Bengals list 3 starters on inactives in Week 16 vs. Browns

Bengals announce inactives for Week 16 vs. Browns.

The Cincinnati Bengals avoided some notable injury issues this week before hosting the Cleveland Browns in Week 16.

There, the Bengals had Joe Burrow on the injury report and Tee Higgins was back on the list, too. But both were cleared by the end of the week.

After, the full inactives list the Bengals issued for Sunday’s game:

  • QB Logan Woodside (3rd QB)
  • WR Charlie Jones (groin)
  • OL Orlando Brown Jr. (fibula)
  • TE Tanner Hudson (knee)

Orlando Brown is the biggest name on the list again, leaving a backup at left tackle in front of Burrow. Hubbard was speculated as out for the season, yet hasn’t gone to injured reserve. Rankins continues to miss games due to an illness, leaving rookies like Kris Jenkins Jr. in the middle of the defense.

Bengals shock, make rookie Jermaine Burton inactive vs. Raiders in Week 9

Bengals announce inactives for Week 9 vs. Raiders.

The Cincinnati Bengals pulled a shocker on Sunday before Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders by making hyped rookie wideout Jermaine Burton inactive.

  • WR Tee Higgins
  • WR Charlie Jones
  • RB Zack Moss
  • OT Orlando Brown Jr.
  • WR Jermaine Burotn
  • TE Tanner McLachlan
  • DT Jay Tufele

No word on why Burton isn’t active — but he was supposed to get a major playing time boost this week with Tee Higgins out.

Joe Burrow even called for Burton get more playing time and Burton isn’t on the injury report, so the reason must be notable.

Also of note, the Bengals downgraded Zack Moss to out on Sunday morning after he suffered a neck injury on Friday.

Cincinnati Bengals inactive players vs. Philadelphia Eagles in Week 8

Bengals announce inactives for Week 8 vs. Eagles.

The Cincinnati Bengals entered Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles with major, surprise injury questions around wide receiver Tee Higgins.

Higgins leads on the inactive list before the Week 8 kickoff.

The full inactives list the Bengals issued:

  • WR Tee Higgins
  • S Daijahn Anthony
  • DE Cedric Johnson
  • TE Tanner McLachlan
  • DT Jay Tufele

Higgins popped up with a quad injury on the final injury report, suggesting something happened on or around Friday that threw his status for the game in doubt.

Later reporting said that Higgins suffered the injury while running a route on Friday.

Besides that major late development, the inactive list is about as typical as it gets for the Bengals before kickoff.

Cincinnati Bengals inactive players vs. Cleveland Browns in Week 7

Bengals announce inactives for Week 7 vs. Browns.

The Cincinnati Bengals turned some heads last week by making rookie Jermaine Burton inactive, so the Week 7 inactive list against the Cleveland Browns suddenly became something interesting to watch.

As it turns out, that inactive list changed it up again this week.

The full inactives list the Bengals issued:

  • DE Cedric Johnson
  • OL Andrew Steuber
  • WR Trenton Irwin
  • TE Tanner McLachlan
  • DT Jay Tufele
  • DT Lawrence Guy

As with Burton and otherwise, the inactive list comes down to injuries and gameplans for specific opponents.

And this week? Burton is active, while Trenton Irwin is inactive. Also of note is the veteran Guy still serving a deep depth role after his recent arrival now that the line is healthier.

Cincinnati Bengals inactive players vs. New York Giants in Week 6

Bengals announce inactives for Week 6 vs. Giants.

The Cincinnati Bengals inactives list for “Sunday Night Football” against the New York Giants in Week 6 isn’t nearly as rough as prior weeks.

With names like Sheldon Rankins on the way back to the field, things have settled down on this front for the Bengals.

The full inactives list the Bengals issued:

  • DE Cedric Johnson
  • OL Andrew Steuber
  • WR Jermaine Burton
  • TE Tanner McLachlan
  • DT Jay Tufele
  • DT Lawrence Guy

Keep in mind that starting cornerback Dax Hill is out for the season, which will put former second-round pick DJ Turner into a starting role opposite Cam Taylor-Britt.

Jermaine Burton is a mild surprise there, but he’s playing limited with Tee Higgins back. The staff might simply prefer Trenton Irwin’s abilities on special teams as depth by comparison.

Cincinnati Bengals inactive players vs. Baltimore Ravens in Week 5

Bengals announce inactives for Week 5 vs. Ravens.

The Cincinnati Bengals inactives list for Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens looks much more positive than it has over the previous four weeks of the season.

The full inactives list the Bengals issued:

  • WR Trent Irwin
  • CB Mike Hilton
  • Edge Ced Johnson
  • TE Tanner McLachlan
  • TE Tanner Hudson
  • DT Sheldon Rankins

The big news is the names not listed (Hitlon was always trending toward not playing). Trey Hendrickson is back from the neck injury already. B.J. Hill is back. Myles Murphy will make his debut on the edge and rookie McKinnley Jackson can provide key depth in the middle.

Even the presence of Rankins on the inactive list isn’t a surprise given his current expected return timetable.

Cincinnati Bengals inactive players vs. Carolina Panthers in Week 4

Bengals announce inactives for Week 4 vs. Panthers.

The full inactives list the Bengals issued:

  • TE Tanner McLachlan
  • TE Tanner Hudson
  • DT BJ Hill

Otherwise, there aren’t many surprises of note. Last week, Jermaine Burton was active over Trenton Irwin after Tee Higgins finally returned, which seemed to say a lot about the rookie. Coaches later commented on Burton’s playing time.
