sanders, who is neck and neck with Joe Biden in the race to win the Democratic nomination, is currently campaigning for Tuesday’s Michigan primary.

“I know,” Sanders said. “… Chokwe Antar Lumumba, who is the mayor of Jackson, Mississippi [and who] is campaigning for me in Michigan, turns out his relations, his family is related directly to Joe Louis, whose real name was Joseph Barrows, the Barrows family here in Michigan.”

“It’s true,” Wallace said. “ You have some political repair work to do this afternoon.”

Louis’ real name was actually Joseph Louis Barrow, with no “s.” Still, we’re impressed with Sanders’ knowledge of the sweet science.
