T.J. Watt named to the Big Ten All-Decade squad

The former Badger earns high honors from the Big Ten Network

Another former Badger is earning high honors from the Big Ten Network. Current Steeler and former Badger T.J. Watt has been named to the Big Ten All-Decade second team.

Watt had quite the journey to stardom in Madison. After entering Wisconsin as a TE, he suffered a knee injury in 2014. In 2015, before the year began, Watt made the switch to LB and the rest is history. During his only full year at LB in 2016, Watt recorded 11.5 sacks, 63 total tackles, and was named as a First-Team All-Big Ten selection.

Watt joins Melvin Gordon on the Big Ten Network All-Decade second team.

Wisconsin offers 2021 five-star guard Hunter Sallis

The Badgers are going after the five-star talent

The Badgers are still looking for a final piece in their class of 2021. The latest Wisconsin offer comes from current 2021 Badger commit Chucky Hepburn’s home in Nebraska. The Badgers extended an offer to 2021 five-star combo guard Hunter Sallis last night.

Sallis is the top player in Nebraska according to 247Sports. He currently holds offers from Gonzaga, Nebraska, Kansas, Louisville, UCLA and others. Hepburn has already been recruiting Sallis via Twitter. The two grew up together in Nebraska and have been competing for years on the hardwood.

Although Wisconsin basketball does not usually go after five-star prospects, the Badgers seem to have a legitimate shot at Sallis thanks to Hepburn’s connections.

After Jonathan Taylor was named one of the Big Ten Network’s all-decade running back’s this morning, awards began to come in on the defensive side of the football. Chris Borland was named one of the top three Big Ten linebackers of the decade by the Big Ten Network.

During a Wisconsin career that spanned from 2009-2013, Borland had 420 total tackles and 17 sacks. He was named the 2013 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. Devin Bush out of Michigan and Josey Jewell out of Iowa joined Borland on the all-decade squad. Borland played only one NFL season before retiring due to concerns over his cognitive health and long-term physical health.

The Ohio native is one of Wisconsin’s all-time greats on the defensive side of the ball, and the all-decade honor is well-deserved. Stay tuned to see which other Badgers make the Big Ten Network All-Decade team.

Earlier today, the Big Ten Network began to unveil their all-decade football squad. After the network named Frank Kaminsky the player of the decade on the hardwood, recognition began for Badgers on the gridiron. Jonathan Taylor was one of two running backs named to the all-decade squad alongside Penn State legend and current New York Giant Saquon Barkley.

Taylor’s position on the list needs little justification for the Wisconsin faithful who watched him tear up the Big Ten for three seasons. The two-time Doak Walker Award winner finished with 60 total touchdowns in three seasons, and averaged nearly seven yards per carry at Wisconsin. Taylor is hopefully the first of at least a few Badgers to earn all-decade honors for Wisconsin. Stay updated with BadgersWire as the Big Ten Network continues to unveil their all-decade football squad.

CBS: Wisconsin basketball one of the top programs ‘thriving without five-star talent’

The Badgers are one of the most successful teams in recent history, despite not having five-star talent

[lawrence-newsletter]It is well-known that the Wisconsin brand on both the hardwood and the gridiron has never been about recruiting blue-chip prospects. The Badgers tend to win with less, if you are going by recruiting rankings. Just recently, Wisconsin was named one of the best places for a three-star football recruit to be if they want to play at the next level. Now, CBS has named Wisconsin basketball one of the top programs that “thrives without five-star talent.”

The Badgers were one of seven programs listed in the article, along with Butler, Houston, Seton Hall, Gonzaga, Baylor, Cincinnati.

Here is what CBS had to say about Wisconsin’s success:

“Early on in the 2019-20 season, it looked as if the Greg Gard era was going awry. The Badgers were stumbling out of the gate after a first-round NCAA Tournament exit in 2019 and a 15-18 campaign in 2017-18. But Wisconsin saved its place on this list by winning eight straight games to end the 2019-20 season as Big Ten co-champions.

The Badgers have not signed a five-star prospect since Sam Dekker in the Class of 2012, but they proved with a strong close to last season that their annual collection of unheralded prospects can still compete in an increasingly competitive Big Ten.”

Once again, Wisconsin will look to create success without five-star talent as we look to the future. In 2020, the Badgers will not have a single five-star player on the roster, and currently they do not have a five-star commit in 2021. Despite that fact, preseason hopes are high for a Wisconsin team that returns fi
