The Chicago Bears made some roster moves on the practice squad ahead of Monday night’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.

The Bears activated offensive lineman Badara Traore from the COVID-19/reserve list and back on the practice squad. Chicago has also re-signed safety Marqui Christian to the practice squad and released linebacker Sharif Finch to make room.

As Brad Biggs noted, the addition of Christian to the practice squad comes on the heels of safety Sherrick McManis being sidelined with a hamstring injury. Look for Christian to possibly be promoted to the active roster on Monday.

Christian joined the Bears in mid-August following a four-year stint with the Los Angeles Rams, where he served as depth at safety. During his time with the Rams, Christian contributed mainly on special teams, but he also saw time on defense, where he totaled 36 tackles.

Christian joined the Bears in mid-August and was reinstated in Week 3 following a two-game suspension to start the year. He was on Chicago’s practice squad before signing with the New York Jets.

Now, Christian is back for his third stint with the Bears, and his timing couldn’t be better.

Bears expected to sign RB Lamar Miller to the practice squad

The Bears are adding some depth at running back with the addition of Lamar Miller to the practice squad.

The Chicago Bears are adding some depth at running back following the loss of Tarik Cohen, who tore his ACL in last Sunday’s win against the Atlanta Falcons.

The Bears are signing veteran running back Lamar Miller to their practice squad, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Miller is coming off a torn ACL sustained last preseason. But before his injury, Miller served as the lead running back for the Houston Texans, where he totaled 2,934 rushing yards with 13 touchdowns. What Miller also brings to the table is his ability to catch passes out of the backfield, something the Bears are losing with Cohen. Miller had 92 receptions for 678 yards and five touchdowns during his time in Houston.

The Bears recently promoted undrafted rookie Artavis Pierce to the active roster following Cohen being placed on injured reserve.

There were depth concerns behind starter David Montgomery heading into the season with a running back room that consisted of him, Cohen, receiver-turned-running-back Cordarrelle Patterson and inexperienced Ryan Nall.

We’ll see how Miller factors into things for the Bears, who should certainly promote him from the practice squad sooner rather than later this season.

Bears place RB Tarik Cohen on IR, elevate RB Artavis Pierce to active roster

As expected, the Bears placed RB Tarik Cohen on injured reserve following a torn ACL and elevated undrafted rookie RB Artavis Pierce.

The Chicago Bears have officially placed running back Tarik Cohen on injured reserve following his torn ACL during the fourth quarter of last Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons.

As expected, the Bears also elevated undrafted rookie running back Artavis Pierce from the practice squad to the active roster. That leaves David Montgomery, Cordarrelle Patterson, Ryan Nall and Pierce as Chicago’s running back room moving forward, as head coach Matt Nagy has expressed faith in the depth on the current roster.

The Bears also signed two players to the practice squad in defensive end Terry Beckner Jr. and linebacker Sharif Finch.

Chicago hosts the Colts this Sunday as they look to remain undefeated against a dangerous Indianapolis team.

Bears sign K Cairo Santos to active roster, waive TE Eric Saubert

The Bears have promoted kicker Cairo Santos to the 53-man roster and waived tight end Eric Saubert heading into Week 2.

The Chicago Bears have promoted kicker Cairo Santos to the active roster and waived tight end Eric Saubert, the team announced Wednesday.

Santos, who was activated from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions, has been filling in for injured kicker Eddy Pineiro, who’s been out with a groin injury.

In his Bears debut — the second time around, as he kicked briefly during the 2017 season — Santos connected on both of his field goal attempts, from 35 yards and 28 yards.

Pineiro was placed on injured reserve ahead of the Week 1 opener, which means he won’t be eligible to return until Week 4 against the Indianapolis Colts.

But if Santos solidifies his position as Chicago’s kicker, the Bears might have a kicker controversy on their hands. Again.

Bears bring back OLB Ledarius Mack on the practice squad

The Bears have signed OLB Khalil Mack’s younger brother Ledarius Mack to the practice squad and released DL Abdullah Anderson.

It’s quite literally the return of the Mack. Well, not the Mack. But Mack.

The Chicago Bears have signed outside linebacker Khalil Mack’s brother Ledarius Mack to the practice squad. The rookie outside linebacker signed as an undrafted free agent with the Bears earlier this offseason.

Ledarius spent the offseason and training camp with the Bears, but he was waived Sept. 5 as part of final cuts as the team finalized its 53-man roster. Ledarius, who joins the 16-man practice squad, replaced defensive lineman Abdullah Anderson, who the Bears released on Monday.

Ledarius’ big brother gave a scouting report of the younger Mack, referring to him as “explosive” during his time in camp.

“He’s jumping out on film,” Khalil said. “Very explosive, very explosive. You can tell that he’s talented. Things that [are] gonna affect that decision — it’s gonna come down to special teams. How he’ll be used out there, whatever that may be, but all in all, what I’ve seen, man, I’m proud of him.”

Bears waive six players ahead of Saturday’s roster deadline

Chicago released six players on Thursday morning to trim the roster to 74 ahead of the Sept. 5 53-man roster deadline.

With less than two weeks until the Chicago Bears open the regular season against the Detroit Lions, there are some roster cuts that need to be made. The Bears need to trim the roster from 80 to 53 players by Sept. 5, and they’ve already started making roster moves.

Chicago released six players on Thursday morning to trim the roster to 74. They waived running back Napoleon Maxwell, receivers Alex Wesley and Ahmad Wagner, offensive lineman Corey Levin, defensive lineman Lee Autry and linebacker Keandre Jones.

