Michigan State football lands commitment from Oregon transfer DT Ben ‘Big Worm’ Roberts

Michigan State football successfully finished complete a trade with Oregon on Wednesday. Just kidding, kind of.

Two weeks ago, Oregon landed the commitment of Michigan State transfer defensive tackle Derrick Harmon. Today, the Spartans got a defensive tackle back from Oregon by way of the transfer portal, when Ben ‘Big Worm’ Roberts committed to MSU.

Roberts was a 4-star recruit in the 2022 class and will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Oregon Ducks DL Ben Roberts to enter the transfer portal

Ben Roberts to the transfer portal for the Oregon Ducks.

The Oregon Ducks saw another player announce their intention to enter the transfer portal this week, with sophomore defensive lineman Ben Roberts declaring via social media that he will be leaving Eugene.

Roberts was one of the many players who had a standout performance in the Oregon spring game over the weekend, registering two tackles and one sack on the interior defensive line. In our latest depth chart projections, we had Roberts slotted as a starter on the interior defensive line, so his transfer comes as somewhat of a surprise, in our opinion.

Roberts played in four games during the 2023 season after appearing in five games in his first year with the Ducks in 2022.

Roberts will have three years of eligibility remaining at whatever school he goes to next.

Going forward, it’s likely that the Ducks will try to find some more help on the interior defensive line now that they lost one of the players at that position. This year, players like Brandon Dorlus, Taki Taimani, Casey Rogers, and Popo Aumavae all left for the NFL, so Oregon will need some added depth on the interior.

The defensive commits keep rolling in for the Oregon Ducks ad new head coach Dan Lanning in this early signing period as defensive lineman Ben Roberts puts his name on the dotted line.

Roberts, a 6-foot-4, 290-pounder out of Salt Lake City, had numerous offers including Washington and Nebraska.

He is the No. 1 defense tackle from Utah according to Rivals and ESPN, while also ranking No. 1 among defensive linemen by 247Sports. According to the 247 composite, Roberts is the No. 2 defensive lineman in Utah and was selected to play in the 2022 Polynesian Bowl.

He finished his career at East High School with 192 tackles (94 solo), 21.0 tackles for loss, 22.5 sacks, one interception, and one pass break up. Roberts also averaged 8.7 tackles per game and as a senior, helped lead East to the quarterfinals of the 2021 UHSAA/Mountain America 5A State Playoffs. He completed his senior season with 107 tackles (58 solo), 9.0 tackles for loss, 15.5 sacks, one pass breakup while averaging 9.7 tackles per game.

Oregon lands commitment from 4-star DL Ben Roberts in big win over Washington Huskies

Oregon added insult to injury for Washington Sunday, flipping 4-star DL Ben Roberts, who de-committed from the Huskies recently.

Talk about a rough 24 hours for fans of the Washington Huskies…

After suffering the worst defeat in program history, falling 13-7 at home to the Montana Grizzlies, an FCS school, Washington fans have to wake up on Sunday morning to see that their former 4-star defensive line commit, Ben Roberts, has decided to spend his time a few hours south, agreeing to play for the Oregon Ducks.

Roberts is a 6-foot-4, 290-pound lineman out of East High School in Utah. He is rated as the No. 36 defensive lineman in the nation, and had several offers from Baylor, Nebraska, Oregon, Oregon State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, UCLA, and USC.

After Roberts announced his commitment to the Huskies in late June, a curious post of his visit to Eugene for Oregon’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ popped up on social media, leading to speculation about his ultimate destination. Eventually, he de-committed from Washington, which leads us to his announcement on Sunday morning.

Even before the Roberts commitment, Oregon’s 2022 recruiting class is ranked No. 7 nationally and No. 1 in the conference. Adding a 4-star prospect is sure to make that number climb a bit.

Oregon target Ben Roberts decommits from Washington

Four-star d-lineman Ben Roberts de-committed from the University of Washington on Tuesday, fueling speculation he could end up in Eugene.

Oregon Ducks target and four-star defensive lineman Ben Roberts (Salt Lake City, Utah) announced on Instagram Tuesday morning he is decommitting from the University of Washington.

Roberts’ de-commitment catches the attention of basically every school in the Pac-12. The 6-foot-4, 290 pounder in the class of 2022 had 14 recorded offers, including Oregon and Washington as well as Colorado, USC, Washington State, UCLA, Baylor, Tennessee, and Nebraska, among others.

Roberts is the 36th ranked defensive tackle in the country and third ranked prospect in all of Utah – a state with plenty of recent ties to Oregon thanks to the Sewell brothers, Kingsley Suamataia, and Jackson Powers-Johnson.

Roberts took a trip to Oregon and unofficially visited the Ducks during Saturday Night Live. While he does have two official visits already in the bag, at Tennessee and Virginia Tech, his trip to Eugene was more recent (July 31) which fueled speculation he is planning to come to Oregon even among 247’s experts, where the Ducks now have 67% of the crystal ball projections.
