5 Bears games most likely to land in primetime in 2020

Let’s take a look at five games that are most likely to land the Bears a primetime billing this season.

The NFL is set to release its 2020 schedule on Thursday, which means we’ll finally know exactly when the Chicago Bears will face their 2020 opponents — assuming the 2020 season commences as planned.

Last season, the Bears landed five primetime games, as well as an international game and a Thanksgiving showdown against NFC North rivals the Detroit Lions. Following a 12-4 record and a postseason appearance — including a dominant defense and up-and-coming offense — the Bears were a team on the rise.

Although, don’t expect another five-game primetime affair for the Bears, who are coming off a disappointing 8-8 season. The NFL targets teams that are slated to bring in large viewership — teams that are coming off impressive seasons that a wider NFL audience want a glimpse of.

That wasn’t the 2019 Bears, who floundered in three of their five primetime games last season. But the Bears are still a big market for the NFL, so they’re likely to draw a couple of primetime games in 2020.

Let’s take a look at five games that are most likely to land the Bears a primetime billing this season.

Bears’ 2020 regular-season schedule will be released Thursday

The NFL will release its 2020 schedule on Thursday night, where we’ll learn when the Bears will be playing their slated opponents.

While many professional sports leagues have seen their seasons delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, the NFL has benefited from a spring-time offseason, where they’ve been able to conduct things like free agency and the 2020 NFL Draft without interruption.

The NFL remains adamant that the 2020 season will start on-time, although there are certain to be some big changes. Typically, the league releases the 2020 schedule prior to the NFL Draft, but things haven’t been typical this offseason.

For now, the season will go on as schedule. And we now know that the NFL will release the 2020 schedule on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT.

While we don’t yet know when the Bears will be playing specific opponents, we do know who their opponents are for next season and where the games will be played.

Houston Texans Atlanta Falcons

New Orleans Saints Jacksonville Jaguars
New York Giants Los Angeles Rams

In addition to facing their NFC North rivals, the Bears will face the AFC South and NFC South next season, which includes home games against the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints, as well as away games against the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans.

Chicago Bears’ 2020 schedule to be released this week

The NFL plans on releasing its 2020 regular-season schedule no later than May 9.

The NFL has managed to carry on with its typical offseason amid the coronavirus pandemic — including free agency and the 2020 NFL Draft. Next up: The schedule release.

The plan was for the league to release its 2020 schedule no later than May 9, a deadline that is approaching this week.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, that plan remains in tact, which means we’ll learn the Chicago Bears’ regular-season schedule sometime this coming week.

The league will release its 2020 schedule late next week without any major changes, league spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed — including a Sept. 10 opener, the Super Bowl on Feb. 7 and visions of fans in the stands.

“We plan to start on time,” McCarthy said.

Adam Schefter added that the preseason schedule will also be released this week — presumably before the regular season, as is tradition.

While we don’t know exactly when the Bears will be playing certain opponents, we do know who their opponents are for this upcoming season and where they’ll be playing them.

NFL expects to play full season, start on time

The NFL plans to start its 2020 season on time and intends to play a full season, including the postseason, without interruptions.

Despite the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on the sports landscape, the NFL hasn’t been affected to the extent of the rest of professional sports.

Free agency has been underway without any interruption, the NFL Draft will move forward from April 23-25 and the plan is that the NFL will begin its regular season on time — and intend to play a full season, including the postseason, without interruptions.

“On the season itself, our planning, our expectation is fully directed at playing a full season, starting on schedule and having a full regular season and a full set of playoffs, just as we did in 2019,” NFL executive Jeff Pash told reporters on a conference call Tuesday, via ChicagoBears.com.

Well, at least for now. That’s subject to change depending on what happens over the next couple of months. But, for all intents and purposes, the expectation is there will be NFL football come September.

“That’s our expectation,” Pash continued. “Am I certain of that? I’m not certain I’ll be here tomorrow. But I’m planning on it, and in the same way, we’re planning on having a full season.”

In addition, the NFL has pushed back its schedule release from mid-April to early May. Expect the Bears’ 2020 schedule to be released no later than May 9.

The Bears will host the Buccaneers, Colts, Giants, Saints, Texans and their NFC North rivals Lions, Packers and Vikings. Chicago will also visit the Falcons, Jaguars, Panthers, Rams and Titans, as well as their divisional opponents.
