Five stats that defined No. 6 Wisconsin’s upset loss to Maryland

The numbers that led to Maryland’s upset of Wisconsin

Maryland basketball picked up their first Big Ten win of the year in a major upset victory at the Kohl Center on Monday night. The 70-64 Terrapin triumph was the result of many factors, but it all started with something that can’t be defined on the stat sheet: effort.

With significantly more to play for, Maryland’s bench brought energy to a game being played without fans in attendance. Wisconsin came out flat, and despite holding a four-point halftime lead, could not finish the Terrapins off. Maryland caught absolute fire through the final 20 minutes, and it led to their first conference win of the year.

Wisconsin basketball’s matchup with UNI on Wednesday suddenly in jeopardy

The Panthers have some last-minute COVID-19 complications within the program

Wisconsin basketball’s only scheduled game of the week, a Wednesday night matchup with Northern Iowa at the Kohl Center, is now in doubt.

Northern Iowa was scheduled to meet Green Bay tomorrow morning, but due to COVID-19 complications within the Panthers program the game has been canceled.

With a scheduled game against the Badgers just five days away, and UNI having to cancel last-minute on the Phoenix, things are not looking good for Wednesday. While the UNI game is the only Wisconsin basketball game on the schedule, there is a possibility that UW could reschedule the Louisville game for some time this week.

While head coach Greg Gard said earlier this week that there are no concrete updates surrounding that game, the Big Ten/ACC challenge game is trying to be rescheduled by both schools.

Five takeaways from Wisconsin’s 74-64 opening win over Eastern Illinois

The Badgers open the season 1-0

The Badgers began the 2020-2021 campaign the same way they started last season: a win at home over Eastern Illinois. Both games were a tale of two halves, but the narrative was flipped.

Wednesday night was all Wisconsin through the first 20 minutes where the Badgers locked down defensively and built a 43-20 lead at the break. The Panthers stormed back with 47 second half points and ended up falling 77-67.

With freshman making their Wisconsin debuts, a Badger team that looked completely different from one half to the next, and ultimately a 1-0 start to the year, here are five takeaways from the opening win:
