Ravens get much-needed win, defeat Titans 24-16

A much needed win, the Baltimore Ravens were victorious in London, UK over the Tennessee Titans in Week 6.

The Baltimore Ravens were victorious in London, UK, over the Tennessee Titans in Week 6.

It was a much-needed win, and the Ravens should hang their hats on the offense’s play and quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Firstly, offensive coordinator Todd Monken deserves credit for making play-call adjustments. Monken opted for a total of 29 running plays and 30 passing plays.  It’s called balance, and this play style allows for the Ravens offense to settle in and get Jackson in rhythm.

Jackson played exceptionally well today, barring the interception throw to Sean Murphy-Bunting in the third quarter.

Earlier this week, we explained how tight-end Mark Andrews needed early involvement. His four catches for 69 yards yielded a 17.2 yard-per-catch average and forced Titans safety Kevin Byard to tally eight solo tackles today.

By tiring out the Titans’ defense with systemic quarterback runs and roll-out schemes, the Ravens offense dictated at the line of scrimmage, allowing just one sack. Now at 4-2, the Ravens can take this momentum and aim to stake as the power team in the AFC North.

Odds provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Wednesday at 12:04 p.m. ET. All games Sunday and ET unless noted.

Leg 1: Commanders at Falcons OVER 42 (-110) — 1 p.m.  (CBS)

Washington is coming off a bad 40-20 home loss on Thursday Night Football to the Chicago Bears as 6-point favorites. This means they get an extra 3 days of rest heading into this matchup against QB Desmond Ritter and the Atlanta Falcons, who won 21-19 as 2.5-point favorites against the Houston Texans on Sunday.

Playing from behind, Commanders QB Sam Howell was forced to throw 51 passes, completing 37 for 388 yards against a bad Bears secondary. With WR Terry McLaurin in the fold, Washington will again rely on the passing game in this matchup against a Falcons team which wants to run the ball.

Although Atlanta will want to run the ball with RBs Bijon Robinson and Tyler Allgeier, Ritter showed last week he can throw when needed, completing 28 of 37 passes for 329 yards and 1 TD. If he can continue to throw the ball like that, WR Drake London and TE Kyle Pitts could finally break out and join the party.

Washington 1st-round CB Emmanuel Forbes was benched late in the game against Chicago. He was torched by WR D.J. Moore, who finished with 230 yards and 3 TDs on 8 receptions. If Forbes can recover, this could limit the Falcons offense. Washington has been scoring of late, but it has also been giving up points in bunches, allowing 37 points per game in its last 3 outings.

The Over 42 is slightly too low in this game and I like the number up to 44.5.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Leg 2: Seahawks at Bengals OVER 45.5 (-105) — 1 p.m.  (CBS)

The Bengals finally had an offensive explosion against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 5. Returning home after scoring 34 points, QB Joe Burrow and WR Ja’Marr Chase finally seem to be on the same page and the shin injury suffered by Burrow in the preseason seems to be on the mend.

Chase, who is always open, had 3 TD catches and if he is matched against rookie CB Devon Witherspoon, who has struggled a bit, this could be another banner day for the Burrow-to-Chase connection.

The Bengals defense finally showed up against Arizona with 2 picks of QB Josh Dobbs. But Seattle QB Geno Smith will have the likes of WRs D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett to throw to. One of the best wide receiver duos in the NFL, Metcalf and Lockett will get downfield and make plays in this  game.

We took the Over of 44.5 in the Bengals vs. Cardinals game last week and it hit as the game finished 34-20. I am betting the Bengals will remain hot this week as they head into their bye week in Week 7. Seattle had its bye week in Week 5 and will come out refreshed and ready to flex.

In its past two road games, Seattle has averaged 30.5 points per game. The 45.5 is a solid number. But getting it at -105 value is even better. Take the OVER.

Leg 3: CHARGERS ML (+112) vs. Cowboys — Monday 8:15 p.m. (ESPN)

Dallas struggles against good teams. Although we do not know how good the Chargers are, We know QB Justin Herbert and WR Keenan Allen have a good connection. We also know WR Austin Ekeler is supposed to be back for the game. This will add another dimension to a Chargers offense which needs it with WR Mike Williams on IR.

QB Dak Prescott had another bad game in a big spot with 3 INTs in a 42-10 loss against the San Francisco 49ers as 3.5-point underdogs. The book is out on LB Micah Parsons. Run directly at him and it keeps him from being able to rush the QB. While the Chargers are not a running team, they will be able to use the short pass game to Ekeler to keep Parsons from getting to Herbert. This will keep the offense on the field and Dallas WRs CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallop and Brandin Cooks off the field against a weakened Chargers secondary.

