Notre Dame stays hot, beats Virginia Tech

W. Again.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The No. 20/19 Notre Dame women’s basketball completed the four-game home-stand sweep on Thursday night, defeating (RV/RV) Virginia Tech 68-55 inside Purcell Pavilion. The Fighting Irish (18-4, 9-2) not only kept its undefeated home record intact (11-0), but also moved into a tie for third place with No. 12/17 Georgia Tech.

Defensively, it was one of the strongest outings for the Irish, as the Hokies’ (17-6, 7-3) 55 points are the fewest ND is allowed thus far in ACC play. Notre Dame knocking on NCAA Tournament door

Do you think they’ll end up getting in?

It’s been nothing short of incredible to see the turnaround Notre Dame has made on the basketball court under Mike Brey this season.  After a slow start and an embarrassing blowout loss at Boston College in early-December it was looking like another bleak winter for the men’s basketball team.

If you haven’t been paying attention to them because of that though, now would be a good time to get aboard.

Notre Dame sits at 15-7 overall and 8-3 in ACC play after their win at Miami earlier this week.  As a result the Irish appear to be knocking on the NCAA Tournament door.

Joe Lunardi at ESPN doesn’t have Notre Dame in his latest Bracketology but they’re included in the First Four Out category, up from last week when he had them in the Next Four Out.

Meanwhile, longtime college basketball expert Jon Rothstein, now of College Hoops Today included Notre Dame in his projected field of 68 on Friday morning.

Notre Dame is in the middle of perhaps the most difficult part of their ACC slate as they lost Monday night to Duke, beat Miami on Wednesday, and now travel to North Carolina State on Saturday night.  The Irish have just nine regular season games remaining counting Saturday, but none occur versus ranked opponents.

The biggest NBA All-Star snubs of 2021-22

Every year when the latest NBA All-Star crop is announced, there are a few snubs that leave fans, media and even players with their heads scratching.

A prime example just last year included Devin Booker, who ended up making it due as an injury replacement but wasn’t originally slated to receive the accolade. He’d go on to help lead the Phoenix Suns to the NBA Finals that same year.

Who are the biggest snubs this year?

With help from our own Global Rating stat, we break it down below.

Contract watch: Players who could become cap casualties

There are a handful of young players set to earn significant raises on their next contracts. We used ProFitX to view what these players should be earning based on their level of play, and evaluate if these players are in a position to earn such a raise with their current team.

However, some of these teams could have financial situations preventing them from being the ones that give their players such raises. Some teams are already set to have expensive teams deep in the luxury tax in the near future which could hinder their ability to add more long-term salary. At the same time, some players have very limited Bird rights with their current teams and could easily get properly paid elsewhere.

Here are several players with upcoming contract situations whose future with their current team could be impacted by salary cap complications.
