4-star quarterback Bear Bachmeier commits to Stanford, will wear No. 47

Bear Bachmeier, a four-star quarterback who committed to Stanford, is the third Bachmeier kid to choose an FBS football program.

Bear is choosing the Tree.

Class of 2025 star quarterback Bear Bachmeier, from Murrieta Valley (Calif.) High School, announced his commitment to Stanford on Monday. Ranked as the No. 11 quarterback on the 247Sports Composite, Bachmeier chose the Cardinal over 18 other schools that offered him, including Oregon, Arkansas and Michigan State, according to 247Sports and ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Bachmeier is listed on 247Sports at 6-foot-1.5 and 225 pounds. Over his high school career, which is two years plus one game freshman year in which he completed six of seven passes for 84 yards, Bachmeier has thrown for 5,550 yards at a 69% completion rate and 47 touchdowns to 12 interceptions.

Bachmeier will wear No. 47 at Stanford, according to Thamel. The quarterback said he started wearing that number at age 5, when he first played football, and has a fullback mentality when he runs.

“I wouldn’t want to get in front of me,” Bachmeier said to ESPN. “I think I play like Josh Allen. I’m a passer first but can tuck the ball and go get extra yards.”

At Stanford, he will play with his brother, current freshman wide receiver Tiger Bachmeier. Bear told ESPN that his brother’s presence was a “big influence” in his decision.

“Him being there and getting first-hand experience through him to what really goes on,” he said. “Also, it’s going to be cool as hell when I’m throwing touchdowns to him.”

The eldest brother, Hank Bachmeier, is also a collegiate quarterback. He recently transferred to Wake Forest.

With Bear’s commitment, Stanford now has four commits in the class of 2025. Bachmeier is the highest rated of the bunch.

Notre Dame football quarterback target commits to in-state program

Notre Dame still has a QB committed, but the backup plan has dwindled by one

Notre Dame football is currently fending off multiple programs to keep the commitment of its 2025 quarterback, Deuce Knight.

As alway with recruiting, teams have to still recruit other players at the position, in case things change, which they often do with teenagers. One of those targets that the Irish were keeping contact with was California’s [autotag]Bear Bachmeier[/autotag].

You can now take him off the list, as Bachmeier committed to Stanford on Monday morning. The 6-foot, 2-inch and 225-pound quarterback was offered a Notre Dame scholarship back in July of last year, but the lure of playing closer to home ultimately won out in his recruitment.

Notre Dame offers 2025 quarterback whose grandpa was a ‘die hard fan’

Will a family tie help the Irish?

There is something to be said about legacy offers to [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag], there’s also stock in offering someone whose family is full of Irish fans.

The latter is the case for 2025 California quarterback [autotag]Bear Bachmeier[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 2-inch and 225 pound signal caller was offered by the Irish staff on Tuesday.

The name may look familiar, and for a good reason. Hank, Bear’s brother, was a quarterback at Boise State and is currently at Louisiana Tech. Another brother, Tiger, signed with Stanford during the 2023 cycle. Bear, however is the most talented of the three, ranking as the 9th quarterback and 153rd overall prospect according to the 247Sports composite.

Bachmeier is one of just a few 2025 quarterbacks to get a Notre Dame offer. They currently do not have a commit at the position for that class.

Notre Dame football trending to add 4-star 2025 California quarterback

The Irish are looking to add another solid quarterback prospects

If there is one specific aspect of [autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag]’s recruiting that has seen a major uptick since [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] took over, it’s at quarterback.

The second-year head coach tried to work with what was on campus in 2022, but it clearly didn’t work. Freeman went to the portal to add [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag] while the ‘23 recruiting class added four-star [autotag]Kenny Minchey[/autotag]. He followed with another four-star, [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag], in the 2024 class. Now the focus has turned to the next class.

California’s [autotag]Bear Bachmeier[/autotag] is the staff’s top target, and it looks like his recruitment is going according to plan. Recently, Mike Singer of On3 logged a prediction for the Irish to land the 6-foot, 2-inch, 225-pound quarterback.

Bachmeier is ranked ninth among quarterbacks and 146th overall in the 2025 class on the 247Sports composite.

Friday Night Notes: 5-stars visiting Michigan, Colorado’s QB targets, plus more

The lead in the 2024 recruiting cycle changed hands again this week.

USA TODAY High School Sports‘ Friday Night Notes is a weekly high school recruiting recap that looks at the latest news from around the country—from the Class of 2023 to ’24 and beyond.

The lead in the 2024 recruiting cycle changed hands again this week. Michigan had been on top, but the recent arrival of QB1 Dylan Raiola, plus a few more three- and four-star commitments this past week, put Georgia at No. 1 nationally.

Going by the 247Sports composite rankings, the Bulldogs’ class of 2024 is now at 270.65 points, more than 20 points ahead of the second-ranked Wolverines (250.12). It will take a lot of work to recover that lead for Jim Harbaugh and the rest of his program. Adding a couple of blue-chip prospects would certainly make a difference, though.

On that score, help may soon be on the way.

According to Wolverines Wire Trent Knoop, Justin Scott will be visiting Ann Arbor on June 9. The composite rankings have Scott (6-foot-4, 310 pounds) as the No. 1 overall prospect in the state of Illinois, plus No. 3 at his position and No. 12 nationally in the class of 2024.

Scott has offers from 29 other programs and will also be visiting Georgia, Miami, and Ohio State next month. On3’s prediction model currently has Miami as the favorite to get his commitment at 69.8%, followed by Notre Dame at 20.2%, then Georgia at 6.3%. Michigan is at less than 1%.

Scott won’t be the only five-star recruit in Ann Arbor that weekend, though.

According to On3 Recruits, Saint Louis University (Mo.) five-star wide receiver Ryan Wingo will also be in town for an official visit on June 9. Wingo (6-foot-2, 205 pounds) is ranked second overall in Missouri, fifth among wide receivers and No. 21 nationally in the 2024 class.

Wingo also has offers from 41 other programs, though. The list of contenders that are considered warm to get his commitment include GeorgiaMichigan, Missouri, TexasAlabamaClemson, Miami, OregonTennessee and Texas A&M.