Dallas finished with just 57 yards rushing against San Francisco. This was below their season average of 124.4 and Dallas must get back to the run game with RB Tony Pollard against a Los Angeles defense which allows 104.2 yards, good for 14th< in the NFL.

Los Angeles allows an NFL-worst 299.8 yards passing per game, but Dallas has only been able to average 203 yards a game. Where the Cowboys thrive, the Chargers are also strong. And where the Cowboys struggle, so do the Chargers. This will make for a weird game. Dallas should not be favored on the road, and I will take the value. Not just with the Chargers to cover the 2.5-point spread, but to win the game outright at +112.

Parlay payout: Bet $10 to profit $69.02 (payout = $79.02).

Leg 4-*: Ravens vs. Titans UNDER 41(-110) — 9:30 a.m. (NFL Network)

*-If you want to add a 4th play to this parlay.

Both games at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium went OVER in 2022. But in the 1st game this season, between the Jaguars and the Buffalo Bills, the Under 48.5 hit. With both the Ravens and Titans wanting to run the ball, this will be another Under in London.

The Titans will look to get RB Derrick Henry going as QB Ryan Tannehill has been less than stellar in recent games. In 5 games, Tannehill has thrown for just 1,052 yards with 2 TDs and 5 INTs. Henry has also started slowing with 328 yards and 2 TD on 86 carries.

Baltimore will also look to run the ball with RB Gus Edwards and QB Lamar Jackson. Edwards will be the main back with J.K. Dobbins out for the season with Justice Hill also getting work.

Hill, a 4th-round selection out of Oklahoma State in 2019, has 3 TDs and 115 yards on 29 carries. In the 17-10 loss Sunday, Hill had 7 carries for 32 yards and scored the only TD for the Ravens.

Both teams will look to milk the clock and shorten the game. This will lead to minimal scoring and an Under in London.

Parlay payout: Bet $10 to profit $140.85 (payout = $140.85).

Ravens TE Mark Andrews will be key vs. Titans in week 6

Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews is averaging 11 yards per catch so far in 2023.

Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews is averaging 11 yards per catch so far in 2023. Perhaps quarterback Lamar Jackson should continue throwing him the ball in week 6.

After a long flight to London, the Baltimore Ravens will prepare to match up with the Tennessee Titans in week 6. Both teams will be looking to shake off divisional losses and regain ground in the AFC.

The Titans rank a league 23rd in third-down conversions. This means the Ravens defense should be able to force punts and grant their offense a hefty amount of total plays for Jackson to “finish drives.”

Primarily, the Ravens should be looking to scheme Andrews in the intermediate pass game. Standing 6 feet five inches, the Titans do not have a sizable defender to stop him over the middle of the field.

If offensive coordinator Todd Monken attempts to get cute and drop quarterback Lamar Jackson back for five-step drops like last week, the Titans’ defensive line will wreak havoc. Getting Andrews involved should be a key game objective for Baltimore.

Catch a replay of the Baltimore Ravens vs. Tennessee Titans highlights from Sunday’s wild-card playoff matchup

The Baltimore Ravens handled their business, beating the Tennessee Titans 20-13 on wild-card weekend. If you didn’t see the action or just want to enjoy a quick rewatch of the playoff highlights during your lunch break, we’ve got you.

As expected, it was a physical game that included some chippiness and plenty of petty behavior to go around as these two squads don’t particularly like one another. And despite a slow start, Baltimore pulled off plenty of heroics on both offense and defense to secure a very big playoff win. The Ravens will advance to the divisional round to take on the Buffalo Bills next week for their shot at the AFC Championship Game.

Take a look at the highlights from the Ravens’ playoff win over the Titans:

Ravens vs. Titans wild-card playoffs: QB Lamar Jackson is our Player of the Game

With his first win in the playoffs, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is our Player of the Game against the Tennessee Titans

Let’s be fair, it took a full-team effort to lift the Baltimore Ravens over the Tennessee Titans in the wild-card playoffs, but it’s awfully hard to slight the lifeblood of this team, quarterback Lamar Jackson. With his first playoff win under his belt, Jackson is deserving of our Player of the Game award this week.

While it took the Ravens much of the first half to get into a rhythm offensively (you could even argue that they never truly found their stride), Jackson’s ability to conjure big plays out of the cold Nashville air ultimately turned the tide in this game. Though the Titans managed to keep Baltimore’s elite rushing attack in relative check through the afternoon, Jackson still found room to run, leading the charge with 136 yards on the ground and what was probably the most electric touchdown in these playoffs so far. His odds-defying 48-yard scoring scramble late in the second quarter reiterated just how lethal the young quarterback can be when plays break down and reveal even the slimmest open field.

