Former Chicago Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky has found a new home with the Buffalo Bills, where he’ll serve as the backup to Josh Allen.

Trubisky signed a one-year deal worth $2.5 million, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. But he’ll get a chance to work with Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, who could certainly help Trubisky turn his career around.

While Chicago ultimately wasted the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, they did get something in return for Trubisky’s departure. Although it’s not a lot considering the current state of things.

According to Over The Cap’s Nick Korte, the Bears are projected to receive a seventh-round compensatory pick in 2022 for Trubisky.

This should’ve been the second 2022 compensatory pick for Chicago. Former Bears defensive end Roy Robertson-Harris signed a three year-deal worth $24.4 million with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Chicago was projected to receive a fifth-round compensatory pick in 2022.

But with the Bears signing quarterback Andy Dalton, that effectively cancels out that compensatory pick. Which doesn’t help the Dalton situation.

Right now, where it stands, Chicago has a seventh-round compensatory pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Bears lose 2022 compensatory pick with Andy Dalton signing

The Bears earned a 2022 5th-round comp pick for Roy Robertson-Harris. But the signing of Andy Dalton effectively cancels that out.

Just when you thought things couldn’t get worse for the Chicago Bears then losing out on Russell Wilson and having to settle for Andy Dalton.

With former Bears defensive end Roy Robertson-Harris signing a three year-deal worth $24.4 million with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago was projected to receive a fifth-round compensatory pick in 2022. Which isn’t bad considering the Bears signed Robertson-Harris as an undrafted free agent and were to get a fifth-round pick back in return.

But with the Bears signing Dalton, that effectively cancels out Chicago’s compensatory pick, which is yet another blow this offseason.

The Bears earned two 2021 sixth-round compensatory picks last offseason for the Detroit Lions signing quarterback Chase Daniel and defensive tackle Nick Williams — picks 220 and 227 overall.

Chicago now has eight picks in the draft, starting with the 20th overall selection in Round 1. They also own their own draft picks in Rounds 2, 3, 5 and 6, as well as a seventh-round pick from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for tight end Adam Shaheen.

Chicago Bears awarded two compensatory draft picks

The Chicago Bears have received two compensatory draft picks for the 2021 NFL Draft. Both selections come in the sixth round — picks 220 and 227 overall.

The NFL awards 32 compensatory picks between Rounds 3-7 based on a net loss of free agents from the previous year. The compensation depends on a combination of a player’s annual compensation, postseason status and playing time.

Last season, Chicago lost linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski, defensive tackle Nick Williams, safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis and quarterback Chase Daniel to free agency. The Bears also gained edge rusher Robert Quinn.

They also own their own draft picks in Rounds 2, 3, 5 and 6, as well as a seventh-round pick from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for tight end Adam Shaheen. The Bears traded their fourth-round pick to the Minnesota Vikings in order to move up in last year’s draft and select outside linebacker Trevis Gipson in the fifth round. They also traded their seventh-round selection to the Las Vegas Raiders for kicker Eddy Pineiro.

Bears have compiled a handful of compensatory picks this free agency

The Bears have lost some key players to free agency. But it hasn’t been without its compensation – 4 compensatory picks, to be exact.

The Chicago Bears have lost some key members of their roster to free agency. But it hasn’t been without its compensation.

Compensatory draft picks, to be precise.

Following the first wave of the NFL’s free agency, the Bears have racked up four compensatory draft picks for 2021.

According to Over The Cap, the Bears currently are projected to receive four compensatory selections: Three sixth-rounders and one seventh-rounder.

Those come courtesy of new contracts for quarterback Chase Daniel, defensive lineman Nick Williams, safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and inside linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis.

Daniel continues to make the most of his journeyman backup quarterback role as he signed a three-year, $13 million deal. Williams’ impressive performance with the Bears last season earned him a two-year deal with the Lions worth $10 million.

Meanwhile in the NFC East, Clinton-Dix headed to Dallas on a one-year deal that’s set to give him $4 million and $2.5 million guaranteed. Pierre-Louis landed with the Redskins, where he’s set to make $3.45 million.

The Bears were previous projected to land a fifth-round compensatory pick for inside linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski, who agreed to terms with the Raiders. But the signing of All-Pro pass rusher Robert Quinn negated that compensatory selection.

The Bears earned a compensatory pick for 2020 — a fourth-rounder for safety Adrian Amos, who departed for the Packers last offseason. But Chicago traded that fourth-round pick for quarterback Nick Foles.

If these latest projections hold up, the Bears will get some valuable draft capital heading into 2021.
