Clemson starting linebacker Barrett Carter out against Georgia Tech

Barrett Carter wasn’t on the injury report, but the star linebacker is not dressed for this matchup against Georgia Tech.

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers have a big ACC matchup today against Georgia Tech, and from the look of it, they will be without one of their best players on the defensive side of the ball.

Clemson star linebacker Barrett Carter wasn’t on the team’s injury report, but Carter was seen in street clothes on the sideline at Memorial Stadium in Death Valley. Street clothes mean Carter will not play against the Yellow Jackets in this game.

This is a big loss for the Tigers’ defense, as Carter has been a standout alongside Jeremiah Trotter Jr. this season. The Tigers will also be without safety. Jalyn Phillips is also in street clothes.

Clemson statistical leaders through eight games

Who scares you most on the Tigers?

This hasn’t been the season Clemson or any outsiders envisioned. While not everyone was anticipating another national championship, it’s doubtful anyone expected that by this point, the Tigers wouldn’t even been receiving votes in polls. A bowl isn’t out of the realm of possibility, but if November is a very bad month for the Tigers, it’s probable they’ll be watching bowl season at home. Talk about dropping off.

All of that said, there still is some talent on this Tigers team, especially on defense. If anything, these players are remnants of a time in the recent past when the Tigers were feared. Many might have picked Notre Dame to lose Saturday’s game at the start of the season, but that no longer is a certainty. This is why you play the games though: You never know what can happen.

Here are the Tigers most likely to have an impact when they face the Irish:

Dabo Swinney defending his team lights a fire inside Barrett Carter

Barrett Carter wants Dabo Swinney to never have to do this again.

Clemson star linebacker Barrett Carter is not a fan of losing in anything he’s doing in life.

With the Tigers at 4-4 this season, their latest loss against NC State was as bad as they come and something head coach Dabo Swinney took full blame for. This did not sit well with Carter, but not for a reason, you’d think.

For Carter, Swinney standing up for his team like this is nice, but at the same time, hard for him. Carter has high standards, and Swinney having to do this for his team has lit a fire in him.

“With Coach Swinney doing that, it’s hard for me because I love Coach Swinney, and I appreciate him doing that,” Carter said. “But for me and the competitor that I am and never wanting to lose anything that I’m doing… it’s cool to see, but at the same time, it also kind of lights a fire inside me.”

“You don’t want your coach to have to stick up for you and take the blame for anything like that because I feel like it’s also on us players to go out there and execute whatever’s being called… it’s on us to line up and dominate the person in front of us, so it’s great that Coach Swinney does that, but I don’t want him to have to ever do that again.”

The frustration makes sense, as the Clemson defense has not been the issue this season. Even if they haven’t been the problem, Carter isn’t pointing fingers at one group or a single person. For Carter, it is on all the players to go out there and execute.

Like Swinney for the team, Carter has his head coach’s back.

Ranking Clemson FB players based on On3’s NIL evaluation

Eighteen Tigers have NIL evaluations in the six figures.

While Clemson hasn’t made the most noise in the name, image and likeness world, the school’s athletes have still taken advantage of the opportunity.

Clemson football players have been in the headlines recently because of their deals. Sophomore quarterback Cade Klubnik signed a deal with Beats by Dre in August. Last month, running back Will Shipley partnered with Chipotle and had the downtown Clemson Chipotle location briefly named “Shipotle.”

Last updated on Wednesday, On3’s NIL evaluation algorithm uses a player’s national licensing and sponsorship market, as well as roster value, to calculate an estimated money amount for that player. Some of the college football players with the top evaluations include Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, Texas’ Arch Manning and USC’s Caleb Williams.

That said, here are the top Clemson football players with the highest NIL evaluations based on On3’s algorithm:

Clemson star linebacker Barrett Carter shares how he almost quit football

Clemson’s Barrett Carter is a star at his position and a possible first-round pick… but he nearly quit football when moved to linebacker.

Clemson linebacker Barrett Carter is an All-American, a potential first-round pick, and a star on the Tigers’ defense.

While he is the top-tier player we all know him to be, did you know he was close to quitting football at one point because he was moved to linebacker? When the North Gwinnett product was told his sophomore season that he would be moved to linebacker, Carter considered quitting football.

“I had been a running back and receiver my whole life, so the day I got switched, I was so mad,” he said. “I was always bigger than everybody, so they just put me at running back and gave me the ball on every play.”

What made Carter change his mind? Well, the scholarship offers.

“The next day, I got my first offer,” Carter said, laughing. “Obviously, when you are in high school, you always dream about getting scholarships. So, I was like, ‘Maybe I will stick with it.’ I will say that is when it all really came together for me and that I could play linebacker.”