Aside from an early interception, Jackson also remained relatively efficient through the air. He finished completing 17-of-24 (70.8%) passes for 179 passing yards, no touchdowns, and an interception. And even with those modest passing numbers, it still felt like the Ravens threw the ball more than they needed to at times.

Either way, Jackson finally has a planet-sized weight off his shoulders. He’s officially earned his first playoff victory, which hopefully vaults him into even more success and hopefully — as promised — a Super Bowl.

Among the other Ravens we considered for this honor were wide receiver Marquise Brown, outside linebacker Pernell McPhee, and really anyone on Baltimore’s defensive line who helped limit Titan’s running back Derrick Henry to an abysmal 40 rushing yards on 18 attempts. Brown had a top performance of his own, much to the delight of coaches and fans alike, finishing the day with over 100 yards receiving and a pair of solid rushing attempts. The Ravens will need more of that from him if they plan on continuing their playoff run.

Ravens vs. Titans: 7 keys to victory

The Baltimore Ravens need to do a few things better than they did in the regular season to beat the Titans and advance in the NFL playoffs

Well, here we are again. As if 2020 couldn’t have sparked enough deja-vu moments with endless Groundhog Day-like routines, we’re awarded with yet another one. The Baltimore Ravens will take on the Tennessee Titans in the playoffs.

But are things actually different this time around? Is 2021 a time for change and surprises we’re actually looking forward to?

Baltimore is arguably one of the hottest teams in the NFL right now. The Ravens are riding a five-game winning streak in which the offense has found its footing and the defense has started to get healthier. Baltimore appears to be on a resolute mission — not just an unexpected tear — to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.

Yet once again, the Titans stand in their way. Can the Ravens learn from last year’s mistakes and move past this game, earning their first playoff win in the Lamar Jackson era? Let’s take a look at our keys to making that result happen.

WATCH: Ravens S DeShon Elliott lays out Titans RB Derrick Henry with massive hit

Baltimore Ravens safety DeShon Elliott wasn’t going to get stiff-armed down the field by Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry.

The last time the Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans met, running back Derrick Henry asserted his will on Baltimore’s defense. He ran over and around the Ravens’ defense, stiff-arming his way to just under 200 yards on the ground in that game. This Week 11 matchup wasn’t going to be the same and safety DeShon Elliott made sure of it on one play in the third quarter.

Henry appeared to have a full head of steam as he galloped deep in Ravens territory. But the seemingly unstoppable force met an immovable object in Elliot, who stopped the Titans’ back in his tracks and actually folded him backward a bit. Not many NFL defenders, nor people on the street, would happily meet Henry head-on in the open field. But Elliott is a different breed of safety.

WATCH: Ravens LB Tyus Bowser picks off Titans QB Ryan Tannehill

Baltimore Ravens outside linebacker Tyus Bowser has a perfect interception of Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Tannehill in Week 11.

Things haven’t gone the Baltimore Ravens’ way so far against the Tennessee Titans, but a huge defensive play could see the tide begin to turn in their favor.

Leading 7-3 at the time, the Titans faced a 3rd-and-4 on their own 38-yard line. Ryan Tannehill looked for his trusty tight end Jonnu Smith over the middle, but a huge hit saw his pass go astray. Ravens linebacker Tyus Bowser intercepted the pass at the Titans 47 and returned it 25 yards to the 22.

The ensuing drive would fizzle out but Justin Tucker was able to notch a 27-yard field goal, cutting the deficit to 7-6.

Tennessee Titans scouting report: Scouting the Titans’ offense and defense for Week 11

A look at what the Baltimore Ravens can expect to see from the Tennessee Titans’ offense and defense in Week 11.

Week 11 is another crucial week for the Baltimore Ravens in their push for a playoff berth in 2020. The Ravens, sitting at 6-3 and having lost two of their last three games, play host to the Tennessee Titans. The Titans are also 6-3 and have dropped three of their last four games.

Mike Vrabel is in his third season as the Titans head coach, and the team has gone 9-7 in each of the last two seasons. This season, the Titans rank 16% in overall DVOA according to Football Outsiders. The Titans have looked good on offense, for the most part, this season behind quarterback Ryan Tannehill and running back Derrick Henry. But the team’s Achilles heel has been their defense, which has performed well below expectation in 2020. The Titans were expecting big things from free-agent acquisitions Vic Beasley and Jadeveon Clowney to beef up their pass rush. But this has not happened.

Let’s take a closer look at what the Ravens can expect to see from the Titans this week.
