Chicago Bears awarded two compensatory draft picks

The Bears have received two compensatory draft picks for the 2021 NFL Draft, both sixth round selections.

The Chicago Bears have received two compensatory draft picks for the 2021 NFL Draft. Both selections come in the sixth round — picks 220 and 227 overall.

The NFL awards 32 compensatory picks between Rounds 3-7 based on a net loss of free agents from the previous year. The compensation depends on a combination of a player’s annual compensation, postseason status and playing time.

Last season, Chicago lost linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski, defensive tackle Nick Williams, safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis and quarterback Chase Daniel to free agency. The Bears also gained edge rusher Robert Quinn.

Chicago now has eight picks in the draft, starting with the 20th overall selection in Round 1. They also own their own draft picks in Rounds 2, 3, 5 and 6, as well as a seventh-round pick from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for tight end Adam Shaheen. The Bears traded their fourth-round pick to the Minnesota Vikings in order to move up in last year’s draft and select outside linebacker Trevis Gipson in the fifth round. They also traded their seventh-round selection to the Las Vegas Raiders for kicker Eddy Pineiro.