There’s a good chance some of these players could wind up on Chicago’s practice squad, which will have 16 available spots should they clear waivers. The Bears still need to cut 21 players by Saturday’s deadline.

Bears sign RB Napoleon Maxwell, place CB Michael Joseph on IR

The Bears made some roster moves Monday morning, re-signing rookie RB Napoleon Maxwell and placing CB Michael Joseph on injured reserve.

The Chicago Bears made some roster moves Monday morning, re-signing undrafted rookie running back Napoleon Maxwell and placing cornerback Michael Joseph on injured reserve.

Maxwell originally signed with the Bears as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Florida International. But he was waived Aug. 2 as part of roster cut-downs. Now, Maxwell returns to Chicago as depth concerns continue to loom.

Starting running back David Montgomery suffered a groin injury in practice last Wednesday. He’s expected to miss 2-4 weeks with the injury, but there’s still a chance that he’ll be ready for the season opener against the Detroit Lions on Sept. 13. Although, the Bears certainly don’t want to rush him back.

The Bears haven’t made any moves in free agency with Montgomery’s uncertainty, which could indicate that they’re prepared to trudge on without him for the short time he’s expected to miss. While Tarik Cohen is a proven player, he’s more of a gadget player than a three-down back. The Bears do have former Oregon State teammates Ryan Nall and Artavis Pierce on the roster, and it’s possible they could see some time.

As for Joseph, Chicago’s bad luck with cornerback injuries continues. Following injuries to Tre Roberson and Artie Burns, that leaves rookie Jaylon Johnson and Kevin Toliver to battle for the starting right cornerback spot opposite two-time Pro Bowler Kyle Fuller.

Bears sign K Cairo Santos, WR Alex Wesley

The Chicago Bears announced some roster moves Monday, including the additions of K Cairo Santos and WR Alex Wesley.

The Chicago Bears announced some roster moves Monday, including the signing of kicker Cairo Santos. Santos, who played for the Bears in two games back in 2017, converted 4-of-5 field goals during that span before suffering a season-ending groin injury.

Most recently, Santos started the season with the Tennessee Titans, but he was released after he went 0-for-4 in a Week 5 loss to the Buffalo Bills. In his six-year career, Santos has completed 108-of-134 field goals, good for 80.6 percent.

But it doesn’t sound like Santos’ addition is competition-related. It’s more of an insurance policy for kicker Eddy Pineiro, who’s nursing a groin injury right now.

“(Pineiro) does have a little bit of a groin [injury] that he’s dealing with right now,” Nagy told reporters Sunday.

The Bears also signed wide receiver Alex Wesley, who returns for his second stint with the team within the last month. Wesley spent the final two weeks of the 2019 season on Chicago’s practice squad before he signed a reserve/futures contract in late December. Wesley was waived July 27 as part of roster cut-downs.

Chicago also placed tight end Darion Clark on injured reserve and released former Green Bay Packers receiver Trevor Davis.

Bears place LB Roquan Smith on IR, sign LB Devante Bond to active roster

The Bears officially placed LB Roquan Smith on injured reserve and signed LB Devante Bond to the 53-man roster.

The Chicago Bears have made it official: Linebacker Roquan Smith has been placed on injured reserve, which effectively ends his sophomore season.

Smith suffered a torn pectoral muscle in the first quarter of Thursday’s win over the Cowboys. Bears coach Matt Nagy announced Smith’s injury Monday and confirmed he’d miss the remainder of the season.

It’s disappointing because Smith was playing some of his best ball in the last month, where he recorded at least 10 tackles in four of five games, including a career-high 16 stops against Detroit on Thanksgiving.

With Smith sent to IR, the Bears have promoted linebacker Devante Bond to the active roster. Bond, a sixth-round pick by the Buccaneers in 2016, appeared in four games for Tampa Bay this season before the waived him Oct. 16. He later served a four-game suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drugs policy

Bond has appeared in 29 games with six starts in three seasons, playing mostly on special teams and as a reserve.

The Bears also released practice squad linebacker Dewayne Hendrix and signed defensive back Xavier Crawford to the practice squad in his place.

Bears place DB Sherrick McManis, TE Adam Shaheen on Injured Reserve

The Bears placed DB Sherrick McManis, TE Adam Shaheen on injured reserve and signed OL Corey Levin and TE Eric Saubert to the active roster.

The Chicago Bears placed defensive back and special teams standout Sherrick McManis and tight end Adam Shaheen on injured reserve on Saturday.

The Bears signed offensive lineman Corey Levin and tight end Eric Saubert to the active roster in their place.

McManis suffered a groin injury against the New York Giants, which caused him to miss Thursday’s game against the Detroit Lions. Shaheen has missed the last two games with a foot injury, after being a healthy scratch against the Lions in Week 10.

Chicago is thin at the tight end position with Trey Burton and now Shaheen on injured reserve. They currently have Jesper Horsted, JP Holtz and Bradley Sowell, and now Saubert at tight end.

The Bears signed Saubert, a fifth-round draft pick by the Atlanta Falcons in 2017, off Oakland’s practice squad. Saubert appeared in all 14 games, as a reserve, for the Falcons as a rookie and played in 16 games, with one start, and caught five passes for 48 yards, in 2018.

Chicago signed guard/center Levin off the Broncos’ practice squad. Levin was drafted in the sixth round of the 2018 draft out of Chattanooga, where he appeared in 16 games for the Tennessee Titans as a rookie. After being waived by Tennessee, he was claimed by the Broncos.
