What everyone said after the Commanders’ loss to Cowboys

Here’s what everyone said after Commanders’ loss to Cowboys.

The Commanders were again outscored in the fourth quarter and lost their third consecutive game, Sunday, when they fell to the Dallas Cowboys 34-26 at Northwest Stadium.

Here is a collection of post-game quotes from players, analysts, coaches, and media personalities.

Dan Quinn

“What I told the team after the game was that this is the most challenged we’ve been in our time together. And I reminded them, it’s not enough to learn the lessons, but we have to apply them.”

“I remind them it’s never about one play. And so, that execution falls on all of us players and coaches, and I firmly believe that. And so, we’ll get to it tomorrow. We’ll look at the tape and get right to the truth of it all.”

“Yeah, I want to make sure like this confidence is rolling whoever we’re playing. And I don’t want it to go up and down and up and down. So again, I look back at the tape and the best part of this is you get to go dig in and go forward again, man. But from a performance side, is there plenty to clean up on? You bet. And you don’t want to miss an opportunity and when you got a home game and going forward in the division, you want to take advantage of those. And when you miss them, it stings.”

Jayden Daniels

“We’ve been in third and longer a lot, you know, these past couple games. So, that’s kind of where you get into the exotic pressures and stuff like that. You know, we’ve just gotta be better on first and second downs and stay ahead of the chains.”

Chris Russell (Team 980)

“I fully expected the #Commanders to win this game & begrudgingly picked them -10.5 on Friday. As I kept mentioning – the notion they were going to cruise over these next few weeks (Dallas, Tennessee & New Orleans) was laughable. It’s a potential nightmare now.”
Ben Standig (The Athletic)
“From a team spokesperson: Out of an abundance of caution, Austin Ekeler (concussion) is headed to the hospital for further testing.
John Keim (ESPN)
“Wow. Just a brutal finish to cap a horrendous performance.
Bobby Wagner

Jason Garrett (NBC)
“They’ve got to start getting the ball down the field. [Terry] McLaurin has got to get involved in this game earlier. That’s the only way they get this offense going again.”

Austin Seibert

“It didn’t make a difference at all. It’s on me.”
“I felt fine. That’s why I made the decision to play and here we are.”

Tress Way

“This dude is just making freaking kicks all year long so we still have a lot of ball left and making a little playoff run. It’s just really tough. Rinse and repeat and come back and get ready for Tennessee.”

“I would have to…..I’d really like to see the film. They always say the eye in the sky don’t lie but [LS] Tyler [Ott] and I talked after and our job is to make it as seamless as possible for Austin and we just didn’t feel like we quite had it there. Rinse and repeat. Get ready to go again.”

Terry McLaurin

“It doesn’t come down to one play. It doesn’t come down to one kick. We had our opportunities to take control of the game and we didn’t.”

Rick ‘Doc’ Walker

“I’d love to learn a lesson while Winning.

Grant Paulsen (106.7 The Fan)

“The Commanders have fallen to 7-5. Lots of football left this season but this was a cold water performance. Hard to count wins against the bad teams they play in future after losing as an 11-point favorite.”

Thom Loverro (Washington Times)

“George Allen spinning in his grave — special teams allow 99-yard kickoff return. Remember the days when the Commanders went the entire game without punting?”

Are all signs pointing Jayden Daniels to the Commanders?

Some perspective on all of the Jayden Daniels’ rumors.

Jayden Daniels is comin’ to town.

Tuesday evening, Ben Standig of the Athletic reported that the Commanders are having Daniels come in for a visit on Monday, April 15.

Three big-name personalities have linked Daniels to the Commanders in the last seven days. Colin Cowherd said Monday he had been told the Commanders were going to draft Daniels.

LSU head coach Brian Kelly, when asked about Daniels last week, commented that Daniels will take good care of himself and that, “He’s going to get the ball out to playmakers and make plays for Washington.”

There was also ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter: “I know we are not supposed to spoil picks. We’ll see how the Commanders decide to move forward with the No. 2 overall selection. But a little over a few weeks out, I think the signs continue to point to Jayden Daniels being the second overall pick at number two.”

In addition, is now the report from Standig that Daniels is coming to Ashburn, so Daniels must be the pick, correct?

Not necessarily.

First, Daniels quarterbacked the last two seasons at LSU. Kelly is simply pumping up his guy to be selected high because, in doing so, Kelly is lauding his football program. What is Kelly supposed to say, “Personally, I think Daniels could be the fourth quarterback drafted?”

Schefter told his listeners he was not supposed to spoil the picks, and then what did he do? He told his audience all signs point to Daniels being the pick.

