2023 NFL Mock Draft: Vikings Mock Draft Roundup 5.0

The fifth mock draft roundup is here and cornerbacks continue to be popular

Mock draft season is upon us and that means our mock draft roundup is back!

What we do every week is track the mainstream outlets mock drafts and aggregate how many times a player gets selected. Last season, we tallied up 173 mock drafts and only 10 of them were on offense. This season could end up being much of the same.

We will track them and try to determine trends and patterns, along with giving my own analysis on how they could fit with the Minnesota Vikings.

This week, we tracked 25 mock drafts that had 15 different players.

Mock Draft Roundup 4.0

CBS Sports has Vikings taking an edge rusher in round one

While the Vikings have Za’Darius Smith and Danielle Hunter, CBS Sports has them taking an edge rusher on day one of the NFL Draft.

The Minnesota Vikings have a lot of different avenues they could go down this offseason when it comes to their roster. There has been speculation that the Vikings could move on from Za’Darius Smith or Danielle Hunter this season.

If they do, the Vikings could be looking for an edge rusher. In Ryan Wilson’s latest mock draft from CBS Sports, he had the Vikings filling that need by taking LSU edge rusher BJ Ojulari.

“BJ Ojulari, whose brother played at Georgia and plays for the Giants, had a solid campaign for the Tigers, and he has many of the same explosive qualities that made his brother so hard to block for the Bulldogs. Ojulari could end up being better than Azeez, and that’s saying something.”

While there is still a lot to play out this offseason, adding Ojulari could make sense for the Vikings even if they don’t move on from Smith and Hunter. It would give the Vikings a good prospect and a young edge rusher to build on in the future.

Vikings select B.J. Ojulari in latest CBS Sports 2023 NFL mock draft

The LSU product has connections within the Vikings organization

The Minnesota Vikings’ defense is going to look a lot different next season but how they will look different is still up for debate. One area that they could stand to get better is at edge rusher, especially with the future of both Za’Darius Smith and Danielle Hunter in doubt.

CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson has that issue solved for the Vikings as he has them selecting LSU edge rusher B.J. Ojulari. Here is what Wilson had to say about the LSU product.

“Ojulari, whose brother played at Georgia and plays for the Giants, had a solid campaign for the Tigers, and he has many of the same explosive qualities that made his brother so hard to block for the Bulldogs. Ojulari could end up being better than Azeez, and that’s saying something.”

One thing that makes this selection interesting is the LSU connection within the Vikings organization. Ojulari would signify a full-on switch to the 3-4, as he doesn’t thrive with his hand in the ground.

The second 2023 NFL mock draft roundup includes a few new names

Mock Draft Roundup 1.0

Vikings select LSU EDGE B.J. Ojulari in latest 2023 NFL mock draft

A great pass rush is essential to the Vikings’ defense

As mock draft season has gotten underway, the Minnesota Vikings have been prioritized cornerbacks and wide receivers. One position that hasn’t been talked about enough is edge rusher.

The futures of both Za’Darius Smith and Danielle Hunter are in doubt long-term and D.J. Wonnum will be a free agent after 2023. Fortifying the position should be a focus sooner rather than later, especially with the injury history of both Smith and Hunter.

In his latest mock draft, SB Nation’s J.P. Acosta sent the Vikings LSU EDGE B.J. Ojulari. The brother of New York Giants EDGE Azeez Ojulari, B.J. was a start for the Tigers this past year.

A leader in the locker room as wearing the number 18 as LSU signifies, Ojulari is an athletic pass rusher that thrives in a standup role, which he would be asked to perform for the Vikings.

There are some size concerns, but the athleticism and skillset he possesses is superb and would be a great addition to the Vikings.

2023 NFL Mock Draft watch: Browns land B.J. Ojulari with 42nd pick

This would a tremendous pick for the Browns

Now that we have entered into the colder season, we have officially hit 2023 NFL Mock Draft season. The days of consistent first overall picks are over for the Browns, but the draft still has a certain energy in Cleveland. Even without a first round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, there is still plenty of draw to the event for the Cleveland Browns and their fans. In a recent mock draft done by Luke Easterling of Draft Wire, the Browns were mocked LSU pass rusher B.J. Ojulari with the 42nd overall pick.

This would be an absolute slam dunk for the Browns if they were able to land Ojulari at this stage of the draft. There are not two pass rushers in this class that I can confidently say are better than Ojulari, however, he remains a bit overlooked at this point in the pre-draft process.

Keep him a secret as he would be a tremendous fit in Cleveland.
