Former LSU outfielder Zeb Ruddell commits to another Louisiana team

The former No. 1 outfielder in the state is heading to Louisiana Tech after two seasons with the Tigers.

Former LSU baseball outfielder [autotag]Zeb Ruddell[/autotag] has found a new home, and he won’t have to go far.

Ruddell, who ranked as the No. 1 outfielder and No. 3 overall player in the state of Louisiana coming out of high school, is heading to Ruston as he announced his transfer to Louisiana Tech, which reached the NCAA tournament’s Fayetteville Regional this season.

After redshirting as a freshman in 2023, the Monroe native played for the Bethesda Big Train of the Cal Ripken Collegiate League last summer. He ultimately appeared in just 15 games as a redshirt freshman in 2024, batting .200 in 10 at-bats with a double, a home run, four RBI, three strikeouts and three walks.

Though it didn’t work out in Baton Rouge, Ruddell is a talented player who could still develop into a star for the Bulldogs.

Former LSU pitcher Cam Johnson announces transfer to SEC opponent

The top signee to reach campus from LSU’s 2023 class is heading to Oklahoma.

One of LSU’s most prized recruits from the 2023 class entered his name into the transfer portal after just one season on the bayou. He has now announced his transfer destination.

[autotag]Cam Johnson[/autotag] will be transferring to another SEC school as he will be transferring to play for the Oklahoma Sooners. Johnson appeared in 13 games for the Tigers last season and pitched a total of nine innings.

He finished with a 0-0 record and a 12.00 ERA. Johnson has electric stuff but in his appearances last season, he struggled with accuracy. He struck out 13 hitters but he walked 16.

The Sooners finished last season 40-21 and hosted the Norman Regional against Oral Roberts, UConn and Duke. The Sooners were bounced from their own tournament after fighting their way out of the losers bracket but coming up short in a winner-take-all game against UConn for a super regional spot.

The Sooners move from the Big 12 to the SEC with Texas for the 2025 season.

Former LSU pitcher Micah Bucknam reveals transfer destination

Micah Bucknam has announced that he is taking his talents to Texas as he is transferring to Dallas Baptist.

[autotag]Micah Bucknam[/autotag] has announced that he is taking his talents to Texas as he is transferring to Dallas Baptist University.

The Dallas Baptist Patriots finished last season with a 45-15 record. They were the champions of Conference USA and then played in the Tuscon Regional where they went 1-2 and were eliminated by Grand Canyon University.

Bucknam is a sophomore from Abbotsford, Canada, and has spent the last two seasons playing for LSU. He played in 16 games over two seasons. He finished with a 0-0 record and a 9.00 career ERA as he pitched a total of 16 innings.

Bucknam was drafted in the 16th round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays but he elected to go to college. He goes from a great team at LSU to a great team at Dallas Baptist. I hope he has a great season next year and ends up being an early-round draft pick.

LSU baseball adds another power hitter in the transfer portal

Eddie Yamin IV has played catcher before but he spent all of the 2024 season as a first baseman.

Recently, I mentioned how [autotag]Jared Jones[/autotag] was turning heads with his power during the MLB draft combine. As every day passes, it looks more likely that he will be drafted and won’t be coming back to LSU.

[autotag]Jay Johnson[/autotag] may have just found a guy who can fill that role at first base. [autotag]Eddie Yamin IV[/autotag] is a 6-foot-5 infielder/catcher from Dayton. He had a phenomenal year for the Dayton Flyers this season as he finished with a .342 batting average in 53 games played. He had 14 doubles, 13 homers, and 54 RBI and he had a .608 slugging percentage. He has played catcher before but he spent all of the 2024 season as a first baseman.

LSU has gone from a team that lost all of their catchers and their first baseman to a team that has two or three different options at each position. Johnson has been on fire in the portal and I don’t think he is stopping anytime soon.

Freshman LSU baseball pitcher enters the transfer portal

One of LSU’s top freshman arms has entered the transfer portal.

LSU’s transfer portal losses at pitcher continued on Wednesday as freshman right-hander [autotag]MJ Seo[/autotag] opted to enter the transfer portal. His decision to transfer was first reported by D1Baseball.

Seo, a native of Carrollton, Texas, was one of the top signees in LSU’s 2023 class. He ranked as the No. 160 overall player by Perfect Game as a two-way standout who also played shortstop.

He focused on pitching as a true freshman with the Tigers, though he ultimately did not appear in a game during the 2024 season after suffering an injury during fall ball. Seo has a promising arm with a fastball that can reach 96 MPH, and he’ll likely have quite a few options in the portal.

Seo becomes the seventh LSU pitcher to enter the transfer portal since the end of the 2024 season.

LSU baseball has landed a pair of top-10 transfers so far

Jay Johnson is putting together yet another impressive transfer class at LSU.

Making splashes in the transfer portal has never been a problem for coach [autotag]Jay Johnson[/autotag] at LSU.

The Tigers have brought in elite transfer classes each offseason since he’s been in Baton Rouge, and they’re off to quite an impressive start once again.

The 2024 season isn’t even complete yet and LSU has already secured commitments from two of the top 10 players in the transfer portal, according to On3: Indiana State designated hitter/catcher [autotag]Luis Hernandez[/autotag] and Mount St. Mary’s right-handed pitcher [autotag]Deven Sheerin[/autotag].

