Georgia star safety out for Ball State game with ankle injury

Star UGA football safety Javon Bullard ruled out for the Ball State game with an ankle injury

Star Georgia Bulldogs safety Javon Bullard has been ruled out for the Ball State game with an ankle injury. Bullard suffered the injury in the first quarter.

Bullard is a critical piece of the Georgia defense. He was named the defensive MVP of national championship and the College Football Playoff semifinal against Ohio State. Bullard is playing safety, which is his usual position, after playing the STAR position at a high level in 2022.

The rising star defensive back finished his sophomore season with two interceptions, 46 tackles, and 3.5 sacks.

The junior safety has recorded four total tackles in 2023. Bullard was healthy enough to jog to the locker room, so it is not expected to be a severe ankle injury. We while provide further updates on Bullard soon.

Bullard was seen wearing a walking boot in the second half.

Bullard and sophomore Malaki Starks are Georgia’s two starting safeties.

Social media reacts: Georgia football starts slow again

The Georgia Bulldogs are off to a slow start against a weak opponent for a second straight week

The Georgia Bulldogs are off to a slow start against a weak opponent for a second consecutive week. Georgia and Ball State ended the first quarter tied at 0-0.

The Bulldogs looked sharp on their opening drive before things fell apart. Quarterback Carson Beck fumbled on a third down scramble. Fortunately, running back Kendall Milton recovered Beck’s fumble, but Georgia was forced to attempt a 28-yard field goal.

Georgia freshman kicker Peyton Woodring missed the ensuing field goal attempt. Georgia was forced to punt on its second drive of the first half.

At this rate, Georgia is at risk of losing the No. 1 ranking. The Bulldogs have not gotten off to strong starts in two straight games. In fact, the Ball State game is Georgia’s first scoreless first quarter since the 2022 Auburn game.

Georgia return man Mekhi Mews has looked very good and scored a punt return for a touchdown early in the second quarter.

Here’s how Georgia social media reacted to the Bulldogs’ slow start:

Why Georgia scheduled Ball State instead of Oklahoma

Why did Georgia football schedule Ball State instead of Oklahoma?

The Georgia Bulldogs are not afraid to schedule any team in the country. Georgia has a challenging future schedule that features UCLA, Clemson, Louisville and Florida State.

Georgia’s 2023 schedule has been heavily criticized. The Bulldogs’ schedule is pretty easy, especially when you look at Georgia’s nonconference slate. But it is not Georgia’s fault the Dawgs have a weak nonconference schedule.

Georgia’s nonconference schedule features home games against UT Martin, Ball State and UAB. Georgia also has a nonconference road trip to rival Georgia Tech. However, Georgia was originally scheduled to play at Oklahoma instead of hosting Ball State.

So why did Georgia schedule Ball State instead of Oklahoma?

5 things to know about UGA’s opponent: Ball State

What should Georgia football fans know about Ball State ahead of the Dawgs’ Sept. 9 home game?

The Ball State Cardinals finished the 2022 college football season with a 5-7 record. The Cardinals are projected to finish fifth in the MAC West.

Ball State is 0-1 to begin 2023 after losing in Week 1 at the Kentucky Wildcats. Ball State has the talent to make things interesting for a quarter or two against Georgia.

Georgia football has never played against Ball State in its history. The Bulldogs are looking to win a 20th consecutive home game.

What should Georgia fans know about Ball State ahead of the Dawgs’ Sept. 9 home game?

Notre Dame women release 2023-24 nonconference schedule

Which game are you most looking forward to?

Barring any unforeseen changes, Notre Dame will enter the 2023-24 season in as good of shape as it could be. [autotag]Olivia Miles[/autotag] will be healthy, [autotag]Cassandre Prosper[/autotag] will be around for a full season, and [autotag]Hannah Hidalgo[/autotag] has arrived. That doesn’t even account for the fact that virtually the entire rest of the rotation from the Irish’s second straight Sweet 16 is returning. Irish fans should be feeling very confident.

Before tackling ACC play, the Irish will play a nonconference schedule. Actually, one of those games is scheduled for the middle of conference play, but that game as well as the season opener will serve as real measuring sticks for where they stand. That’s because those opponents are among the class of women’s basketball.

Based on this schedule, what kind of shape do you think the Irish will be in by the time their conference opponents start popping up? Whatever you think, here it is:

Notre Dame-Miami game scheduled for 2024 pushed to 2026

Apologies to those who love to recall Catholics vs. Convicts.

Those who followed Notre Dame in the late 1980s remember the games against Miami all too well, particularly Catholics vs. Convicts. However, the programs haven’t met since the Hurricanes crushed the Irish, 41-8, in 2017. The good news is the rivalry finally will be renewed later this decade. The bad news is it now will take a year later than originally scheduled as reported by the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson:

This is perfectly understandable from the Hurricanes’ perspective. They aren’t going to drop any games against in-state rivals, and they sure won’t give up a home against Ball State just so they can go to South Bend. You don’t want to put yourself at any kind of scheduling disadvantage.

As for the Irish, they now need to find another home opponent for 2024. The remaining ones from the ACC are Louisville, Florida State and Virginia, and the Irish also play Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Pittsburgh and Wake Forest come to Notre Dame Stadium this upcoming season, so you can cross them off the list. 2025 will bring visits from NC State and Syracuse.

Maybe Boston College fills the spot since the Irish already are scheduled to travel to them in 2025? Or another Power Five school that has a 2024 opening? Perhaps a Group of Five school that’s never been to South Bend will get its chance? The speculation will run wild until a new opponent can be determined.

Nebraska basketball adds graduate transfer

Nebraska basketball added a late transfer for the 2023-24 season on Sunday.

Nebraska basketball added a late transfer for the 2023-24 season on Sunday. Guard Jarron ‘Boogie’ Coleman announced he was joining the Huskers.

Coleman comes to Lincoln after having spent last season at Ball State. Before that, he spent three years in Muncie before transferring to Missouri for a season and then returning to Ball State.

The Indianapolis native was second-team All-MAC last season with 14.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. In his lone season at Missouri, he played in 31 games with 21 starts while averaging 8.6 points, 3.4 rounds, and 2.8 points per game.

The commitment takes the final scholarship available for the upcoming season. As a graduate transfer, Coleman will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Chiefs rookie Nic Jones intercepts Patrick Mahomes during Tuesday practice

Nic Jones got a taste of the spotlight at #Chiefs training camp after picking off Patrick Mahomes during seven-on-seven drills.

Rookie cornerback Nic Jones got his first taste of the spotlight at the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice session on Tuesday when he intercepted quarterback Patrick Mahomes during seven-on-seven drills.

Mahomes made a great effort to chase Jones to the boundary after the errant pass, but the rookie seemed to find an extra gear to accelerate to the edge of the field and may have found the endzone if the play hadn’t been whistled dead.

Jones will face an uphill battle to get consistent playing time in defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s system as a seventh-round pick, but plays like this should move the needle as the coaching staff assesses their options in the secondary.

His exceptional ball skills were a key factor in the Chiefs’ decision to draft him back in April, and with more repetitions in drills at training camp, Jones could turn a corner heading into the preseason as he looks to justify his spot on Kansas City’s 53-man roster.
