Former Georgia Bulldog and NFL DB Bacarri Rambo has been arrested on a rape charge in Georgia.
A former All-American at the University of Georgia who went on to a career in the NFL, Bacarri Rambo, was arrested Monday on a rape charge in Athens, Ga.
Rambo, 29, was booked into the Athens-Clarke County Jail with no bond.
Rambo was an All-American safety at Georgia, where he started three of his four years. He was drafted in the sixth round by the Washington Redskins in 2013 and played with the Miami Dolphins before ending his NFL career with the Buffalo Bills in the 2017 preseason. He had three interceptions in his pro career.
Rambo’s attorney Kim Stephens told AJC.com the arrest stems from an incident between Rambo and a 21-year-old woman, who is a University of Georgia student, that occurred Friday night in Athens.
Onlineathens.com reported Athens-Clarke County Police responded to a rape call at 1:17 a.m Saturday. The incident took place at an apartment in downtown Athens. Rambo’s address is listed in that complex.
A male told police that the victim called him and told him she was raped and that he picked up the victim at the Georgia Heights complex “and that the guy who did it lives in Georgia Heights.” The victim reported that she knew the individual who committed the act and showed him an Instagram profile with Rambo’s name on it, according to a police investigative report. She was taken to the Family Protection Center
Rambo turned himself in to authorities, according to his lawyer.
“He cooperated with police when they came out,” Stephens said. “It’s been a fast turnaround. They didn’t wait for any scientific evidence to come back or anything before they took warrants.”
Rambo played for the Bulldogs from 2009-12. Rambo, an AP All-American in 2011, is tied for the program lead with 16 interceptions.
He was a graduate assistant coach with the UGA football program for the last two seasons. However, Georgia officials say Rambo has not been employed by the school since the Bulldogs played Baylor in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day.
He is currently enrolled as a student at UGA, where he is completing work toward a degree, according to Stephens.