Further, what did Schefter mean, “The signs continue to point to Daniels …?” What signs? What Adam Peters has been saying? No.

What Dan Quinn has expressed? Not at all.

What owner Josh Harris has publicly said about how they feel about Daniels? Certainly not.

Commanders fans need to remember that John Keim, Ben Standig, JP Finlay, Nicki Jhabvala, and Sam Fortier claim the Commanders have provided no evidence toward any particular quarterback.

But Adam Schefter knows?

Schefter wants his audience to “think” he knows, but what did Schefter actually say?

What about Daniels visiting next week?

Well, don’t you think Adam Peters is also going to bring in Drake Maye for a visit? Might he also bring in J.J. McCarthy?

Commanders fans, it’s true; no one in the media “knows” whom the Commanders are going to draft at No. 2 overall.

Commanders’ Chase Young was the talk of DMV radio

Chase Young’s fifth-year option and future in Washington continue to be a hot topic.

Similarly to when he was drafted, Commanders defensive end Chase Young has been at the center of Washington NFL fan’s radio discussions this week.

Monday and Tuesday, Young was discussed by Chris Russell, Kevin Sheehan, Ben Standig and Grant and Danny.

The heart of the matter in all conversations is that Young has far from lived up to expectations when he was drafted second overall in the 2020 NFL draft. Consequently, with the deadline approaching, the Commanders must decide if they are going to go ahead and take on Chase Young’s fifth-year option.

Sheehan asked Standig if the Commanders had to choose to either extend Montez Sweat or offer Chase Young the fifth-year option, which would they choose. Standig went with Montez Sweat. “Montez Sweat has simply been the better player to this point,” expressed Standig. Standig also pointed to the struggle Ron Rivera has also experienced with Young’s maturity as a major issue.

“Defensive end/pass rusher is a significant priority for this team because Chase Young is not a part of the long-term future of this team in my eyes,” declared Russell on his 980 The Team show. “And I don’t think he is in their eyes either.”

Russell told his listeners, “There’s stuff you all don’t know about, that they (the Commanders) know about. I keep telling you that. There’s stuff you don’t know about that they know about. And I am just going to leave it at that.”

Grant Paulsen expressed regarding Young that after a fine rookie season, “Going into year two, we all expected he was about to make the Bosa leap. He was about to go get 14/15 sacks. Obviously, for nine games, he was really disappointing before he got hurt.”

“That whole season started with Young, the only one of the 90 players of the entire team who wasn’t at OTAs. Then when he was asked about it he was ‘getting that money, boss’. So, some of the questions started to come right away.

“Rivera was challenging him, talking about his maturity. So it has been very negative and downhill since then, I would say.”

All were in agreement, they want Young to bust out and play well for Washington, but they were all realistic as well. Young has been a major disappointment, and it is not about his injury only. Young was entirely unaware of how immature he was during the 2021 season.

We are all hoping he has grown up, is now aware and mature, and ready to bust out as a second-overall pick in an NFL draft should be.

Washington goes silent day before name reveal?

Washington will announce its new team name Wednesday. The team never officially announced the time for its big reveal.

What time will the Washington Football Team make the huge announcement  Wednesday morning on NBC’s Today Show?

One would think the Washington Football Team would have posted on their website today — the day before they reveal the new team name — but no such post at all today in checking their website.

One would also think the Washington Football Team would have tweeted today regarding the announcement tomorrow. But as of 9:00 p.m., not a single tweet today regarding the franchise tomorrow announcing the team’s fourth name in their long history.

1.3 million Twitter followers and you don’t tweet anything about your announcement tomorrow?

Whoever is leading the communication efforts, did not see that it might be a good idea to remind your 1.3 million followers to turn their TV to the NBC channel in their television market?

Are the folks in communication at the Washington Football Team aware that the Today Show airs from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.? As of now,  still no tweet whatsoever regarding the announcement or the uniform unveiling. Do they expect fans to be sitting there for four hours tomorrow? How about some direction, please?

Did they not see it might be helpful to inform Washington fans they can go to Today.com if they can’t get to a television? Or might Washington fans like to be informed by the team that there is also a Today app?

A tip of the hat to Ben Standig who informed his Twitter followers that it might be during the 8:00 a.m. hour.

I am actually surprised… can’t believe that the Washington Football Team has been silent on “Announcement Eve.” But then again, we are talking about the ownership by the Snyders and the presidency of Jason Wright.

It appears the new name was already revealed — and not by Washington, at least not on purpose, we think.

Should I be surprised? Should any of us be surprised?