It is beyond a good thing that he stuck with it. Fast forward to the present, Carter is one of the best linebackers in the country and looks to be an impact player at the next level.

Carter has spent two seasons and five games with the Tigers, recording 129 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks. He has been an outstanding player for this Clemson team, and we are thrilled he opted to continue his football journey.

2024 NFL mock draft roundup: Eagles load up on elite defensive talent and more Bulldogs

With the college football season approaching the halfway point, we’re looking at the latest 2024 NFL mock draft roundups with the #Eagles loading up on defensive talent and more Georgia Bulldogs

The Eagles are 4-0 and atop the NFC East, but it’s never too early for a look ahead to the 2024 NFL draft.

Philadelphia has never drafted an off the ball linebacker in the first round, but recent mocks have the Eagles landing a star from Clemson.

Three Tigers named 2024 NFL Draft Top 32 college football prospects

Three Tigers are among the top 32 college football players to watch for the 2024 NFL Draft.

The 2023 college football season isn’t going as well for Clemson as many expected, but the Tigers remain a team with some of the most talented players in the country.

Year after year, we see former Tigers enter the NFL and start a new journey in the pros. This year will be no different, with Clemson expected to be one of the programs with the most players drafted in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Not only are there expectations for a big draft for the Tigers as far as total players go, there is also an expectation that multiple Tigers could be selected in the first round. According to Sports Illustrated’s latest piece naming the top 32 college football prospects to watch this season, three Tigers could have first-round aspirations.

Here is a look at each Tiger and what writer Luke Easterling had to say about them.

Duke’s Graham Barton set for tough test against Clemson’s front seven

Duke OT Graham Barton set for tough test against Clemson’s front seven in a Monday night draft spotlight

The Labor Day Weekend slate of college football games comes to an end tonight with an ACC showdown between Clemson and Duke.

A lot of eyes will be on Duke’s quarterback and how he fares against a Clemson defense that could have up to nine players selected in the 2024 NFL Draft

Duke’s Graham Barton will also have scouts flocking to Durham this fall. The Blue Devil left tackle will face a stern test right out of the gates against Clemson’s front seven, which is loaded with future players that will be playing on Sundays.

Barton started five games at center during his first year at Duke. Over the past two seasons, Barton has started 25 games at left tackle and gave up two sacks during 13 starts last season.

The versatile offensive lineman has excellent quickness and hits his marks out in space. He has quick feet and adequate functional strength.

The 30-game starter will be in a battle all night against a Clemson front seven that boasts edge rusher Xavier Thomas, defensive tackles Tyler Davis, Ruke Orhorhoro, Payton Page, and linebackers Barrett Carter and Jermiah Trotter Jr.

Thomas enters his sixth and final season at Clemson with 29 tackles for loss and 15 sacks to his name. In three games last season, Thomas recorded two sacks in just three games last season as he missed time with an ankle injury. Thomas has a quick first step and showcases excellent burst to close on the quarterback.

The duo of Davis and Orhorhoro both opted to return to school after initially accepting invites to the Senior Bowl.

Davis finished last season with 9.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. He explodes off the snap and collapses by driving offensive lineman back with his power. According to Pro Football Focus, Davis logged 36 pressures last season.

Over the past two seasons, Orhorhoro has recorded 16 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. The Clemson defensive lineman is a terror for offensive lineman with his first-step quickness. He has powerful hands and is strong at the point of attack.

Carter is a dynamic athlete with sideline-to-sideline range. He flies around the football field and has plus coverage skills, showcasing the ability to turn and run with tight ends and running backs. The Clemson linebacker finished last season with 73 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, two interceptions and eight pass deflections.

Trotter Jr., the son of long-time NFL linebacker, Jeremiah Trotter has been around the game for a long time and it shows with his instincts. He’s quick to decipher the action in front of him and explodes downhill to thwart the action in the hole. He’s always in the right place and when he arrives at the ball carrier he delivers a thud. The Clemson linebacker finished last season with 89 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, two interceptions and five pass deflections.

5 reasons Clemson gets a Labor Day win over Duke

Here are five reasons why the Tigers should handle business on the road against the Blue Devils.

We are just a day away from the start of the Clemson 2023 football season as the Tigers head to Durham to face a Duke Blue Devils team that has a great head coach in Mike Elko and a talented quarterback in Riley Leonard.

In years past, Duke would be of little worry for a program like Clemson, but this is not the same Blue Devils team we’ve seen in previous years. There is serious talent on this Duke roster, including future NFL talent.

Even so, this is a matchup that No.9 Clemson should win as the Tigers are currently two score favorites. Like Vegas, we, too, expect a win for the Tigers in this Labor Day ACC matchup.

Here are five reasons Clemson will walk away with a win over Duke in their season opener.
