Report: Bears are waiving DT Bravvion Roy

The Bears are waiving DT Bravvion Roy, according to Cameron Wolfe. Chicago claimed Roy off waivers earlier this summer.

The Chicago Bears continue to trim their roster to 53 players ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

According to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, the Bears are waiving defensive tackle Bravvion Roy. Chicago claimed Roy off waivers earlier this summer.

Roy, a former sixth-round pick out of Baylor, has played 45 games, including 15 starts, in three seasons with the Panthers. With Carolina transitioning to a 3-4 defense this offseason, there wasn’t a need for additional depth along the interior.

Last season, Roy totaled 17 tackles, four pressures and five stops in 13 games, including four starts. He earned a PFF run defense grade of 48.6 and pass rush grade of 60.9 in 2022.

While Roy is an experienced nose tackle, the Bears appear to be set at defensive tackle with Justin Jones, Andrew Billings and rookies Gervon Dexter Sr. and Zacch Pickens.

39 players who are locks for the Bears’ 53-man roster

As the final cuts deadline looms this Tuesday, here’s our prediction for the Bears players who are considered roster locks.

The Chicago Bears wrapped their preseason with a 24-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

But now is when the real work begins for the Bears, who have to trim their roster from 87 to 53 players by 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday, which means there are going to be some tough cuts.

After looking at some of the players likely to get the axe before Tuesday’s deadline, here are the 39 players who should be locks for the Bears’ roster:

What’s the latest with the Chicago Bears?

The Bears have started to trim their roster to 53 players, and that included a couple of surprise cuts on Sunday night — quarterback P.J. Walker and offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood.

Here’s a look at the most recent and relevant Bears stories for the morning of Aug. 28.

Bears roster cuts: Tracking the path to 53 players

With the roster deadline looming, we’re tracking the Bears’ cuts as they trim the roster to 53 players by Tuesday at 3 p.m. CT.

With the preseason in the books, the final round of roster cuts are upon us, where the Chicago Bears have to trim their roster from 87 to 53 players before 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday.

There are a handful of players who have made a case for a roster spot, but they won’t all make the cut. After forming the 53-man roster, Chicago will start putting together their practice squad, which should feature some of those names who just missed the cut.

With the Bears being first in waiver order, the initial 53-man roster won’t necessarily be the final roster heading into Chicago’s Week 1 game against the Green Bay Packers.

We’re tracking the Bears’ roster cuts as they happen before Tuesday’s deadline. Stay tuned to this page for updates.

Bears Twitter reacts to surprise cut of QB P.J. Walker

The Bears have released P.J. Walker, paving the way for rookie Tyson Bagent as QB2. Safe to say, the move didn’t come as a complete shock.

The Chicago Bears have started to make roster cuts ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, which includes the surprising release of quarterback P.J. Walker.

Walker, who signed a two-year deal this offseason, was expected to serve as Justin Fields’ backup this season. But Walker notably struggled during training camp and the preseason.

It certainly didn’t help that undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent shined with his opportunities, and he seems in line to serve as Fields’ backup heading into the season. Although, it’ll be interesting to see if Chicago elects to carry a third quarterback in Nathan Peterman or simply roll with Fields and Bagent.

As you can imagine, Bears fans had plenty to say about Walker’s release and what that means for Bagent as QB2. Safe to say, this move didn’t come as a complete shock. The writing has been on the wall for a couple of weeks.

Here’s how Bears Twitter reacted to the surprising release of Walker:

Predicting 34 Bears players who will be cut (or traded) ahead of Tuesday’s deadline

As the final cuts deadline looms this Tuesday, here’s our prediction for the Bears players who will be cut.

The Chicago Bears wrapped their preseason with a 24-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

But now is when the real work begins for the Bears, who have to trim their roster from 86 to 53 players by 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday, which means there are going to be some tough cuts.

After making our final 53-man roster projection, here’s our prediction for which 34 players will be cut (or traded) this week ahead of Tuesday’s deadline:

Bears’ 53-man roster projection ahead of Tuesday’s cuts

Following the final preseason game, we’re taking one last crack at predicting the Bears’ 53-man roster.

The Chicago Bears were defeated by the Buffalo Bills, 24-21, in their final preseason game, where some players made a strong push for roster spots ahead of the final round of cuts.

There were a number of standout performers during Saturday’s preseason finale, but there are also a number of tough cuts on the way as general manager Ryan Poles has to trim the roster from 87 to 53 players by Tuesday at 3 p.m. CT.

Following the third preseason game, here are my final predictions for the Bears’ 53-man roster:

Analyzing the Bears’ updated 53-man roster

We’re breaking down the Bears’ updated 53-man roster following cuts and waiver claims.

The Chicago Bears updated their 53-man roster, which featured some difficult cuts and some surprises to the roster.

After finalizing their initial roster, the Bears claimed six players off of waivers, including offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood and nose tackle Armon Watts. But with those roster additions, that meant parting ways with six players who made the initial cut. That included receiver Tajae Sharpe landing on injured reserve.

Bears announce flurry of roster moves on Wednesday

It was a busy day for the Bears on Wednesday as they made a slew of roster moves to amend their initial 53-man roster.

It was a busy day for the Chicago Bears on Wednesday as they made a slew of roster moves to amend their initial 53-man roster.

The Bears claimed a league-high six players, including former first-round offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood, who lasted just one year in Las Vegas before being a surprise cut. Another surprise cut was former Vikings defensive tackle Armon Watts, who comes to Chicago as an upgrade at the nose tackle position.

Chicago also claimed cornerback Josh Blackwell, defensive end Kingsley Jonathan, linebacker Sterling Weatherford and tight end Trevon Wesco.

But with those additions came corresponding roster moves.

The Bears waived rookie offensive lineman Zachary Thomas, defensive tackle Khyiris Tonga, linebacker Caleb Johnson and cornerback Duke Shelley. They also terminated the contract of linebacker Joe Thomas.

Chicago placed receiver Tajae Sharpe on injured reserve, which means he can return to the roster after missing the first four games of the regular season. It was a bit of surprise considering many expected N’Keal Harry, who had ankle surgery a few weeks ago, to land on IR. But perhaps the Bears expect him back sooner than anticipated.