Hernandez comes in as one of the top sluggers in the country, and On3 ranks him No. 8 on the transfer list.

While LSU lost Neal in the transfer portal, they also added one of college baseball’s best hitters in Indiana State transfer Luis Hernandez. He spent three years at Indiana State, but 2024 was his best season yet. In 248 at-bats, Hernandez hit .359 with 23 homers and 76 RBI. He also had 14 doubles and finished with an impressive 1.114 OPS. This is a bat that will instantly insert into the middle of LSU’s lineup, and he has some positional versatility as well as he’s played first base and catcher in the past.

Meanwhile, Sheerin is a hard-throwing pitcher who impressed as a true freshman at the mid-major level, making himself one of the portal’s top arms as he ranks No. 9 overall.

Another LSU portal addition has made the list, this time coming on the mound in Mount St. Mary’s transfer Deven Sheerin. As a freshman in 2024, he showcased electric stuff on the mound led by a fastball that sits in the mid-to-upper 90s that has touched 97. Though he primarily pitched out of the bullpen this season, he could become a pivotal piece of LSU’s pitching staff whether it be through the bullpen or rotation. Either way, LSU is getting a tremendous talent that projects to get even better as he develops.

The portal was a necessity once again as LSU is set to lose quite a bit of production this offseason, particularly at pitcher with a number of players entering the transfer portal.

Johnson will hope these additions make up for those losses as the Tigers look to return to Omaha next season.

LSU baseball lands Auburn outfielder in the transfer portal

Another day, another tweet with a tiger emoji from LSU coach Jay Johnson.

Another day, another tweet with a tiger emoji from [autotag]Jay Johnson[/autotag]. As you all know, that is always good news. The good news is that LSU has landed another talented player out of the transfer portal.

LSU lost [autotag]Paxton Kling[/autotag] to the transfer portal earlier but it looks like the Tigers have filled that spot as LSU landed Auburn outfielder [autotag]Chris Stanfield[/autotag] out of the portal. Stanfield spent his last two seasons as a starter for the Auburn Tigers and he had two productive years.

As a freshman, he finished with a .280 batting average with eight doubles, two triples, three homers and 22 RBI. Last season as a sophomore he finished with a .276 batting average with eight doubles, one triple, four homers and 25 RBI.

Stanfield could be a starter on day one for LSU as he brings SEC experience and a plethora of talent to Baton Rouge. Johnson has been killing it in the portal.

LSU baseball starter enters the transfer portal

Starting catcher Brady Neal is moving on after two seasons with the Tigers.

The rush of LSU baseball players hitting the transfer portal continued on Monday as starting catcher [autotag]Brady Neal[/autotag] opted to move on after two seasons with the Tigers.

Neal was a 17th-round pick out of high school and ranked as the No. 29 player nationally and No. 2 catcher in the 2022 class. He appeared in 26 games as a true freshman, securing the starting catcher job early before he was sidelined for the season in April with an injury.

He struggled at the plate in 2023, and he improved in that regard as returned from injury in 2024. He finished the season batting .276 with nine home runs and 31 RBI.

While this is one of LSU’s most significant portal losses so far, it has options at the position. It signed JUCO transfer [autotag]Blaise Priester[/autotag] as well as Indiana State designated hitter [autotag]Luis Hernandez[/autotag], who can also play catcher.

LSU baseball lands Indiana State RHP transfer Luke Hayden

LSU has now landed two transfers from Indiana State this offseason.

The pipeline from Terre Haute, Indiana, to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is not done providing for [autotag]Jay Johnson[/autotag] and the LSU Tigers. LSU just landed another player from the Indiana State Sycamores thanks to the transfer portal.

[autotag]Luke Hayden[/autotag] is a 6-foot-1, 195-pound, right-handed pitcher from Bloomington, Indiana. He spent his first two collegiate seasons with the Indiana Hoosiers before transferring to Indiana State to play this Spring.

Hayden finished the season with a 7-2 record and a 3.81 ERA. He pitched a total of 78 innings and struck out 91 hitters while walking 47. He will join his former teammate [autotag]Luis Hernandez[/autotag] who transferred from Indiana State to Baton Rouge. Those two could form a battery in the same way they did for the Sycamores.

So far Johnson has done an incredible job landing some great players out of the portal. If he can get a guy like [autotag]Griffin Herring[/autotag] back as well next year could be special.

LSU baseball lands a commitment from coveted pitcher transfer

The Tigers added another impressive transfer portal arm on Friday.

The LSU baseball team has seen quite a few pitchers enter the transfer portal since the end of the 2024 season, but it has supplemented those losses well, adding Wofford’s [autotag]Zac Cowan[/autotag] and South Florida’s [autotag]Chandler Dorsey[/autotag].

The Tigers added another impressive arm to that group on Friday, landing a commitment from Mount St. Mary’s pitcher [autotag]Deven Sheerin[/autotag]. The 6-foot-5 right-handed freshman from Reading, Pennsylvania, made 18 appearances with two starts this past season, pitching 70 innings.

He finished with a 6-5 record and 4.76 ERA, striking out 109 batters while walking 32. Sheerin has an impressive arm with a fastball that has been clocked at 98 MPH.

Sheerin, a rising sophomore, won’t be draft-eligible until 2026, meaning the Tigers could have him for at least two years.
